They came close to getting beat by a middle-of-the-pack SEC East team.
Still undefeated though. It'd be one thing to leave them at #3. It's a whole other to move them down.
I don't mind the decision. I understand it as the committee basically telling FSU that if they lose they will be jumped by the other one loss teams and possibly two loss teams (Bear Down). If FSU wins they are in.
Never realized there were people like me just as hardcore about football as Bonnaroo! I'm clearly going to be somewhat silent on the matter, I'm just happy we'd beat Vandy and are hopefully going bowling.

I think the SEC has a hand in scheduling the bowls this year, rather than just the bowls picking themselves. either way, the liberty and music city bowls should be chomping at the bit for an in-state team that travels well who is breaking the bowl drought. Hype for the post season seems through the roof, especially for a 6-6 team. we would move tickets. If we don't go bowling someone dun quacked up.

I sure hope so, I'd absolutely ride to Nashville for the game. This is my last year as an undergrad, so I want to go to at least one bowl game before I'm out of here.

I am gonna assume you didn't see this tweet from the Belk Bowl.

nope. shiiiit. I have a buddy wqith titans season tickets who gets 4 free music city bowl tix every year, and my dad worked for fed ex, so he can get liberty bowl tickets pretty easy. was hoping we'd get an in-state bowl game. charlotte may be out of the price range without family/friend ties to soften the blow to my wallet.
though WSMFP is doing their NYE show in charlotte, and I have a history bowl bowl games and panic. a couple years ago after the chik fil a blowout to VATech a friend and I accidentally snuck into the WSMFP show at Phillips arena after seeing the smoking patio and thinking it was a downtown bar.
Either someone hacked Nebraska's twitter or they hired Mike Reilly.
I just got a text alert from ESPN, so it seems like it happened. Fire a perennial 9 win coach and hire a guy who has a 93-80 record in 14 years? I don't know about that.
hmmm. interesting hire nebraska. by interesting i mean, wtf?
There are always haters for every hire, but they might have something with this one. I just don't know what he is bringing to the table for Nebraska.
I guess it just seems like a lateral move. trade out a guy who get 4 loss seasons for a guy who gets 4 loss seasons in his best year... I guess I just figured they'd be swinging bigger (and younger) and that Mike Riley would end up retiring at Oregon State. I wouldn't have put him on a long list of potential candidates.
edit: I can totally understand firing Pelini for not meeting expectations of Nebraska's 90's greatness...but if that is the case, I feel like they should have a home-run hire. I don't honestly know much about Riley other than he has a reputation for being nice...and Oregon State can sometimes be an ok team. Just seems underwhelming for Huskers fans.

Yeah, it was really strange for me to see the AD talk about "Mike Riley has a proven record of success" while he was 5-7 this season and 93-80 overall at Oregon St.
Press conference and everything. Sorry, LD, your Beavers will suck again!
It's sad to see him go, but at the same time it's a good time for a new start on things. The Beavers have had mediocre years for a few years now, and they hadn't been landing too many quality recruits the last few years. With the Pac-12 being so dominant right now, up and down the entire conference, at some point there needed to be a reset anyway.
So who's the better hire for their school, Mike Riley to Nebraska or Jim McElwain to Florida?
Florida by a mile.
Guess I need to do some reading up on him. I imagine if he was the coordinator at Bama he should still be familiar with the south recruiting wise (plus it's fucking Florida, there are great prospects within a stones throw). Still hoping Michigan can get a home run hire. *fingers crossed*

Yeah, he was the offensive coordinator for Alabama during two of their undefeated seasons. The most telling thing for me is Colorado State's record over his three years there:
2012: 4-8 2013: 8-6 (13 reg season games. The fuck?) 2014: 10-2

I agree but I think it's closer than you may think. Mike Riley has done a lot at the school with what is generally considered the worst facilities, lowest budget, and hardest places to recruit to in the conference (tied with WSU). I have a feeling that they are going to give Reily a lot of money to get a very good defensive coordinator to be almost a co-head coach. Also worth noting Reily has a pretty ridiculous number of active players in the NFL.

When Reily came on (the first time, in 1997), the Beavers went at least 25 years straight with losing records. I believe it was 28 seasons overall, before things finally turned around under him (and Dennis Erickson).
Pretty impressive considering the tiny budget and lack of resources. If the Beavers had the equivalent of the Nike money down in Eugene, they could easily be a top 25 contender year in year out.
