Sang defends something stupid he said by saying he heard it on sports talk radio. Everyone take a drink
Emoney butts in to something he has no idea about. 2 of those guys would be their starting safeties and they were both supposed to be really good players. rdk is just in denial.

I don't see how whether the thing you heard on sports talk radio is true or not is relevant to your amusing faith in and parroting of the things you hear on sports talk radio

He was downplaying it, so I said what I knew to be true. Those guys were highly rated players and were starters and UGA is definitely going to miss them. I only mentioned what I heard on sports talk radio because I live close enough to UGA where I hear lots of guys calling in talking about UGA and they were very excited about those players.

Not really in denial. Were they good players? Shaq Wiggins was. JHC and Tray Matthews had potential but were very inconsistent.
None were remotely close to superstar status and would all be battling for a starting spot this season with a new defensive coordinator.
I generally reserve the term superstar for players like A.J. Green, Sammy Watkins, etc. not 3 dime-a-dozen 4-5* DBs who will never live up to their HS recruiting starz potential.
I hate to feed Sang's crap, but this is starting to remind me of the end of Fulmer's tenure at UT. Long term coach with successes but failing to bring home the SEC title year after year resulting in an increasingly disgruntled fanbase. Off the field issues start to increase with an increase in losses following that. Richt better get a handle on things before they get out of hand.

It's not my crap, it's been this way at Uga for a long time. Richt is as far as I can tell, a great man but not a great coach. I think he's a lot like Tommy Bowden. Tommy could win but never won enough to get us any titles.I think what's going to get him in more trouble than the arrests. Richt never wins the big games (look up his record against ranked opponents). He may also be a little like Bobby Bowden, the way that he lost control of his program there at the end. I don't know as much about what happened at Tenn. It seemed to me like they were winning and I never understood why they got rid of Fulmer. They really went down hill after that happened.

Two losing seasons out of four were what finally did him in. This was after the team going 16 straight seasons without a losing record, so it was a big deal. In addition, he really was losing control of his team like you said Bobby Bowden did. Arrests used to be a rarity for the team, but they became more and more commonplace as Fulmer's tenure at Tennessee progressed. From a coaching perspective, he especially got criticism for not adapting to the changing face of football as well. Cutcliffe had left by that point, and this was John Chavis before he really took off again at LSU. I still hear people refer to his defense as "3rd and Chavis" in a mocking manner. Fulmer had been the coach for an extended period of time by that point and many just got the feeling that it was time for a change.
You also have to remember that, at the time UT hired him, Lane Kiffin was a powerhouse hire. He had been the OC during USC's national title runs in the early 00's. He had a season coaching in the NFL where his ousting was put more on Al Davis being a loon than a reflection of him as a coach. Plus, Nick Saban and Steve Spurrier had failed at the NFL but were still great college coaches. Given that, it really felt to most people like we had upgraded our head coach and were on our way back to where we belonged. Fast forward to the next year, Kiffin left at a really shitty time for us to hire a new head coach. We ended up with Dooley despite him having a losing record the previous season at La. Tech, and I think we all know how that ended up.
P.S. As I was looking stuff up to make sure I had all this right, I saw that Mike Hamilton was a graduate of Clemson. This earns a rousing "Fuck Clemson" from me. Hamilton sucked.

Yea, I guess I just wasn't paying that much attention to Tennessee at that time. I didn't realize how far they had dropped off while Fulmer was still there. I don't think it happens with Richt. They could lose a lot this year and he could be gone. People have already been calling for his head for years because of them not winning the big games. So I don't think they willgive him any time to have a prolonged drop off. I don't know who Mike Hamilton is, just looked him up.

Richt's contract runs through 2017 so unless things take a seriously dire turn I think he's there for at least a few more years. They are perennial contenders for the SEC and they get consistently good recruiting classes. They could've fired him after the 6-7 season but they didn't. I don't see any reason for UGA to give up on Richt unless the program goes into serious decline.

Oh yeah. Unless things are really bad this year, I don't think he'd get fired at the end of this season. Going back to Fulmer, he had the one losing season then two good ones then he got fired after a second losing season. I am just saying that Richt is starting to mirror the beginning of Fulmer's undoing to some extent.

They get great recruiting classes every year and according to some people, do nothing with them. They win 9-10 games a year, but after a while that's not good enough if you're not winning titles. I know a lot of the fanbase that I've heard talking about him have been wanting him gone for a while. Not sure that the administration feels the same way, but add in all these discipline problems and it could be a recipe for an early exit for him.
The UGA fanbase is full of idiots, like the ones you keep referring to, who want CMR fired for not winning the SEC championship every year, blame him for 18 year olds making dumb decisions and turn around and get upset when he suspends/dismisses said player. Has the team underachieved at times and came up short in some big games? Yes. Will firing a winning head coach solve that? No. He's brought 2 SEC championships to a team that hadn't won one in 2 decades before him and has had the team in BCS title contention. I'll take stability over firing one of the program's most successful head coaches and being miserable for the next 5-6+ years finding a suitable HC.
Richt enforces one of the more strict policies on drug testing/team rules in the NCAA which accounts for the high number of reported off the field issues and dismissals/suspensions. He doesn't make exceptions for promising/star players (Marshall, Mettenberger, Crowell, etc.) or sweep anything under the rug. Not too many coaches will keep multiple key players out of an important game because of team rule violations but the "undisciplined" mark richt will.
"Georgia has one of the strictest disciplinary policies in the SEC, which includes at least one game suspension on the first violation of team rules. Weight increases on the second and third offenses, which result in removal from the team. Other schools across the nation don’t reach suspension until their second offense. At Alabama and Florida, dismissals come after the fourth strike. At LSU there is former Tyrann Matheu being available for the biggest games despite multiple failed drug tests and head coach Les Miles putting running back Stephen Hill’s status up to a team vote following an arrest. Also, for as much as Spurrier has said about UGA’s discipline, his former quarterback Stephen Garcia was often suspended but never missed a game and was not removed from the Gamecocks until his sixth offense. It is clear that Richt disciplines his team and does it better than the rest. He disciplines, yet nurtures his players, and makes sure they find their way back to the field whether it be at Georgia or another school. Richt doesn’t restrict where his players can transfer as most coaches in the nation do, which explains his recent duals with former players Zach Mettenberger (LSU) and Nick Marshall (Auburn)."

Georgia hasn't won the SEC since the 2005 game though which is a long time for some people. Sure, they made the game in 2012 and came damn close to winning, but Tennessee was in the title game the season before Fulmer was fired and played LSU to the end, so don't think that Richt is bullet proof.
In other news, “I really don’t even want to say the names of the two guys who were there between Coach Fulmer and Coach Jones. They don’t deserve to have their names mentioned with Tennessee football." - Al Wilson “The biggest thing about Coach Jones is he actually does his job. Unlike that guy we call Derek Doolittle, who really did very little." - Troy Fleming "I want to see some guys with some fight and defend the program. That mentality came from the guy we had before Coach Jones. Derek Dooley was a loser. He’ll always be a loser and he rubbed off on the program and created a losing attitude.” - Corey Larkins www.saturdaydownsouth.com/tennessee-football/tennessee-players-criticism-derek-dooley/

BOLD PREDICTIONS FOR THE 2014-2015 SEASON
1. No conference will have more than 1 team in the playoff 2. Florida State will not make it thru the regular season undefeated 3. The Big 12 Champion will not make the playoff 4. The SEC will have 3 teams in the major bowls (1 in playoff, 2 in the others) 5. At least 4 coaches will be fired before the halfway point of the season, including 1 in a Power 5 conference.

Maybe I can make the trip to Jordan-Hare & mark it off my list of stadiums to visit.

Oh nice! That will be a fun series. You should definitely go see a game in Auburn. Great atmosphere and seeing the eagle fly is a really cool tradition. I'll probably use this as an excuse to cross Death Valley off my list.

But seriously, NO.
It'll be fun. Come on down to Auburn. We're nice. I promise. I think it is interesting though that you guys are our 2nd game announced for 2016 though. We play Arkansas State the week after.
