I didn't know the context at all, but I still voted. For the record, I refused to select the Confederate Army choice, since I'm a no good yankee, but I did choose the correct answer, "Rocky Top." My friend and I have talked about doing a heavy version of it as a band since we were knee deep in EA Sports College Football games in the 90's. Go Bucks. Suck it, haters.

My high school had the best!
Corn! Corn! for old Andy High, You bring the whiskey, I’ll bring the rye! Send those juniors out for gin, Don’t let a sober senior in! We stagger on but we never fall, We sober up on wood alcohol, When we’re through we’ll BURN THE SCHOOL! For the glory of AHS! We’re the Best!
I also appreciate how this discussion could have went a direction I intended, i.e. discussing how small town America is dying off and solutions some towns have found (or possibly found) to stave this off, but instead we end up with this. Great job, Inforoo.
Is the town doing anything to identify with either the song or the school other than the name change? If not, I see no economic impact. Santa Claus, IN isn't a thriving area because of their name.
It's tied to a developer who plans to come in and build tourist-y type stuff. They felt the name change would help boost the town's profile and it would fit in with the theme they had planned.
It's hail to the victors in a landslide in my opinion. Rocky top isn't bad unless you've been to Neyland as an opposing fan. They played it a minimum of 30 times both games I went to, and they lost both games.

The video I almost posted about it leads with that it is probably simultaneously the most loved and hated fight song in college football depending on whether where your allegiance lies. A fond childhood memory is seeing footage from after the 1986 Sugar Bowl where Vinny Testaverde goes off about it during a post-game interview. Personally, I love how the scoreboard matters not when it comes to it being played and/or the intensity of how loud the crowd will sing along.

I respect the passion of vols fans for sure. Being to a few games myself it doesn't matter what their record is they are always packing out the stadium and having a good time. I have nothing bad to say about either experience I've had going to their stadium as an opposing fan. UK and FSU fans on the other hand are a different story. I could care less to see Lexington and Tallahassee burn to the ground.

Hey don't blame me. I'm the one who moved everyone's fight song stuff into its own thread.
