Just when I think the Grammys might be becoming somewhat relevant again after wins by Arcade Fire & Daft Punk, they go and throw this craptacular list at us. I seriously thought Shaggy had retired in 2001 to live out his days having sex on bathroom floors.
Jack White mops the floor with The Black Keys, but there's a Schadenfreude-y part of me that wants to see them win just so we can get another entertainingly angry tirade out of him.
I figured out what was missing last night from the Grammy's. What made me feel a little sad (or a lot!) Pops & Delicious Meatball Sub, I need your live blogging in my life. Seriously. Find a way to make that happen from here on out. OK?
Kanye going for the mic when Beck won album of the year was the best.
turns out he was serious too
I love Kanye as much as anybody, and its not like this is terribly surprising. But wtf, man. Let it go.
It would have been an amazing night for him if he had just played the Beck thing off. Performed two well received songs, made up with Taylor Swift, seemed to playfully reference his VMA mistake from years ago. That'd be his best night in the public eye in a while, maybe ever.
But no, he has to stand up for whatever he thinks is right. And that's respectable. But damn, I'm sure Beyonce can handle herself. For better or worse, Kanye is the most consistently frustrating artist working.

It was clearly a joke, it's not like people were holding him back from hopping on stage. After the show if he wants to say the wrong album won, so what? They're all adults and they're all professionals.

We were talking about this last night, we both definitely missed it.

Appearing on the E! network's aftershow, West said, "I just know that the Grammys, if they want real artists to keep coming back, they need to stop playing with us. We ain't gonna play with them no more. And Beck needs to respect artistry and he should've given his award to Beyoncé.
"Because when you keep on diminishing art and not respecting the craft and smacking people in their face after they deliver monumental feats of music, you're disrespectful to inspiration," West continued. "And we as musicians have to inspire people who go to work every day, and they listen to that Beyoncé album and they feel like it takes them to another place."

It was a joke. He smiled and laughed while doing it. He was being self-deprecating (which is refreshing coming from Kanye). Jay-z and the rest of the audience laughed too. Beck didn't seem bothered.

It is possible for a human being to have the complex emotions necessary to both honestly think the wrong person won, and also make a joke about it. Everyone found it funny, including Beck.
