I can guarantee that I will be at this set. Don't think I will be catching slayer, so have to get my metal fix in for the weekend by catching them and pallbearer.
So I'm not super familiar with BTBAM, in cases like this I like to look at recent setlists and makeup a playlist of likely songs they will play. Seems like they are pretty consistent in their shows, and if they play what they've been playing this set is going to be awesome.

I've been curious about when they are going to start working in tracks from the new album into the setlist since it's coming out next month. That one cover they played recently would be great though.
I like the guitars and drums. I could never get into the growling vocals. I could only take so much Pantera in the 90s. The singer does look a little like the guy in Psych in this video though.

I'm always surprised by the people who love the technical prowess of progressive metal but can't stand the growling. I used to read that complaint about Opeth all the time. Not judging at all, just unusual to me, coming from a metal background the growling is my favorite part of the vocals. Shit gets me so pumped up.

It's a pretty common complaint amongst people, so it stopped surprising me a while back. If it means anything, Selkies is off one of their first albums, and their sound has changed significantly since them. Much more prog. Also, Thomas can sing properly when he wants to. His solo stuff has very minimal growling if any.

I caught Opeth just once, on the Watershed tour. Really outstanding live show. Akerfeldt was really charming live.

The guy does know how to tell a story. I saw them at the Tennessee (the larger theater) in Knoxville with Mastodon. He told a story about how they had played in Knoxville a few years earlier at the Bijou (the smaller theater). He said they got excited because Heart was playing at the Tennessee that night. Knowing that the same company (AC) books both venues, they sent a message asking if the two bands could meet up after the show because they had been fans for years. Heart said no which he said was okay because that's the reaction had been getting from the ladies for years so he was used to it.

Since I'm new to the club I don't know all the rules, but if you willingly skip Slayer I'm not sure if you can be in the club. Will have to confer with President Guy Passed out in the Background to confirm.
Would really love to catch this set, but Royal Blood. I saw BTBAM when I was 17 so I guess that makes up for this. At least they'll be back in Nashville in August.
