It's so damn good. Can't wait to watch his transformation. The opening scene alone was incredible and I really hope we got more "present day" scenes. Sort of like a Breaking Bad thing were they had the flash forwards and then regular time and then they both converged at the climax of the season. Maybe something about Saul getting found out while in Omaha?
Love the dark humor as well. Go from laughing my ass off one second to cringing the next (desert scene, opening court room scene, etc).

You're right about that opening scene. As soon as it started, you knew the show was going to be quality. It seems like they are aiming for a little more comic relief in this show, but they don't over do it.

Saul was pure comic relief in breaking bad. I can think of few scenes he was in that were completely serious.
I knew this was going to be more comedic because of that fact, then BB was.
I like the show so far. I hesitate to watch more though. I waited until BB ended, then did a marathon watch of the series from beginning to end over a weeks time. Saul could be better that way as well, but I'll keep it on the dvr for slow tv nights.

I've only seen the first episode, but I thought it was great. I loved that there were no words spoken for the first several minutes. Great acting. I'll be watching for sure.

So far so good & better then expected. I'm looking forward to the next one. It definitely has the Vince Gilligan stamp on it. I'm a little concerned about the cashing in on BB nostalgia esp with the first two episodes bringing back 2 amazing characters from that series. I felt like having him run into Tuco felt kinda contrived but it was still entertaining as hell. That episode would have worked just as well with any other bad ass psycho gangster but fans of BB know how volatile and unpredictable Tuco is so it was still allot fun to watch.

THIS!! I'm really hoping they might go that route.

I think the Tuco thing was more of a "let's get this out of the way" as opposed to cashing in. They went ahead and acknowledged the obvious since everyone was expecting it and then removed him as a main character (I assume). Instead they'll focus on Taco or w/e his name is. I doubt we'll get much more obvious BrBa acknowledgement for some time. Maybe a cameo further down the road from Badger or Pete. And of course Mike. But that's about it.
I will say that I'd love for a later season to cover at least SOME of BrBa though. It'd be cool to get Saul's view of everything.
They don't have to rush into anything. But I def want Gus down the line. They never really fully explained his origins on BB. But I'd be perfectly fine if they didn't pull on that thread for a few years.
I read somewhere that it takes place six years before Saul's original introduction in season 2 of Breaking Bad. I wonder if they are planning on having six seasons of this show. I also remember reading awhile ago that Cranston and Paul would at some point or another make appearances but I am guessing that won't be until the end of the series.
Also my thoughts on the pilot were that this is definitely going to be another superb quality show from the Gillster.
Just finished the first two episodes and I love it. It definitely is standing on its own and even though it's Breaking Bad-esque, I'm not sitting there thinking "this is a BB spin off." I really hope they keep streaming it on AMC & don't make full episodes require a log in, like TWD..

I just wanted to add nothing new to the conversation and agree that I like the show, and that it's similar in tone to BB but will definitely be it's own show. And if the first two episodes are any indication, it's going to be a GOOD show.

I didn't watch any of the trailors, honestly I didn't because I thought the show was sure to be a dud like most spin-offs are. SO I was really happy and surprised to see Mike & Tuco in the first two episodes. Someone told me Mike was in the trailer for the show, but was it known Tuco was going to be too or was that a surprise?

This would be a very Vince Gilligan thing to do. Didn't they go into BB knowing that they wanted to tell the story in 5 seasons or something? I know I read or watched something with him talking about how he always knew where he wanted the story to end up and he always knew it would take right around 5 years for it to play out. It was when he was answering a question about why he was ending BB at the height of its popularity.
I guess what I'm saying is that Gilligan could easily have a preset timeline of the story in his head, even if he doesn't know exactly what is going to happen.

Can't wait for episode 3, first 2 episodes were quality. I loved the opening scene of the series. That scene made me want them to do a BB sequel, after they finish Better Call Saul, that is Jesse's story after the events of BB. They could call it "Yeah, Bitch!" LOL.
For anyone who's interested. Some quality insight here. Odenkirk said this was the best interview he's done so far in regards to this show.
I love the grantland podcasts. I listen to almost all of them every week. Andy Greenwald is the best. He used to write for SPIN and has a weekly podcast called Hollywood Prospectus that is always really interesting and entertaining to hear.
Finally got caught up on this last night. Definitely digging the vibe, which I feel is pretty similar to BB season 1 in terms of tone. Very interested to see where it goes from here.
