Tipitina's and Galactic throw good parties together; the new-school funk band's late-night gigs during Jazz Fest and Mardi Gras time at the storied Uptown club have been the stuff of legend for years.
Now they're taking that mutual mojo to the next level, with a two-day festival, co-presented by the band and the bar, set for Sept. 26-27 at the South Shore Harbor marina on Lake Pontchartrain.
The lineup for The Landing Fest announced thus far includes, of course, Galactic, as well as Grace Potter, Cake, Dr. Dog, Trampled by Turtles, St. Paul and the Broken Bones, the North Mississippi Allstars and Anders Osborne present N.M.O., the Soul Rebels and Rayland Baxter, with, press materials promise, more to come.
Three-day passes (the third day is a kickoff party at Tip's on Sept. 25) at pre-sale prices are $110 general admission, $225 VIP; two-day passes are $85 and $190. The pre-sale starts Friday, June 26 at noon CT, via thelandingfestival.com. Early-bird tickets, according to the site, go on sale Monday, July 6.

I'm not really wild about it, but I haven't ever seen Grace Potter, and she had a lot of fans. Maybe that would be good? And I like the idea of Anders with NMA doing NMO. That could get down and dirty. Galactic is usually great (loved both Waka sets with and without Macy and Hangout's). I listened to Trampled at my tent at Bonnaroo, and they were pretty decent.
I'm going to pass on the presale and find out what else you get for the money for VIP as that is fairly expensive unless food and beverages are included. It's not unaffordable, but I'll need more information.
I emailed them to ask what perks they have. I'll post if I get an answer.
Galactic is always good, and I love Grace Potter, Cake, and Trampled by Turtles. Haven't been following Dr. Dog, but I used to be into them. There's 2 bands on the lineup so far that I don't know, and I really like all the others

I completely agree with you on needing more for the VIP.
Presale with fees is like $116 and even that seems a little high tbh. I don't think this is gonna sell a ton of tix so I'm gonna hold out and wait to get some for cheap last minute or just not go.
Like a ten min drive from my gfs house though so that is appealing. We'll see as we go.
Collaborations are with JJ Grey, Macy Gray, Mavis Staples, David Shaw and Maggy Koerner, Charm Taylor, Ryan Montbleu and Brushy One String. I haven't listened to it yet.

I really want to see Eagles of Death Metal and Cake, but I just don't know if I justify buying a ticket to this.
Yeah. I ran into Sarge at Eagles of Death Metal. It was pretty cool though it wasn't high end or anything. It was out at the Lakefront Airport near the old Marina sort of around the site where Tipitinas Foundation signed the lease to construct the amphitheater (funny I never knew that fucking word had a 2nd "H" in it).
It was real chill, and we only went on Saturday. Beer was NOLA Blonde for $4 or $5 which while high compared to retail, was okay. They had some other, typical swill and a bar as well. There were two stages sort of on opposite ends, and I don't recall there being simultaneous shows. My boss called and I had to get to a corner for about an hour, so I missed some of the stuff. But we caught Dumpstaphunk, Eagles of Death Metal, Cake and Galactic. Obviously Galactic was the best show in my opinion. Cake was okay but the singer was a little on the douch*y side. Eagles were pretty funny and didn't take themselves too seriously which was nice. There were a couple of food trucks, but the lines got long in the evening. I think it was like $30 or $40 for the day which wasn't bad. Sunday ended up raining, and I didn't go. But it was still a kick overall - sort of an afternoon and evening type show. No real checks other than for your wristband, and it was typical NOLA hand's off leo policy. I'd go again for sure if there is a decent lineup.
Speaking of New Orleans festivals, French Quarter Fest, probably the largest festival on the planet, released their day-by-day today. I won't be making it since we'll be at Euphoria. I think it's only local stuff, but...
