Who needs BUKU tickets when you can hear it clear as a bell in your backyard? Saturday night was bumping apparently.
Haha. Yeah. It was pretty fun this year again. I know you had issues with the synth-pop heavy lineup. But there was still plenty of rap and EDM and at least a little rock.
Final thoughts would be I only saw 1 fight, and it was two guys scrapping on the ground just wrestling. Cop was there immediately, and broke it up and let them go. I walked past and "C'mon Man'd" the participant. I trolled plenty of people in foreign NFL jerseys but it was all good natured. A couple of other people told me they saw a minor fight or two, but for the most part everyone seemed behaved. One guy got kicked off the VIP boat, and then I did see the stretcher roll around a few times, but I never saw anyone getting wheeled out (sure it happened though). Weather was cooperative, VIP was great again. At some points for the headliner sets (e.g. Future, Pretty Lights, Cudi, etc.) the boat bars got a little packed. I'm not complaining too much on that though since you could get a glass of whiskey on ice (or a triple) to sip on for a while.
Don't know if I should do a Top 10 based on memory alone, but I'd give it:
1) Pretty Lights Live @ Buku 2) Griz at Buku 3) Griz Afterparty Superjam 4) Pretty Lights alternative analogy set 5) Keno/Juvenile/Mystikal 6) Datsik 7) Break Science 8) Bauuer 9) Future 10) Anderson.Paak & Free Nationals
Glad to see somebody enjoyed the Pretty Lights Analogy afterparty set. I have seen A LOT of negative reviews saying it seemed like the band had no idea what was going on. Not to mention I saw several reviews stating they thought D was super messed up again. That "secret set" right outside his ex's place was SAVAGE though!

What happened? This needs to be explained to me
The after-party set was pretty experimental. I'll have to see some of it again, but I wasn't hating on it. Anyway, the secret set was between the after-party and festival performance. It was a few blocks away underneath the Pontchartrain Expressway. Apparently Pretty Lights snapped about it or something. Only Brent from the people we were with knew about it and went. He also went to the Vibe Street crawfish boil Saturday AM at Hi-Ho. There is some footage out there from the secret show that he showed me, but I didn't know if that was up on YouTube, a Pretty Lights page or if it was his own footage. I'm sorry to have missed that.

LMAO. It was strange. It was one long improvisational set. It morphed in and out of the same basic beat for a while, no real phrasing or resolution. The Preservation Hall horns came out around 4:30ish and, other than a trombone feature at the end, mostly played whole notes. Everyone was just kind of winging it. Around 5:30-6, Derek rambled about creating music there on the spot, said he was going to go smoke some cigarettes, and peaced out. I had fun, but there's bound to be mixed reviews.

Derek's ex tweeted a picture showing that the secret set was literally right behind her place. Just google Pretty Lights ex girlfriend and her twitter will pop up. She was super salty about it.
Back alley was insane this year! Tokimonsta, Jai Wolf, Julio Bashmore (!!!), and SNBRN (!!!!!!) were all totally killer and definitely in my top 10 of the weekend. Ballroom production was awesome, felt like being outside and the float den sounded better than ever. Mija x AnnaLunoe kicked off the weekend hard for me, best mija set ive seen. Friday just kept rolling from there into CHVRCHES with so much space to dance all around. after that i spent two hours at the back alley, Tokimonsta was dropping heater after heater and brought out Anderson Paak for two songs which rocked, and then jai wolf cooled it all off. Cudi was disappointing compared to 2013, but hard not to have fun at and got to watch the end from the net. I headed to back alley before GRiZ where thugfucker and art department seemed stuck in some technical mix up, so we just headed to the float den, and GRiZ slayed, loved the bernie ending. walking out that night waiting for my krewe, i saw GRiZ and his crew hustling down the sidewalk, dapped him off and told him just how awesome his show was. cool dude, stopped to pay attention to me. Saturday was even better, opened with NGHTMRE and What So Not and then held a solid spot for future, which was absolutely nuts. after future, caught some of that crazy fiddle show in the big tent on the way to back alley where julio bashmore and snbrn both lit up. sounded like live music. after that, headed to powerplant where i was able to hop into VIP and chill out til pretty lights, which was my favorite crowd of the weekend. from there we hit cashmere cat/trippy turtle who were going off and finished with nero and claptone and then nero again. best buku ive been to, and the majority of people i talked to in crowds said it was their first. i can see this being the break out year.
Sorry we didn't get to grab a drink salads. Consensus between the brood was Pretty Lights Buku, GRiZ Buku, GRiZ Superjam (Collin said best of weekend and PL best power plant ever), Mystikal/Juvenile//Keno and G Jones. It's all good. We agree on most.
my top 10 of the weekend is 1 Future 2 GRiZ 3 Pretty Lights 4 Mija b2b Anna Lunoe 5 SNBRN 6 Tokimonsta 7 Kid Cudi 8 Julio Bashmore 9 CHVRCHES 10 Jai Wolf
shouts out to Nero for the show that surprised me the most, alot more live aspects than I thought. glad i skipped out on Ferg (seen him before). and baauer late night was heat but we were so slumped we left right as he finished before Mija came on
