I am super pumped about this fest. I cant believed ive traveled to ROO for like 5 years and ive skipped this gem for so long.
Especially since you live in NOLA.
Yea with the job I have I cant take off for everything.....but when you have a good year they kind have to let you do what you want. I dont take off for Major basketball/football or eve Mardi Gras so I just horde all my time for festivals lol
Schedule is coming out next week or the week after
Hopefully Goldenvoice won't denegrate the lineup as much as they did Hangout. I have my fingers crossed since WCP and Huka are still involved. I'm just asking for enough shows throughout 2 days that I either want to see or that I don't mind seeing. I'm thinking Pretty Lights, possibly Lips or alt-J, maybe a makeup Chance set? I'd be down to see NAS again. Maybe a few crossovers with Hangout like Vince Staples and Big Grams? There are so many acts that you would expect would be there or do after parties that will be in South America, so I don't really have a feel on the EDM beyond PL if they end up going that route. Tipper owes a makeup show as well.

Where did you see that?
There is something on the page that shit is brewing and about to hit in the coming weeks. Plus in the past the lineup has always dropped around the second week of December.

IDK if Big Grams considers BUKU a major festival, but Big Boi said that they were touring and hitting all major fests, so fingers crossed this one is on the list.

I think Big Boi just meant they will be at the big four, like Roo, Coach, Lolla, and ACL, as well as some of the other smaller fests. Buku seems like a stop that would be included on their festy tour.

As you know, they're at Hangout which is about 2.5x the size of Buku but is another Goldenvoice/AEG Live production. It would probably make sense for them to cut their teeth live at Buku since it's like the second or third week of festival season. I think only Aura and Okeechobee for majors/somewhat-majors are in front of Buku, right?

I don't know. SxSW, Coachella, and Wanee are first on my radar.

Aren't they at the Okeechobee festival? That does that make them less likely? Also, isn't SXSW after Buku? I guess I could ask google.
SXSW starts on the 13th. Buku is the 11/12. Aura is 3/3-5 but they aren't playing that. Okechobee is 3/4-6 so that's also the weekend before. And yes, Big Grams is on that lineup. So I would assume they'd hit up this way on their way to SXSW if they're playing that. I don't even really much care about SX, but I know it's a big deal.
Phantogram was here two years ago for a whole bunch of SXSW parties, then came down for just DJ Set last year. I wouldn't be surprised to see them host a major party house as Big Grams. Possibly for Samsung.
Doesn't Buku have to wait for Ultra before releasing their lineup?
LMAO if that was intended snide, but not exactly. Sure, there are some DJ/EDM acts that play both every year, but it's nowhere near the same type of festival. They bring a lot of Rap, Rock and sometimes jam. Maybe I haven't given enough of a shit to ever have checked (or remembered if I did) Ultra's lineup, but I don't think they give you that. Might want to recheck the lineups at Buku from 13, 14 and 15 and see that it's not really the same as any other festival. It's just a small, boutique kind of fest that caters to several different genres every year.
Looked at the Ultra 14 and 15 lineups, and while there was some edm crossover between the festivals (as is also the case with Coachella, ACL, Voodoo, Bonnaroo, Hangout, etc), that seems like all they do. They do have some live sampling acts such as Big G, Odezsa and whatever, but that's the only crossover.
I can't swear because I'm not going to waste my time further researching the lineups from a festival I don't care about and will never go to, but it's probably safe to say they didn't feature: Nas' initial anniversary performance of Illmatic, Tribe, Lips, Public Enemy, Boosie Badass, Bone Thugs, Thundercat, Lotus, Explosions in the Sky, Primus 3-D, Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T, Gravity A, Conspirator, STS9 with Big G, TV on the Radio, Run the Jewels, Ghostface Killah, etc.
Still not sure if Fozzie Bear was trolling, but the overlap is only in the electronica. Ultra has way more (and generally bigger and more house oriented acts) whereas Buku brings rap, buzz acts and shit.
Damn. They've been tightlipped this year. I saw the twitter post that said stay tuned for shit during the countdown. Seems like their one clue last week was Crystal Castles who I never listened to. And I think the general consensus is that Pretty Lights will be the EDM headliner since he was wandering the crowd partying last year and hasn't played it yet. But I'd still like to know if they're going to bring back alt-j or someone of that caliber since last year's major bands were more on the wimpy side than years past. I know people dig on Empire of the Sun and Passion Pit, but I'd rather things more on the experimental side like when they brought in Primus 3-D or the Lips 2014 tour. I know a lot of people didn't like The Terror album, but I thought a lot of it translated really well live. JMO
The first buklue looks like chemical brothers most recent album cover, hopefully that's them. And I'd recommend looking at the #buklue tag on Instagram
Oh fuck the buklue has a sax and a teddy bear head. That's gotta be Big Gigantic with Griz collaboration. Fucking right if so. Last one I saw with some of those guys was Gigantic Underground Conspiracy which obviously ruled and then STS9 Big G collab at Waka back to back nights. Griz/Big G would be awesome but that's probably too easy.

Are you talking about the one that has the CC on the jacket? I thought that was Crystal Castles.
