Anybody watching Aziz Ansari's new show on Netflix? I'm about six episodes in and it's pretty good so far. I see a fair amount of influence from Louie and Ricky Gervais (particularly, Extras), but not so much that it doesn't mostly seem original.
One of the best new shows out there. Still have two to go, but really liked the "Coming to America" and Nashville episodes, whatever they're called. Definitely agree on the Louie influence, but with Aziz's kinder sense of humor. I'm surprised it hasn't blown up on social media/Buzzfeed/etc. yet.
A few episodes in and have enjoyed them all so far. The first episode about kids was the most laugh out loud funny to me, but they've all been funny and thoroughly entertaining. I love that Aziz has his own parents playing his parents on the show.
Definitely a Louie influence but I've got no problem with that, the more shows influenced by Louie the better.
EDIT: also Noel Wells is great and easy to develop a TV crush on.
All the supporting cast is great really. Loving Eric Wareheim, his character is perfect.

eh, I am on the fence about it. I've only seen the first two episodes so far, but I just don't really feel it. I get that the plot is basically a foil for a fleshed out stand up bit, but it just seems too contrived for me. It fits into the weird space of too long for sketch but not enough development for a show. And I didn't find it nearly as clever or sharp as Louie. the first episode to me just seemed like a series of cliches and stereotypes and a few too many jokes that relied on being silly or absurd that just seemed to fall flat.
like the dick on the waffles thing. that's not a realistic behavior for a 10 year old, regardless of how shitty a parent is. and it wasn't absurd in a funny way. it was just a little kid dick joke
. The second episode I didn't really find funny at all, and fell asleep about 3/4 through. I really like Aziz, but this just seemed really bad and unoriginal to me.

I didn't like the first episode at all. Being a mom the inaccuracies of parenthood in that show drove me nuts. I complained the whole episode and therfore didn't watch the second.

Interesting. I wondered after reading snowmanomura's comment whether having kids or not might have something to do with how a person felt about the first episode. I don't have kids and am rarely around them. Maybe it's that the episode was less a representation of what it's like to have kids and more a representation of what people who don't have kids think it's like to have kids.
The episodes that I've watched so far have been pretty self-contained. There are a few things that run through them, but they are each kind of different. If the only thing you really didn't like about the first one was the representation of parenthood, then it might be worth giving more of them a try. But if it was more than that, it may just not be your thing.
I am planning on giving it another shot, just after that first episode I couldn't watch another one right then. That first episode just really rubbed me wrong.

this is how I saw it, since I know Aziz doesn't have kids, and does bits about his perceptions of having kids. But I don't have kids and am not going to pretend to know anything about it.

I'd suggest watching the Immigrant Parents episode and see how you feel. Definitely more of Aziz describing his experience rather than describing his perceptions of an experience. The date/Father John Misty episode was pretty fantastic as well.
I watched the whole season friday. It's pretty damn good but the ending (especially if you're single or contemplating life) is a total mind fuck. But in a good way! LOOOOOVE AZIZ!!

whaaaaaat lol how????? give it another shot. each episode is about something else. it's not all about kids. promise! it's adorable!

idk. i felt the opposite. i could relate to a lot it bc modern dating sucks. and my son is 4 (almost 5) and obsessed with his dick. if he had a chance to put his dick on waffles (bc we are obviously team pancake) he would. maybe not in a store but he would do it.
when you get further in, I could relate to so many of the episodes. especially the 'mornings' episode. damn.

I understand that, but when you watch something that genuinely annoyed/aggravated you, first instinct isn't to watch the next episode.

I almost wrote something about my perspective as a parent probably influencing how I felt about it. Some of the parenting jokes were also a bit recycled, if not outright reddit/fb/twitter memes. I did get a couple good chuckles, but it was non sequitur and slapstick stuff. And compared with Louie, which I think is an excellent (though sometimes depressing show), it seemed to lack any insightful revelations in the humor so I didn't find the value.
Finished season two last night. I don't know if it's an objectively good show because I have tunnel vision and just adore it so much. Every word out of Arnold's mouth kills me. I loved the experimentation in this season as well, with New York I Love You, Thanksgiving, and the hour long episode nine. The homages to Italian cinema were great as well.

I have two more episodes left. My only complaint is that again the show fell into the manic pixie dream girl trope. The relationship plot line felt too unrealistic, and seemed like he was just covering the same ground as last season more or less.

Thanksgiving was my favorite ep so far.
I agree with the romance bit. At least the first gf was somewhat believable.
