That booking is looking better and better for Hangout after those tour dates came out. Good for them. Just didn't get enough around them for me or my group.
Ironic that the festival Sigur Ros decided to play is likely the one they will have the smallest crowd at.
Yeah I was thinking about that today. Such a cool and tripped out live band in what's otherwise mostly a musical desert. It's like there is no other compliment to that booking. It could almost be a flop in as much as most Sigur Ros fans and 2017 Hangout lineup fans are mutually exclusive. If they want to bring that level of artistry, don't make it one act. it's really on the fringe of what became more of a frat fest right of passage. I'm sure some people will go see them, but it's not some casual hey wow get down shit.

even though i cant get into the music on record i think if they played a sunset slot on whatever stage i would prob enjoy it enough. Would make for a nice chill set in the sand

agree with this. I think this was a big reason for Roo flopping last year. They didnt do a good enough job of pairing undercard acts that fit with the headliners. Throw those fans a bone and have like 3 more acts that fit that mold to really peak the interest.

Putting Stapleton and Isbell on separate days was probably intentional. People who enjoy that genre had to go two days. Not a whole lot else in that style of music. Next would be the bluegrass tent, Alan Stone, Nathaniel Ratliff, and Leon Bridges. Pearl Jam pairs with anything. My opinion.

Agree with current fest booking in general. It's all so completely random. There trying to please too many fan bases. I think it's also a byproduct of these large companies booking for multiple fests simultaneously.

Doesn’t mgmt fit with Sigur Ros to some degree?
I think only a tiny bit, but I think Sigur Ros fits more with old progressive bands like Yes or Pink Floyd or freakier late 80's/90's stuff like Enya. They actually would fit in just fine at Day for Night had they been able to book them. But that's a 180 from Hangout.

...didn't mean musically. just that fans of one might be inclined to be fans of the other...like if SK had booked both, no one would blink.
Weezer was giving out tickets last Wednesday to their show in Houston (due to low ticket sales, I'm told)
Can confirm. I went for free and got tickets for 10 friends. People were giving them away outside also. Poor scalpers didn't know what to do.
How was it? Wanted to go, almost felt bad for Weezer. It's just hard to break away on a Wednesday night and get all the way downtown (I live in Pearland)

It was a fun show. I had a great time being able to dance around and not be near anyone. Luckily I live in the loop so I hit Platypus Brewery first. Thank goodness for Uber.
Shout out to my neighbor Dolly Parton and her Telethon on multiple channels tonight. The disastrous wildfires in East Tennessee really hurt a lot of folks. Dolly is donating $1,000 a month to families who were burned out of their homes. A lot of people from Nashville are expected to just show up and play tonight. Chris Stapleton and Don McLean also on the lineup. If you don't have something else planned, got a DVR, check it out. I've made several donations thru local charities. People helping people.

Is Houston a 'music town'? I don't feel like I notice it on a lot of bands' tours.

I wouldn't consider it a "music town". But it's large enough that most acts make a stop here, and when they do you don't normally have any issues with tickets. There's a summer festival called Free Press you can normally buy wrist bands off Craigslist day of for around 100 each that typically has some acts worth seeing too.

I've seen DMB, Phish, Foo Fighters, and Pearl jam all there. All were awesome shows. Great production set ups and great sound. Zero issue with any of them. I was on the field for DMB and Foos, 200 level for PJ and 100 level for Phish and didn't have any sound issues with any of them.

Right on, I've been in the nosebleeds and right in front, sound is always spot-on. It's a great place for a show. Who's on your radar?

petty>dead back to back...not sure about getting off that day yet, but would be pretty cool.
