Initial early bird onsale Thursday at 10 am, with City Hall Plaza early bird pricing for the new, bigger event. They are only making 1,000 tickets available, so don't sleep on this. The page requires a password, I'm sure that's forthcoming via e-mail and/or social media.
(And, yes, with the number of stages they're going to have at the new site, I'm more than willing to risk a blind early bird purchase. They'd have to work really hard to book that many acts I didn't like :-P)

Well they better not fuck up, or else we won't hear the end of it.

The more I think about this past weekend, the more I conclude it was one of the better editions of BC.
...With the exception of that goddamn Patriots player coming out to yell FREE BRADY!!! That type of pandering was tacky AF and has no place at a music event.

Lol agreed on all points. This was probably my favorite Boston Calling yet and I'm very stoked for next year! Here's hoping they book a similarly eclectic line up because the more I think about it the more I'm impressed by how many good acts I saw. Definitely more than previous editions.
VIP is really cheap for this. What comes with it? I know it usually isn't worth it but dishing out less than $100 more for VIP is tempting. Does it get (good) special viewing and/or food. I don't drink so alcohol means nothing to me

I don't think anyone really knows with the new location. VIP wasn't really worth it before, but I would hope its better next May.

Agreed that VIP at Gov Center wasn't worth the price at all, but it did come with food and unlimited seltzer water. It's hard to know what we'll be getting for VIP at the Harvard Athletics field, but for that price it's totally a steal.
If I had the available funds I'd probably be getting one of those early birds. That price is hard to pass up, especially considering that the price is likely to go up quite a bit for the new venue, bigger lineup, etc.
In honor of the venue change, here are my top 10 sets from Boston Calling history. Would love to see some of yours. I didn't attend Sept. 2013 or Sept. 2015.
1. Beck 2. Janelle Monáe 3. Lorde 4. St. Vincent 5. Neutral Milk Hotel 6. Sufjan Stevens 7. The National (2014) 8. My Morning Jacket 9. The Districts 10. Sia

I attended all the editions with the exceptions of the days that Vampire Weekend and Avett Brothers headlined.
1) Sufjan 2) The National (2013) 3) Death Cab 4) Ben Howard 5) Janelle Monae 6) Beck 7) The National (2014) 8) Courtney Barnett 9) Modest Mouse 10) Chvrches
Biggest honorable mention/guilty pleasure was Major Lazer in 2013.

I've been to every fest except the first one.
1. Janelle Monae 2. Beck 3. Bat For Lashes 4. The Replacements 5. Warpaint 6. Run The Jewels 7. Courtney Barnett 8. Sufjan Stevens 9. Charles Bradley 10. Robyn
HM: Modest Mouse (Cowboy Dan!) and Tame Impala (love 'em but the worst time I've seen them out of ten)
Wait....both of you attended Friday last May and DON'T have Tame Impala on your list but DO have Beck???
Don't get me wrong, I thought Beck was awesome.
No Innerspeaker tunes brought it down for me. I've seen them ten times and Boston Calling and Gov Ball are my least favorite shows. They needed more time!

I'm on the same page. I've seen them a number of times and BC was probably the least good. That was my first time seeing Beck and he blew me away. Same reason Courtney Barnett didn't make my list. She was great last weekend, but her Sinclair show last year was something else

Damn yeah, I could imagine Courtney at the Sinclair was amazing! It was also my first time seeing Beck.
Tame Impala were good, but they weren't the usual great I expect. They do such a good job pacing their setlists that a festival set just seems too short.

Tame Impala's vibe was just off last year. Could have been the chilly weather or the crowd. GovBall was also a short set and was even earlier in the day, but the ambiance was so much more welcoming there.

I was thinking of skipping Tame Impala at Roo because of the massive crowd migrations between Which, What, Which between M83 LCD and them, but if their Boston Calling performance was not considered "good" then my mind has been changed.

Also note that Tame Impala hasn't come back since, despite that they could easily sell out Agganis or the Pavilion. Perhaps they didn't have a good time at BC last year?

Roo late night with their full production and a set length equivalent to their own show is the perfect context to see them in!
Lol I really can't believe you are buying early bird.
It's the difference between one-band-at-a-time and two-to-four-acts at a time.
I'm also remembering that this is the same fest that's booked The Replacements, My Morning Jacket, Jason Isbell, Hozier, Father John Misty, Lake Street Dive, Run The Jewels, etc.

Nah, I doubt it's that. There were rumors of them not having a good time at Roo 2013 but that show was fine and they're back this year. I think their insistence on playing every fest that has ever existed is to blame.

An artist would have to have a REALLY bad time to not come back to a city. They're not really in control of routing their tours, so they'd have to put up a big fight with whoever is to convince them to just stop playing one city. That being said, it is strange they haven't been back, but I'd guess that just has to do with finding the right time and the right deal with the right venue.

I'm really looking forward to see what Boston Calling can pull off next year. I'm trying to go to Coachella next year so I can't buy early birds. I'm hoping for Lana, The Strokes, and The xx off the top of my head for bands that would be really hard to say no to.

The Strokes and Florence are the two artists I've been waiting for since the first BC. Not sure how they haven't been able to book either one yet, but I'd guess Flo is off the table for next year. I'll hold out hope that 2017 will be the year of the Strokes though

Please do. It's that old cliche...fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
It's not outside the realm of human possibility that Crash Line could somehow book a diverse lineup and manage to hit every act in genres I otherwise like, but don't care for.
For example, you'd think that I'd like Courtney Barnett. Loud guitar indie rock, yada yada. The thing is, I can't stand her voice. She's the only Australian singer I've ever heard who carries the accent through to her singing voice, and I can't help but think of "shrimp on the barbie," Fosters TV ads, and those horrible Crocodile Dundee movies every time I hear it.
I'm going into this like a gambler hoping to win, but who might not. I still think, though, the odds are in my favor that I'll get my money's worth.
On a random note, Sunday night's aftershow was my first time at The Sinclair, and I loved the venue. It's set up very well, and the sound was great, with a great view of the stage from the bar area. It makes me want to seek out shows there more often.

It's one of my favorite Boston-area venues. Maybe even number 1. Reminds me of a slightly smaller version of Bowery Ballroom or Music Hall of Williamsburg in NYC, which are also great
My bet is placed, I've got my early bird. It's amazing how Eventbrite is able to handle a deluge of orders at the moment tickets go on sale, while Ticketmaster (and redsox.com) have issues.
Good luck to all in getting the 1000 available tickets.
