This is off-topic, but I thought it might be worthwhile to spread the word about a few area benefits happening within the next couple of weeks which give you the opportunity to catch a lot of local acts (including some Boston Calling alumni) and help some very worthy causes.
This Sunday night, 12/11, the Regent Theater in Arlington is doing its annual holiday benefit concert, this year helping the Leonard P. Zakim Center for Integrative Therapies at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. If you buy by phone, in-person, or online and mention "Zakim," you'll get $10 off the price of your ticket.

Was so upset about Roo that I didn't even think of BC. That looks pretty likely to me! Maybe a night of Sigur Ros > Bon Iver?

I hope so! I don't think I can commit to that NY date.
Welcome back Bonz, but I do not find it strange that your presence being requested in the Orgy thread and then you showing up, like it was the quacking Bonzai Bat Signal.

I can't imagine Sigur Ros not headlining, but I could also see them potentially booking a bigger headliner for the #1 spot too.
They're billed 9th at Hangout. I know they played Agganis and that BC probably caters to their audience a bit more than Hangout does, but it's definitely possible they don't headline. I think they're a band that also gets worse billing at festivals than the venues they play would suggest. They just have a big cult following that makes them a huge draw on their own but not as much when thrust into a fest setting.
Like I said, Sigur Ros into Bon Iver would make sense. And be an emotional night.

True, if BC got any of those eight acts that are above them at Hangout (aside from MGMT whose billing makes no sense at all) they'd be ranked lower. I guess what I'm saying is that I think BC will book one, maybe two, acts that are bigger than Sigur Ros, but not eight.
Definitely agree that it could go either way. Getting Sigur Ros would be pretty fantastic either way.

Maybe Saturday would be Sigur Ros--->the XX----> Bon Iver as the last 3 acts of the night? Because to be honest I don't think Sigur Ros has a following to play to 34k people in Boston as the night closer.

Now now here me out.
MUMFORD AND SONS (or the killers or strokes or LCD but perhaps) | BON IVER | CHILDISH GAMBINO (and/or, rather most likely) CHANCE THE RAPPER (but maybe) KENDRICK TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB | THE xx | SUIGR ROS | DJ SANKE | THE 1975 | (a 'legend' who hasn't played in ages) GLASS ANIMALS | FRANZ FREDINAND | DILLION FRANCIS | EMELI SANDE YOUNG THE GIANT | GROUPLOVE | FITZ AND THE TANTRUMS | (another crappy DJ) D.R.A.M | LIL YACHTY | LIL DICKY | ??? | ??? | ??? SAINT MOTEL | AURORA | JOSEPH | BISHOP BRIGGS | BOB MOSES COIN | 888 | (boston band) | (boston band| | (boston band)
Clearly I just took some bands from Hangout, but we do share a few acts (Beck headlined with in 2014) here and there. TDCC will be around in May, first US date is May 1. But all in all i'm at a loss for how many acts and the scale as to how big the acts they got are. 1975 is doing 'late spring/early summer NA festivals' according to their manager's twitter, Young the Giant and Grouplove both played boston in NOV but have since announced a run of spring dates w/o boston on both.
I have no clue.
*edit- idk about the billing for her cuz she hasn't done anything for ages, but Emeli Sande doesn't have any US dates planned, her EU tour ends either on the first day of, or right before, Coachella (then doing a full-on UK arena tour in October). Perhaps she'll be a BC thing like Monae was this past year

I find it unlikely we get all three of those acts in one night. 2/3 seems reasonable though.

That would also push SR into the daylight, which seems like a waste.
Do we think there's any potential they move to system with opposed headliners? Because if we luck out with Kendrick or Chance and then they put SR up against them, I'd be upset.

I would think that opposing headliners would be the next logical step for a growing fest. While the undercard is usually a huge draw for me I know a lot of people who would look at that top line see someone they don't know (SR/LCD) and go not worth my money. If SR is headlining they would have to put them up against someone who is much more well known or that day will be absolutely empty. I would say SR is either a sub or they're has to be opposing headliners. Kendrick/Chance vs. SR would make a lot of sense to me though unfortunately, one big name that everyone knows from the radio and one name that is cool and can still draw a crowd but not nearly as well recognized.

You're pretty good at this whole discussion thing huh?
So are we to expect Bon Iver, Chance, and Weezer as our top 3? Doesn't seem like that would be the biggest year ever to me.
Yea if that is the top 3, I'm gonna be way disappointed and i love chance. I just, especially with the crowd they had this year, having WEEZER HEADLINE the same fest as Sia Disclosure and honestly i forgot the other one, like that would be a drastic change for the age group they catered to this year. I get if they will sub or something but i'd be so sad if they are hyping up all this lineup and location move for a .....weezer show. Like maybe again have them sub with like Mumford or SOMETHING more relevant that the 'kiddies' know, but 34K headliner spot? eh....
Post by wheattoast1 on Dec 13, 2016 16:51:23 GMT -5
Also, I hope BC realize that, if Weezer is in fact a sole headliner, that their show at Xfintiy Center sold out over the summer only because it was a co-headline with Panic at The Disco.
BON IVER | CHANCE the RAPPER | MUMFORD and SONS | WEEZER the XX | Sigur Ros | the 1975 | Dillion Francis (or some other crappy DJ/edm) | Two Door Cinema Club Glass Animals | Fitz and the Tantrums | Grouplove Young The Giant | Cold War Kids | Alessia Cara Nathaniel Rateliff and The Night Sweats Emeli Sande | D.R.A.M | Lil Yachty Bishop Briggs Saint Motel | Bob Moses | Aurora | Joseph Coin | 888 | (boston band) | (boston band) | (boston band)
This is if they pull a Lorde/Gambino like in 2015 with Bon Iver/Chance. Got Chance do a full set, then the other stage got Bon Iver closing the same night, leaving another headliner night open (mumford or something). I just have no clue how many bands they are gonna have and not sure how close this would be if at all.

This fest has my expectations crumpled up in a ball on the floor. That said, I saw bon iver this weekend and will be there if they play. Just do not want to see them with a boston calling crowd. Their show at boa a few years ago is maybe the most disappointed I've ever been at a crowd; a lot of people were really drunk, talking the whole time, shouting out at incredibly inappropriate moments, showing up cause they "love that slinny lovers song!!!!1!!!1!!!"

Yeah, one of the reasons why the Pavilion blows. At least at BC, you can get up front early enough to avoid most of the fucktards who behave like this.
I have a little more faith in BC than that. Some, if not most, of those names will be there but they have done a fantastic job in the past making interesting lineups that are usually very different from those of the bigger name fests. But then again that could just be me being way to optimistic. Maybe part of them growing is them becoming like every other festival...

No I agree, I think pretty much every year they've surprised me with at least one or two interesting names that I'm not expecting. The only artists I feel relatively confident in thinking will be there are Bon Iver, Chance, and Sigur Ros.
