As much as I would like it to be the answer, I'm still not really convinced. If you look at the other clues this year, they all seem pretty direct and straightforward with a likely answer. GYBE is a better guess than Wavves clue wise, but I still don't think it's a case where it's a good enough answer to consider it solved.
I agree with this. I think it fits the clue, but I'm terrible at guessing these things, so I really have no idea. Yes, I want it to be GYBE, so I want it to fit. I don't believe it would be crazy for them to play. It seems like slowly but surely roo gets around to everything, they've had Sigur Ros, EITS and Mogwai, GYBE is in line for next.

I'm just glad we only have one unsolved clue so far. I've had almost no headaches reading these threads. But people are trying. They are always trying.

See, and I really think EITS is coming back this year.

They have an intriguing gap in their tour, I would actually prefer them over GYBE if they would only book one.
You flat-out said "It's not GYBE", so maybe not "impossible" but highly unlikely, and you seem quite convinced that there's a very small chance. I guess the "waving goodbye" comparison fits the clue for Wavves, but again that just feels too forced. The GYBE connections aren't perfect but stronger than Wavves IMO, so I guess we can agree to disagree on that. I'm not saying we should consider this thing solved.
If farewell is a reference to wav(v)ing, where does the "antagonist" part come in?

This is why I can't ever say GYBE 100% won't play Bonnaroo. Bonnaroo occasionally gets unexpected bands in the undercard. To add to your list, I doubt anyone would have expected Swans before they showed on a lineup.

Madness.
I got into EITS before GYBE and have never seen either band live, it's just a personal preference. Both in a LN tent would be ideal. GYBE would be epic.

All the post rock stuff I can think of has been in the daytime the last couple years. Mogwai, EITS, Swans...

I like EITS, but they just can't compare to GY!BE live.
That said, I'd likely be at both shows if either end up on the lineup.

I like both as well. I just like GYBE more. Also, I wouldn't be expecting a LN for either band if they got booked. EITS played a sunset set the last time they played which was a great spot for them.

I'll take your word for it. They are both near the top of my list, hoping to knock at least one off at Roo.
Getting this clue-speculatin' back on track ... I firmly believe that the wording of this clue suggests a direct reference to the band's name, like it was for the clues for Blood Orange and Tyler, The Creator. Not a reference to song or album titles. "Antagonist Farewell" screams "synonyms in place of a similar phrase."
If we want to get more obscure...Do Make Say Think (coincidentally, another Canadian post-rock band) have an album called "Goodbye Enemy Airship the Landlord Is Dead" and they are currently working on a new album. Not sure where the demon part would fit in though...

I've seen both 3 times. GYBE is light years ahead and I love EITS.
An easier way would be to look at is who would be an antagonist from the perspective of two demons.
I think this is the perspective we should be going after. I'm thinking the band name would represent the loss/fleeing/farewell of something a demon would consider an antagonist. A demon's antagonist should be something like god/angel/diving/holy spirit/moral etc...

Well...There's this.
Sorry for bringing this up.
EDIT: Loverboy also have a song called "Goodbye Angel" and are playing the Moondance Jam in Minnesota in July. Dammit, now I'm going against everything I said about this clue before.
Not sure how the "farewell" fits in but the antagonist part makes sense. Also, almost every clue this year relates directly to the bands name and not to album or song titles, which is why I don't think the answer is Wavves. When you google both of these words, these wiki entries are the first thing that pop up, and seeing how simple the rest of these clues are this makes sense. Plus his new album came out less than a week ago, and it's been years since his last album, which means he'll probably be touring next year.
Edit: Also in Dante refers to Satan as the Emperor of hell and his appearance is of a giant demon. And of course Satan is the antagonist in Dantes Inferno
Vergil and Dante in Devil May Cry (game) are demons. Vergil was the antagonist.
I'm not rocking the boat by throwing The Weeknd back in there folks. Just an observation/play off of the inferno reference.
A demon saying "Godspeed" to another demon? Sure, I guess.

yeah, i'm not buying that either. i'd love to see gybe at roo, though, i just don't see them being the solution to this clue.

For what it's worth, they have no Nashville date either.
Edit: And no, I don't think this is the answer.

How to destroy angels? Demon to demon... isn't an angel the main antagonist you think of. Destroying them is one way in which a demon may say farewell to its antagonist.
I keep coming back to this........
Might make NIN more of a possibility as well? Chess?

I'm glad someone appreciated this guess. Seemed like such a clear line of thinking to me. Probably wrong but hey.
