Baz Luhrmann. Netflix original series. ‘70s-set music drama. The birth of hip hop. The Get Down already has a lot going for it, but fans who’ve been following this intriguing project now get their first look through a sizzle reel. There’s Boogie Nights-style dance moves, soulful ballads, romance, death, and a story about chasing the American dream during a tumultuous time that’s sure to pique your interest.
The 13 hourlong episodes, which feature a diverse cast, come at a poignant time when the Black Lives Matter movement continues its trek. Some of the faces populating the drama include newcomers Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Mamoudou Athie, Skylan Brooks (Southpaw), and Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad). Luhrmann has been teasing the explosion of creativity that comes from these down-on-their-luck characters, and the footage itself is vibrant and colorful.

Between this and Vinyl on HBO I'm really looking forward to 70's era, music-focused TV dramas.
