I for one can't wait for Beck's new album. I love Dreams and Wow. I'm gonna pray he comes near me but regardless I would like Beck to take me to funky town next year. I think he deserves to headline but I just want to see him on the farm.
I would like to see him headline, but if not I would hope he gets the MMJ treatment and gets two hours on What.
I don't see Live Nation looking at ticket sales this year and thinking to themselves, hey lets book Phish next year.
I don't see them making that first giant leap into pop with Beyoncé or Sia after their worst year. Phish makes more sense than completely bucking the system.

It depends how they view the low attendance this year. They could take it as "Wow we didn't book a great lineup this year, let's go back to what we were doing when we were selling out" or they could go with "Maybe the kids aren't into bands like Dead & Co. and LCD Soundsystem and we need some more popular acts like J. Cole and Ellie Goulding"
Paul McCartney is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet.
I'd hope you can tell the difference...
Why split hairs? Beyonce and Paul McCartney are both innovators of their respective generations. I have no doubt Beyonce will be remembered nearly as fondly as he will.
What's wrong with sia or Beyoncé? I'd love to see either
As would I! I was responding to people suggesting that the low ticket sales would prevent Roo from booking Beyoncé/Sia or Phish. The hope is that Roo and the people who book the artists recognize that the problem had little to do with the genres represented at the festival and more to do with the quality of many of the artists on the lineup.

Nothing, and many of us would. But do you think, out of all the variables to change, a big name/big money pop star like Sia would be the gamble to make?

Let's put it this way: How many people would buy a ticket based on Beyoncé or Sia AND be willing to tough out a four-day, hot, humid, sweaty, smelly festival on a farm in Tennessee? I just don't see how that's not a risky move.

I'd guess most people here think that. Hangout sold more tickets than Bonnaroo this year with Calvin Harris and The Weeknd topping the bill.

Every year some poster tries to paint an image of people who would enjoy a pop show as glamping prima donnas who have an aversion to the outdoors. Stop.

judging by Sia's coachella crowd and Beyonces Glastonbury crowd, a lot.

That's not what I'm saying at all. I'd enjoy either of these shows, but I don't think a big name/big money pop act would move a ton of people. I'm guessing that's why it hasn't happened in 15 years. It's just a different festival crowd than others.

I just emphatically disagree, I guess. Someone like Beyonce would move many tickets. Sia isn't in the same category as Beyonce, so I don't think you can group them together. Beyonce would be #1, whereas Sia would fill the #4, or maybe #3 if she releases some hit singles next year.
Is it so unrealistic that bonnaroo can't book a someone like sia and someone like phish at the same festival? Bonnaroo is not just one genre.
I never said that. Is it unrealistic to believe they won't try a new genre as a headliner the year after the lowest attendance in 15 years? It's pretty evident headliners weren't the issue this year.

What you have to remember is that inforoo does not represent the average Bonnaroo attendee. While we collectively thought the headliners were pretty solid, most of the people on the facebook page and other bonnaroo related groups were really dissatisfied with them, but really pumped for shit like The Chainsmokers and Third Eye Blind.

The last couple years had Paul McCartney, Elton John and Billy Joel. They're not afraid to book pop. If anything, they need to book more names like Beyoncé and Rihanna and JT because those the only names that aren't playing many other fests and would make Bonnaroo standout in an overly competitive market.

I don't know. I talked to a bunch of people at this years Roo and the number of individuals that named the chainsmokers, ellie goulding, and other mainstream pop/edm acts as their most anticipated was pretty large. Not saying the sample should be taken as the entire population, but I'm fairly sure that Roo would have sold a hell of a lot more ticket this year if Beyonce replaced any of the headliners.

What they've booked vs. what you're saying they should book are very different pop fan bases. I agree they need to approach things differently to compete. Frankly, any of those acts cost as much and likely more than their most expensive booking yet. I'm interested to see it happen...I don't see it happening now, after the 2016 flop.
