Neil Young - Tool - LDR - Beck seems realistic and quite pleasing for me personally.
This would lead to another 46K year
I agree. And the top act isn't going to be Neil young. It's going to be Radiohead, Drake or some other huge act. They need a powerhouse ticket mover next year. Drake / Arcade Fire/ Neil Young/ LDR/ Beck That will move tickets
Depends on the other touring they're doing next year imo. As some1 who lives in Chicago, it wouldn't take a crazy great undercard to get me there if Tool was there because they haven't played in Chicago in forever. Closest was St Louis on a Friday in January and we all took off work and paid the ridic StubHub prices to see that show because tickets were impossible and they never seem to leave the southwest. The reason I feel Tool may not happen is because we seem to think AF is very likely. I don't see AF and Tool both being there since they're both playing Voodoo 7 months before. Not that it should matter, just doesn't feel likely imo.

Yeah, that AF/Tool concern was my first thought. And to all the people saying it wouldn't be big enough, just replace Neil with Waters or Radiohead, I was just trying to make something different from the same 4 variations that keep being stated.

Yeah, I doubt we'd get both Tool and Arcade Fire. And AF would definitely be the more surefire choice to sell more tickets, and just seem likely after skipping Roo in 2014 and readying a new album. It's not impossible that the album doesn't end up coming out until next fall and they do festivals in 2018, but there seems to already be too much activity from them for the album to be that far away.

First time joining this thread - I haven't read it through yet. To me its just way too early to tell, even though it is fun to predict such things. I think next year they will finally have a female headliner - and it just may be Adele.

Nah. Keep trying though, it takes some time.
In all seriousness, I don't think Roo will ever get Adele. If she ever plays a US festival, it will almost definitely be Coachella. But I wouldn't be surprised if it just never happens. She played Glastonbury because she had dreamed of playing since she was growing up and it's fucking Glastonbury, but I get the impression she's still probably a little terrified of festivals. Maybe that's changing, but she still won't play Bonnaroo. Beyoncé is more likely and she's also very unlikely.
But while we're on the subject of female headliners, what's our list of potential ones in the next three years? Beyoncé Fleetwood Mac Florence + the Machine Alabama Shakes Lana Del Ray Lorde Rihanna? Lady Gaga?

There's so many, as far as future female headliners. I saw Fleetwood Mac last year in my hometown and that was arguably one of the best performances I've ever seen. They seem like the kind of group that would rather just stick to playing and selling-out arenas, not festivals. What do I know....if they could just jump on the festival bandwagon. But I can see them doing an epic show at the Farm, especially if all the millennials and elderly know all their songs. Beyonce is hot right now, and Florence has already headlined some major festivals. Gaga? Maybe. I'm also gonna go really crazy on this one and throw in Taylor Swift.

i think we could see florence headline in 2018. other than that i think lana and rihanna all have a decent chance at headlining roo at some point in their careers.

Fleetwood Mac played Isle of Wight last year. No US festivals, but it could definitely happen with the right offer/timing. T Swift has been talked about before, but she's previously mentioned hating the idea of playing a festival because there are too many factors not in her control.
I said this in the Panorama thread, but after seeing her this weekend Sia should 100% be a headliner, especially if she is still capable of bringing out the full live show by summer of next year. It's absolutely amazing.
I would be super happy with a sia headlining set (I know I'm probably not the only one). I think bonnaroo would be the only place I could possibly see sia anyway besides Lolla.
Sia really doesnt seem like a headliner Bonnaroo would ever book.
Why not? If they're going to book more pop acts, they could at least book some good pop acts.
Well for one, she's a woman. As much as I enjoyed her Coachella show, I feel like it would be kinda weird to have a headliner that doesn't say anything throughout the show. I feel like her shows and Coachella and Panorama really benefited from those giant screens they had on the main stages that Bonnaroo doesn't. Also after seeing her show once I don't really feel the need to see it again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If I hadn't seen Sia at Boston Calling already, she would've been my #1 show at Panorama, but because I knew what was gonna happen, she fell to about 4th or 5th.

I mean we do need a female headliner to happen already. But yeah I see what you're saying. Speaking of screens though, didn't Paul Mccartney have his own side screens in 2013? So I mean it is possible for an artist to bring their own screen setup.

I would love to see a female headliner at Bonnaroo. I just can't see Sia in the top three the year after they only sold 45,000 tickets. She doesn't seem like the kind of act that will get people to travel to Tennessee. I think she would be a good sub though.

I kind of disagree there, I think Sia has a pretty large mass appeal and overall she's critically well received. I mean DeadMau5 was our number three in 2015 and that year still sold well. I think if you have a big number one and two, something like Radiohead or Drake, you could easily have Sia and maybe Beck be number three and four. Plus she can be a shared headliner on Friday, maybe in the LCD Soundystem time slot.
Unless she puts out another big album, what would bump Sia up to being a headliner when she'd be touring the exact same show that didn't headline Coachella or Panorama? Also, as I've said before, I doubt she'll be touring in the US at all next year. My guess is that the tour in the fall is all we'll get of her until she puts out a new album and potentially decides to crafts a new show.

After 6 years of Bonnaroo, our group just completed our Wayhome experiment.
Aside from the food truck situation at Wayhome, which was a complete disaster, everything else was premium. A lot of small things like water, washrooms, shade, screens, and access to stages/tents were actually much better. The smaller crowd definitely helps with these things.
Headliners were LCD, Arcade Fire, and the Killers, and all were amazing.
Even with a 2017 Headliner lineup that is insane, it would be hard to return to Roo with this new viable Canadian option....

I'd personally swap Paul Simon in for Neil Young and also Lorde in for LDR. Paul Simon just because he hasn't played before and would draw a lot of the same crowd as neil young anyway. It's just personal preference. But I'd have to think Lorde is a lot more likely than LDR because she's expected to release a new album and she hasn't played any festivals in the last couple years. LDR would be nearly 2 years removed from her latest album and has headlined multiple fests this summer already. If they don't get both (they better not get both), I feel like they'd have to pick Lorde.
