Can't say "they're terrible live" if you haven't ever seen them live.
They've put out live albums that are terrible. Also if you noticed I conceded the point. I will say they are widely considered a terrible live band, regardless if Juggs disagrees.

I saw REM in 95, it was a great show.
Stop mansplaining you ignorant swine. Any interaction with a woman is misogynistic.

A lot changes in 21 years. They got a lot of bad press about poor shows in the last few years before they retired.

I've honestly never heard this. Their live album recorded in 2007 gets great reviews. Is there anything in particular you're referring to?
I don't remember the exact publications, but I clearly remember a few articles talking about how lackluster some shows were. Also, when they disbanded the main opinion here on inforoo was that they were a great band who's live show had fallen off.
If I'm wrong on this one, I'm totally okay with it. They're one of my favorite all time bands.

It's tough to make music for that long and still have something interesting to say.
Try Dylan's 30th album Time Out of Mind. 35 years after his debut album. A lot of folks (and Grammy voters) thought he had something interesting to say.
The arctic monkeys played Sunday mid-afternoon, so I just can't see Muse headlining. Though a late night set would be really cool
My ability to be read/show sarcasm today is off, so I just have to make sure. This is a joke right?
It isn't, and I know they've headlined several us festivals. My point is if roo can relegate AM to an afternoon slot then I can see what their priorities are with British bands not named radiohead

Oh boy.
Every Muse album from Absolution to The Resistance has gone Platinum in the United States. Even though their latest efforts haven't sold as well, they still hit the top two in the US, Drones in particular hitting #1.
The Arctic Monkeys? One gold album, and no albums within the top five in the US.
Muse has had three singles hit the top 100 and four more chart within the top 20 on the Bubbling Under Chart. They've also had 15 singles hit the US Alternative Chart.
The Monkeys? One charting single, 3 in the Bubbling Under, and four on the US Alternative chart, all but two of which were off AM.
The Monkeys are a bad comparison because they are just now hitting their stride in the States (Lolla 2014 was their first headlining gig in the US). Muse has been big in the US for as long as the Arctic Monkeys have been around.

Arctic Monkeys and Muse are wildly different animals. Muse haven't just headlined other fests, they've been touring arenas in the US since 2010. Arctic Monkeys played maybe 2 or 3 US arenas in 2014, in huge cities. They were billed 7th at Firefly. They're hands down not nearly as popular as Muse are in the states. That afternoon slot was definitely bad scheduling, but it in no way implies that Roo would for some reason think Muse isn't a headliner. Not even considering that Muse wouldn't book a festival gig that billed them as anything less than a headliner

They didn't even headline Lolla! They opposed Eminem, in the same prestigious slot held by Disclosure, Major Lazer, and Ellie Goulding this year. The only US festival they've ever properly headlined was LouFest..

I'll concede, I guess I'm just bitter that there's all these great English bands that headline glasto or any other euro fest but get ignored here. I like muse but it's just like KoL to me, their early stuff is really great but I'd rather save the headline spot for someone else.
But Drake's big enough that he doesn't need festivals at this stage in his career.
I'm just catching up so I'm sure this comment has already been torn apart or been explained to be sarcasm, but....
You know who else doesn't need festivals at this point in their career and yet still plays fests?
Paul McCartney Elton John Radiohead Kanye West Billy Joel Beyonce Coldplay Jay Z etc.
No bruh you are actually the first.
Drake is peaking right now in terms of omnipresence in popular culture, unlike a bunch of those names you mentioned. The dude keeps adding more and more arena dates that all sell out. Festivals need him more right now than that Drake needs festivals. Sure, it's possible that Bonnaroo books him. But it's also likely that no amount of cash will persuade Drake to play if his team fears overexposure of the brand, or would prefer to headline a couple years down the road.

I'd be content with them booking the Arctic Monkey again and them just playing "Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not" in its entirety. Even if it's at noon on Saturday.

I mean, their later albums definitely suck.
I'll stand by "Up".
And while "Monster" kind of sucks "What's The Frequency Kenneth" defined the fall semester of my junior year in high school. Even then my friends made fun of me for loving it.

I like monster. Your friends were dummies.
Their last five or albums are just inconsistent. There's some good stuff in there, but the highs aren't as high and the lows are really low

1. The question "would REM be a headliner" proves that there are, in fact, stupid questions.
2. I personally was able to see R.E.M. live 3 times. They were absolutely fantastic every time. (side note, one of these shows had both the National and Modest Mouse with Johnny Marr opening, which in hindsight is kind of ridiculous)
3. of REM's last five albums one is complete garbage (Around the Sun), one is middling (Accelerate). Two are very chill albums (Reveal and Collapse into Now), and UP makes a strong argument to be included in top albums of the 90s.
