Big win. Evans over 400 yards while playing the 4th quarter banged up was huge.
Starting to wish they kept that ACC title game in Charlotte. VT 3 remaining conference games are against Duke/GT/UVA who are a combined 2-8 so far in ACC play.

Coach Narduzzi went after the refs hard on the post game. I will wait to watch the replay but it certainly seemed like the VT receivers got away with more than a few pushoffs. Still not sure about that offside in the first quarter either.

Yeah, I'm full of sour grapes, Sue me.
There were inconstancies with the refs calling and not calling pass interference throughout the night (I recall one 3rd down when VT was in the redzone and threw a fade to Hodges, replayed showed the DB extending his hands and grabbing a fist full of jersey...but it didn't get called, settled for an FG).
I could see why Pitt fans were disgruntled tonight, but hard to put the whole game on officiating.

Pitt just can't get over the hump. How many games have they lost by less than a td this year?

OK St - by 7 UNC - by 1 Va Tech - by 3
We have the biggest fucking joke of a secondary in the history of college football. If our secondary was even just the biggest fucking joke of *this season* we would be undefeated.
Paul Chryst doesn't recruit defense for 3 years and somehow that's Pat Narduzzi's fault. The improvement in the secondary is obvious. OK St receivers had wide swaths of green around them when they ran their routes; our guys at least were on the VT guys (sometimes close enough to be pushed off ), they just couldn't make plays on the ball.

Yea that's rough, being so close. I noticed the lack of pass defense, didn't Ok St pass for over 500? I don't believe it's going to be a fun day for you Pitt fans in Death Valley. We'll have plenty of fun at the tailgate though.
I think my fiancee was rooting for the Noles. Complaining about how awful the O line was, saying Francois should quit cause they fail him, wanting one lineman yanked for repeated false starts.

I think this game may be the one where the fanbase starts to turn on Jones. The first two losses were to undefeated teams. This one is to a team that lost to Kentucky. It doesn't help that it's the third loss in a row either. This was also supposed to be the year Tennessee finally won the East again. This loss basically eliminates that possibility, and people aren't going to let that go. With all the rest of the schedule being games Tennessee should win, any more losses will cause Jones's seat to get pretty warm going into next season. Lastly, since snowman mentioned him, I wouldn't be surprised to see Debord not be back next season.

I didn't get to watch most of it because of the Clemson game. WTF happened?

Our offense was inept. The play calling was atrocious. DeBord kept running the same predictable plays on first and second down, and then we'd face an obvious throwing down situation on third and long. And then Dobbs would make like a 7yard throw and We'd punt on 4th and two. I think a decent Madden player could have called a better game. We'd have a couple of flashes of big play throws and then go back to the same run of the mill read option that wasn't working.
Our poor defense is full of second and third stringers, but an inability to use our playmakers on offense is what lost us the game. I don't understand how we have seemingly regressed from last year on offense. Absolute shiz. DeBord 's contract is up at the end of the year and if he is given an extension there will be many, myself included, who see it as the beginning of the end for Butch.

Aaaaand Shy Tuttle is seemingly officially out for the rest of the season. Also, Jonathan Kongbo tweeted something about things coming to an end with cleats hanging up and removed all references to Tennessee from his Twitter. I am back to full paranoia that a big bad something is brewing. Unlike previous seasons though, my first instinct is to check out of it rather than going down the rabbit hole. That's progress, right?
It's kind of a full on dumpster fire at Arizona, but the masses and even the media attacking Rich Rod seems misguided and uninformed. There's something to be said about recruiting and preparing for injury but when you are down to your 6th and 7th options at RB there is only so much you can do. Fortunately the AD seems completely set on giving him at least all of next season, if not more. I have full faith he can get the thing turned around if we can ever get a season without devastating injuries destroying an entire position

yeah, I spent about 10 minutes on the govols247 forum, and apparently there is some discord in the locker that was smoothed over by the wins, and now things are getting ugly with the losses. It hearkens back to our loss to Wyoming that did Fulmer in and the loss to Kentucky. Even last night, I didn't have any of the optimism of the UF, UGA, or even aTm games where we came back, and it didn't seem like the players did either. If we come out flat against Tennessee Tech next week, I could see us self imploding and losing to kentucky or even Vandy.
I had to nope outta the forums though, too many doomsdayers (looks like a little rubbed off on me). I don't seem to care anymore like I used to. I think that is what they call "learned helplessness" in psychology parlance.

I've seen comments on locker room dynamics as well on Facebook posts here and there. I try to discount such things because there's no way to really know unless you're in the locker room which none of those people are. I don't usually listen to people who have a friend who knows because, like most college towns, everyone in Knoxville seems to "know someone". Well, I don't listen to them unless I'm in a post game depression like when I posted the stuff about the sex assault stuff earlier this season. Haha. This time, I've just decided to let it go rather wallow in it, and I'm kind of pre-annoyed at the complaining I'm going to have to listen to at work tomorrow rather than be productive like I really need to be.
It might be a learned helplessness thing, but I think both of us qualify as just having a lot more going on right now. I have a finite amount of energy available, and between kids and work and future plans, I'm kind of full up right now. Something has to fall by the wayside and football has definitely taken a dip over the last year or so because of it.
They're saying Tennessee had a players-only meeting today and Hurd, Kongbo and other players quit the team.
I had seen that people were reporting Hurd had quit, but I didn't know why it was coming up. If true, that's a death sentence for Jones. Lose the locker room. Lose the job.
No, it couldn't. If anyone wants to win some money this week, Clemson is a 28 point favorite over Syracuse. No way they cover.
Why are you like this?
Like what? Not believing Kentucky could play for a championship? Or not believing my team will win by 28, because they've been playing down to the competition?
Man. Things are getting wild. The crux of the story seems to be that Hurd felt he was not the best fit for the scheme Jones was running and had long term durability concerns with the way he was being used. He wanted to transfer after last year, but Jones supposedly made promises about running more plays out of the I which he has not followed through with. Hurd made the decision to go through with the transfer after Jones did not follow through with promises and it being brought to Hurd's mind after he has been hampered with injuries almost the entire year. I want to be mad at Hurd, but I would be pissed if I was in his place. If I was another school, I would come hard with a TE offer as Hurd has the ability to be a great one.
