What are the ideal places to see an artist? That's not to say, "what's your perfect fantasy dream concert?" but, if the stars align, what's the best way to see a band you love?
Good example:
Radiohead on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury.
Bad example:
Justin Vernon cooks me a 12 course farm to table dinner then sings softly to me while I eat.

George Clinton and Pfunk - Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. It is their stomping grounds and since they are from Plainfield, it is one of, if not the first actual place they played that is considered a legitimate venue.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.
Rage Against the Machine at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum Radiohead at the Hollywood Bowl The Smiths at Wembley Stadium New Order at Bonnaroo Late Night
Coachella was probably the better Jay-Z show anyways. To this day that was probably the best rap show I ever caught. Even Beyoncé seemed surprised by the reaction the audience gave her dude that night - I have no idea if it was better actually but standing by it.
Speaking of Indio, anything Josh Homme in Palm Desert is gold. That Them Crooked Vultures set in 2010 was a near religious experience.

Where is that and is it special for Tool for any other reason than it's small?
Tabernacle in Atlanta. First show of Lateralus tour.
that's so weird I had to double check you. They played the Tabernacle 5/15/2001, then played the Philips Arena 5 months later on 10/12/2001 (Philips Arena was my first Tool show).
I'd contribute to this thread but it'd just be me mentioning Phish at various venues.

There were 4 shows I think in the small venues. Tabernacle was the first. In Oct. that year I saw them in Charlotte.

Wow, I can not contribute to this at all.
D'Angelo/Questlove Superjam was pretty special. Seeing them play together with the Soulquarians and essentially go through a history of rock and funk.
Wasn't there, but I imagine Sigur Ros closing Outdoor at Coachella was exceptional.
I think the most important thing is to see an artist when they're still hungry. Before they get in a routine of playing the same shit over and over. You can tell when people are going through the motions versus really feeling the crowds energy and feeding off of it.
This has turned into people listing shows that have already happened, but I'm pretty are it was initially supposed to be a hypothetical situation type of thing. Like, IF (insert band) played (insert venue) it would be the perfect show.
That being said, I believe the upcoming FLips Soft Bulletin show at Red Rocks is just about as close to perfect as it gets for me. Though, it would've been amazing to see the b2b nights they did at the Hollywood Cemetery with Soft Bulletin and DSotM
