Curious what other music fans think of this show so far? We are about 5-6 episodes in.
Despite the following caveats:
-Yes, the show could use some editing, the hour episodes should be 45-50 minutes -Yes, the show benefits greatly from 20/20 hindsight regarding the future of music (look its punk rock and record execs don't understand it! check out this Kool Herc spinning records for the old folks, nothing will come out of that!) -Yes, the drug use is totally insane and could be perceived as glorification -Yes, the somewhat random tangents to a classic musician singing a song could be perceived as needlessly artistic
Still, I think the show is AWESOME. Bobby Cannavale is amazing. Ray Romano is amazing. All the supporting cast is amazing. The music is all amazing. All the characters feel very alive and real. The story moves a little slowly but the directors do a great job of ending every episode leaving me craving more.
For music nerds this show is like a big greasy bacon cheeseburger. Maybe a little heavy handed at times but so satisfying and delicious, and leaves you feeling stuffed and exhausted.
I have enjoyed it. I didn't like the first episode but it got much better after that... the episode on David Bowie (no spoiler... this has been in the media outlets a lot) was one of the best episodes I've seen in awhile. I really like Jagger's son as the lead singer in the punk band, too. I think some storylines are hits and some are misses.

Agreed it started out slow, took us a few days to pick it back up after the first episode. Having said that I also agree not all the storylines work.
The Bowie episode is the one we just finished last night. really outstanding episode of television.
Was not aware that was mick jagger's son, that's cool! the nasty bits, I'd go see them play a show for sure.
I did zero research going into the show, I knew nothing other than Bobby Cannavale, Scorcese, and Mick Jagger. Haven't read any critics' reviews either.
I watched the first two episodes a couple weeks ago, and didn't have enough interest to watch the third yet. I felt like murdering that radio dj was kind of random and unnecessary. Made it seem like it was some kind of Goodfellas rehash.
