In a red carpet interview with FXM, Donald Glover and the cast of “Atlanta” discussed the upcoming hip-hop television series.
“It’s the show I always wanted to see on television,” Glover, who makes music under the name Childish Gambino, said. “It’s easier to comment on what’s happening on TV. TV shows are like novels now, you have to invest in them.”
Isiah Whitlock Jr., who plays Glover’s father, said, “It’s about truth. It’s about life. Even though it is a show for rappers, there’s a lot of truth, a lot of life to it.”
The semi-autobiographical show is about Earnest “Earn” Marks (Glover), who returns home to the ATL for a second shot at a music career after his cousin’s music video goes viral.
After leaving the NBC sitcom “Community” to pursue his burgeoning music career, Glover earned two Grammy nominations and has also starred in big Hollywood movies like “The Martian” and “Magic Mike XL.”
The 10-episode series is set to premiere on FX this summer.
