Why do we deserve this? Just because we would like a musical artist with some tiny semblance of talent? How dare we!
By that I mean that this board is so pessimistic of most EDM, and specifically its sub-genres. The majority is discarded as simply "molly-munching" music, while I can't disagree with most, its music nonetheless. My first ever concert was front row Springsteen, I've played any studied piano/saxophone all my life, and I am open to all music form Arcade Fire to the Beijing Opera. However I can also secretly head bang to Getter while understanding the irony. His "music" as most would call it, is a roughly organized compilation of of weird noises, which is still different from anything on the radio. Idk maybe its just me but I don't see something "weird" as trash, I just see it as different. It's funny because it couldn't be more of a slap in the face to someone to keeps their chin up to such music.

Weird is Frank Zappa, and Getter is no Frank Zappa.

Art is in the eye of the beholder. I've looked at a white canvas with a red roller stripe down the middle and cracked up. Doesn't mean it's not art. Just means I don't get it. Or want it hanging in my living room. And I would hope the museum would have something better to offer me for my money.
Same thing here.
There are a lot of artists that I enjoy that this board laughs at. Does not insult me at all.

I agree. The irony though lies when an artist expects that reaction to the canvas.
I just get disappointed by people who refuse to look at it in the first place. No hard feelings just trying to encourage a broader mindset.

Hey, I tried the throat singer chick. That was my quota for the year.
Not that I really mind it. Just never heard of him until today. Gives me flash backs of a good (I think) night at Voodoo fest listening to girl talk a few years back.
I just cant help but think of a strung out Mac Miller every time I see him. I don't know anything about getter but Cracked out Mac Miller will always be my first impression.

So you're saying you're supposed to like this ironically.

I like both Getter and Girl Talk, but if I'm forced to choose between them, I'm picking Girl Talk every time. Last time I saw GT was 2011 on the Farm and probably one of my favorite sets from that year.

Agreed. I would love if Girl Talk would make an appearance. Haven't heard anything about the dude though in a few years. I think mashups have pretty much died.
Shit, I was really with this Getter fellow till I reached the part at the utlra set where he asks if everyone loves Shrek, and proceeds into a Smash Mouth song.
So you're saying you're supposed to like this ironically.
Find whatever reason you want to like or dislike music, it just helps to understand it.
The irony here is youre trying to encourage people to "broaden their horizons" or whatever but if you actually listened to a wide range of electronic music you'd realize how generic and uninspired this Getter guy is
What is there to understand? He's just another guy who heard Skrillex as a teenager and wanted to get famous too

You're full of it, and obviously don't read much here if you think this forum is pessimistic about electronic music.
There's just pessimism towards garbage dubstep/trap/boring as fuck generic DJs who literally have no creative spirit, decent message or desire to push the envelope, and just waste space on what used to be one of the best festivals in the United States. I could care less if you're an expert on pan flute craftsmanship in the southern region of Peru, that doesn't make me even slightly consider this act to be anything more than total trash.
He sounds akin to what I would imagine would happen if Skrillex gave his twelve year old brother the stems to all of his tracks and just let him put them together for his own use so that he could impress twelve year olds at the middle school dance.
This is honestly the worst way to start the Clues I could have imagined.
I'm ready for this festival to disappear. If we're moving on to acts like The Chainsmokers, Sam Hunt, Post Malone and Getter being regular appearances, I'm over it.

10 outta 10 times, would rather listen to Ross's keyboarding than Getter.
Considering you've found the need to respond to my threads as if you are threatened by me I offer you some peace my confused counterpart. May you find peace in your restless soul.

Alright if you wanna get specific I'll play. While Getter's music may be generic in the sense that all Trap and Dubstep is generic, you can hear songs that he produced being played at almost any festival involving EDM in the past couple years. If you don't even know who "this Getter guy is" than I already know that you have no concept of the genre of music that he's involved with. He's 23 and Skrillex is 27 so I don't know how that really correlates, but I can respect any 23 year old who can create music he/she likes and amass enough of a following to tour world-wide.

Calling you out on that second sentence.
I guarantee you that isn't true. Also, not all trap and dubstep is generic. You're also making a facetious argument that not knowing a pretty inconsequential DJ undermines anyone's argument that he sucks, which isn't true at all.
This dude's live sets are the equivalent of any random local club DJ these days that caters towards white kids.
