Jesus Walks
First off, can't believe the final came down to two number one seeds. Doesn't seem very Inforoo-esque if you ask me. I think there are definitely other songs that could have made it here. I also feel like some people are picking based on how epic the music video was for Runaway. Don't get me wrong, it is amazing, but I feel like just as a song, he has better ones.
P.S. I am still mad that Bound 2 wasn't even in this.

You can't believe that people consider two of Kanye's best songs to be two of his best songs? I mean I'm not even a huge fan of Runaway but I'm glad that people didn't vote for lower-seeded songs just show a hipster preference for deeper cuts. Jesus Walks is an excellent song and absolutely deserves to have gone this far.

If someone in the future, say, 40 years from now, were to make a playlist of the most prolific musicians of the 21st century and it only included 1 song from these artists, Runaway would make way more sense than Jesus Walks to be on that album. Jesus Walks is dope but it's not really much you could go off in terms of conversation about Kanye. If Runaway was on there, you could make points about his relationships with fame, Amber Rose/Kim K, his mom, his children, the music video, etc., off of that song. It's gotta be Runaway.

His relationship with fame is touched on, his relationship with being a wealthy black male in a town where black males are oppressed is touched on, his relationship with the media is touched on, societies relationship with religion is touched on, his relationship with religion, which is a big part of him rn honestly. Jesus Walks definitely sets the stage for parts of Pablo in that way. Also all three videos are dope. It comes out the same time as the war in Afghanistan/Iraq is really picking up and reflects that, on a level that's more than being a reply to the Taylor Swift thing. I think that JW is a pretty great representation of the last decade or so in hip hop, especially with someone like Chance blowing up right now.

If someone had never heard of Kanye and listened to Runaway 50 years from now, I imagine they would say something like, "That was a fairly catchy song. This kanye guy was a pretty meh singer and rapper though. Not much in the tank lyrically, that's for sure. However, that guy in the middle sounded awesome...I kinda wish it was just him rapping throughout. The vocoder solo stuff at the end was cool and interesting on first listen, but I probably won't sit through it very often. Overall I like the song but it seems a bit messy."
I don't think it's prudent to turn liking one song more than another into thinking one song is great and the other is trash or even mediocre. Both of these songs are really great, and I like them both a lot. Jesus Walks makes me tear up at least half the times I listen to it, in particular at the spins/ends/sins part. I just like Runaway better overall. Seems weird to be a Kanye fan and argue that Runaway is nothing special.
Although, I did something similar with Idioteque in the Radiohead thing, so fuck me.

You answered this pretty will with your Radiohead comment. Just because I'm a fan of an artist doesn't mean I need to like every song that is considered good by everyone else.
Also, I like Runaway. I just think people get caught up in all of the theatrics surrounding that song. And it almost seems like taking an interest in Kanye the person helps that song along. Runaway and the first performance of it would prob mean much more to me if I gave shit about Kanye's personal life.
For me, just as a fan of his music and hip-hop in general, Power was a far greater moment. Coming off of 808s and a verse or two on Blueprint 3, I wasn't sure how all-out rapping Kanye would sound again. I was kind of skeptical to be honest. Then I just remember hearing him on that for the first time, absolutely destroying shit over his hardest beat ever. That was a statement for me. And the breakdown at the end of Power is much more enjoyable than the last however many minutes of Runaway as a side note.
Opinions and all that.
EDIT: I realize Power isn't quite Kanye's beat, but whatever

Don't get me wrong, I think they are both really good songs. Jesus Walks might even be my all time favorite of his. But from the amount of hate I see on Kanye and how much it seems like people on here dislike to go with the flow, I was surprised to see them both make it to the end. I voted for a lot of low seeds the whole time because I genuinely thought them to be better than what they were up against.
