I honestly don’t know if second market will tank because it doesn’t appear like anyone is really buying tickets due to zero hype.
Given the high price point for the lowest price tickets, there's no chance scalpers even sniffed this event either, which would have been the other route for a late glut of cheap tickets.
I really think GV just completely whiffed on estimating demand for this type of lineup relative to the high price point they're trying to achieve.
Even with hotel and housing costs being a little bit more reasonable than Coachella, the total cost to attend is just absurdly higher than the demo for this lineup is accustomed to paying.
I would not be surprised in the least if we get to Aug/Sep and they have to consider cancelling and cutting the losses because all indications are that ticket sales and media hype/buzz are largely non-existent.
I feel they expected the Gen X and metal crowd to be like the boomers who went to the first DT and shell out stupid money when that demo really doesn’t do that. Metal fans are really against high prices with some exceptions (Metallica fans). Even Maiden GA is only like $150 when they tour.
If this is similar to DT, how far back will the cheapest tickets (GA) be? I was thinking maybe back even with the end of the beer garden but before the tree line/hill in the Coachella setup.
The back of GA was quite far from the stage at DT. As I recall, the stage was set up kind of where the Indio Market is, though that's been pushed back further since then. The back of GA was by the beer gardens next to where the main stage is. You're pretty much just watching the screens from back there, with some ant-sized people on stage.

Almost seems like, taking into account the ticket price + lodging + travel, it would be cheaper to fly over to Hellfest in France.
Not to mention the fact that a.) most of these acts tour regularly and b.) there are now a plethora of large metal/hard rock festivals (esp. w/r/t Danny Wimmer Presents) that are a much better deal.
Seems like, all in all, whoever put this festival together did not read the room re: the festival market in the US today.

Its also a big possibility that the final line up is sloppy seconds to what PT had in mind originally. Guess Black Sabbath one off last show ever was to take place instead of Ozzy solo and someone was originally in Tool's place I think.
Also, this is all just a reflection of GV investing more and more into location, and on the corporate side of things, its just not enough to only have 3 weekends per year there. They need more content / festivals there.

This all sounds eerily similar to all the fuss and worry about Coachella not selling well this year, only to find out the exact opposite afterwards and realize we all have no fucking clue what we're talking about.

c) most metal fans dont want to be in fucking seats
maybe for bands like ac/dc and guns and roses, but almost no maiden/ozzy/tool/metallica show has seats on the floor. im convinced this would be "sold out" at this point if they had just kept it closer to the big 4 format. folks are realizing $600 for GA to be miles away from the stage is a joke
Testament/Kreator/Posessed 10.26 David Gilmour 10.30 King Gizzard 11.3 The Blood Brothers 11.8 Blood Incantation 11.12 Mayhem 11.21 Interpol & The Walkmen 11.23 70K Tons Of Metal 2025 Sick New World 2025 Maryland Deathfest 2025
I got a survey from them today asking why I didn't purchase tickets after showing interest. Guessing they wouldn't have sent that out if it was selling well.
Maybe they'll do like Re:Set and put out a discount code offer.

Hate to tell people who have thrown festivals for decades how to do it but I don’t get why they didn’t add 6 up and coming openers per day. You’re praying that someone is a HUGE fan of at least 4 of the acts and hasn’t seen them recently. Putting a lot of faith in that.

It’s funnier because there’s a TON of other successful metal festivals in the US (and of course, Europe) currently that you could use as a blueprint. GV has the resources and connections to easily do a Hellfest in the states but opted to do this instead.
If Metallica, Tool and GnR werent extensively touring or hitting the circuit this year then they wouldnt be having trouble shifting tickets. Whenever single days pop up theyll get a small boost.

the majority of tool shows have seated floor, Ozzy plays seated floor venues frequently, maybe maiden doesn't but they also half sold arenas on their last tour so they might as well have so that the floor would've looked full.

Far GA tickets holders can be a mile from the stage to stare at Adams CGI screensaver videos while hearing TOOL music. Dylan is usually allergic to any video and GV got him to lift it for some wonky angle B&W live images with some old-timey public domain video mixed in.
Advertising ACDC and Ozzy as 2023 US or Global exclusives would help things.

I feel like the GA section will be a lot closer for this. It’s not the same size as Desert Trip, not aimed at the same crowd that goes to parking lot metal festivals

I was in the back GA area during Desert Trip and loved it. The sound was great and the visual presentation added a lot to each performance, especially Roger Waters. If Power Trip is anything like that, it really doesn’t matter where you sit - although I’m not paying $600 for this line up.
