I really don't see any late adds at all other than the standard punk/DJ/friends of festival type slots to open up stages at 12:00.
The only thing I can see is if Pixies pull a 2014 but even then, think the tour dates were likely because Weezer was the act Coachella was gunning for, not Pixies.

We're comically short on acts for some of these days though. They'd have to add 14 acts on Sunday to reach parity with last year, and they generally only do ~7 of the adds you're talking about. It's a fool's errand to expect specific adds, but I would be pretty surprised if we don't have some combination of adds + acts changing days. Either that or we're gonna have some weird gaps and/or long sets this year.

As Mikey pointed out though, Sunday 2017 only had 50 acts also. I didn't believe him at first because I remember Sunday having a shit ton going on during the headliners vs last year with 56, but I counted and he was right. This is not a trend I love (expanding the grounds and capacity but reducing acts) but I do think we're headed for 50 poster acts on Sunday this year with no adds. Unlike last year where I had some big must sees but not a lot during day (especially on Sunday, yeeeeesh what a mess last Sunday's lineup was for me) I am prepping myself to be swamped with conflicts each day of the festival, so I don't necessarily need late adds.

2017 Sunday also had two major late adds (Skepta + TSOL) - if you're using that as a comparison, it suggests we'll get late adds. That day also had The Belleville Three getting over two hours and a three hour period on the Outdoor with only one act performing (plus massive gaps on the main to accommodate that act). We have nothing like that this year.

It was 50 even with Skepta/TSOL. I mean you're right about Belleville Three though. My theory is that Kanye was set to go virtually unopposed like Beyonce. I'm super down to see Ariana but still hope some solid counter programming gets thrown in the mix.

1. I count 51 after the adds: 2. The Belleville/Zimmer schedulings essentially account for another 2-3 acts on their own (1 additional Yuma + 1-2 main/outdoor) 3. Given they didn't even have a signed contract with Kanye, I find it hard to imagine they'd already planned how they'd schedule the day around him. But let's assume they did book Beyonce to go unopposed + were going to book Kanye in the same way - that would mean they intended Beyonce to go virtually unopposed when booking her in 2017 too, yet they had plenty of Gaga counter-programming. Which would mean Ariana could easily have plenty of counter programming.
If, say, Aphex Twin were Sunday, the lower number of acts might make sense (he could be a combination Belleville/Zimmer situation with a super long set and large gaps in set times to accommodate him). But there's nobody on this day right now that fits the bill.

I think Gessafelstein and Cirez D will get extended sets. I’m trying to confirm if Jan Blomqvist is indeed playing a live set or just a DJ set in the Yuma. He’s being billed differently on other posters when it’s a live set. For example, LIB he’s billed as Jan Blomqvist and Band.

I don't think Gesa will get an extended set, but I do think Blomqvist will be in the Yuma.

Gessa got 75 minutes in 2015 so I assume he’d get the same this year. Especially if he closes the Outdoor.

he's playing live per his website. he's not going to be in the Yuma.

It was 51 for a hot second but then Hannah Wants dropped and was put on the 2018 poster instead. So 50. This was the final Sunday 2017 lineup:
I'm with you on points 2 and 3. But every year we have a "very solid" argument for why we're getting Late Adds and we usually don't get any. They made 50 work before and they're cheap LOL. So I think we're only getting what we have.

I think some years it's more likely than others. In 2014, we got Pixies, Julian Casablancas, and Courtney Barnett. In 2017, we got DRAM, Skepta, and the Sonora. This year, sales were seemingly down (stubhub prices are surprisingly low right now) and the fest has ostensibly saved a lot of money on headliners. It's a fool's errand to ever expect late adds, but they would hardly be surprising this year.

Keep talking that sweet talk, Braun. Call me Fox Mulder because I want to believe. I forgot about Barnett. I'm happy to go full blown tinfoil hat mode with you because I agree, this year needs the #s and while I fucking LOVE the lineup, it's clear it's left people cold. I just end up expecting late adds every year and am always disappointed.
I would LOVE to see them add Confidence Man. I can't believe they're not on the lineup TBH and they're playing The Echo (alas not a GV venue) the Wednesday after Coachella (their only US date as of now). That seems like a very easy snag for an act that would fucking DESTROY in the Gobi.
I would also LOVE to see them add some acts from Just Like Heaven. YYYs is probably too big but The Rapture or The Faint would melt my cold little Irish heart.
Then again The Rapture and Confidence Man are hardly acts that would move the needle if what they're worried about is weak secondary market.

Keep going?? Sure!
1) Few of the late adds move the needle for that year - I don’t think that would be a huge factor
2) There *is* value for the following year - it says to a potential attendee who is disappointed by the lineup: “you never know, maybe more great acts are on the way.”
Yes yes yes this is all a relative pipe dream but to be honest, there’s not a good explanation for any of the late adds since 2008.
I’m also really curious if Just Like Heaven affects booking next year. That thing has been an incredibly hot ticket. Hopefully GV sees more value in bringing those kinds of acts to Coachella.

So what I should take away from this is that Confidence Man is definitely getting added right

Hey remember when the wild success of Desert Trip convinced GV to book more classic rock at Coachella?
I know this is a joke but most of those acts had already been booked or were supposed to have been booked (who/stones cancelations) and there weren’t many classic rock acts left that Coachella might care about after that. There’s a reason we haven’t seen a DT2. Did anyone actually think DT would lead to more and not fewer classic rock bookings at Coachella?
Conversely every JLH act makes sense as a Coachella booking any time they tour, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a number of them there next year after releasing albums.

I’m slowly realizing I’m getting to see every single act that was omitted from this lineup locally. They did a good job at getting acts that aren’t touring all over this year on the lower lines. Btw was Imogen Heap a late add last time? Does she still not have an LA date?

She doesn’t, as far as I know. Her tour lines her up pretty well to play Arroyo Seco, though that seems like an odd fit.
