Assuming I get on the flight, I'll be in NYC 27+28. I've done all the tourtisty stuff but I've never been without parents so if anyone has reccs for fun stuff, pls lmk. Me and my gf are underage so no bars (unless they're lenient lol).
We're planning to do a Broadway show, Chinatown and Central Park but want something for the night time that won't break the bank so recommended shows/venues would help a lot. Thanks!
I also recommend Jersey Boys but my friend isn't playing in it anymore so it isn't as strong a push as it would have been a few years ago lol

My girlfriend pretty much has her heart set on Beetlejuice.

I ate at Spicy Village in Chinatown last week, and the food was excellent and relatively cheap.
In addition, check out donyc.com for concert recommendations that night. Furthermore, the Sex Museum near Madison Square Park is really fun to do as a couple, and is also open at night.
Went to the Rooftop at Pier 17 for the first time last night, I liked the space and that they didn't overpack it (the show was sold out). Gorgeous environment on a perfect night last night. They could do with fixing the layout at the entry though, it caused an annoying backup at security. Anyway, i was there for James, who were great as always, and Tim Booth is very interactive with the audience. Never a big fan of The Psychedelic Furs, but they were enjoyable too and have held up well musically.
Ah, sorry I didn’t run into you! My first time there, too, and I second everything you said. I loved that it didn’t feel oversold, and the Brooklyn Bridge as a stage backdrop was stunning. I’d never seen James before, and they were the highlight, for me - the new material sounded great, and the classics held up like crazy. My peak moments were the “Many Faces” sing-along and “Just Like Fred Astaire,” which soundtracked one of the great unrequited loves of my youth.
I have to admit, I didn’t really dig The Psychedelic Furs. I love their music, but the energy of the show just felt weird, and Richard Butler’s antics were a bit of a turn-off (onanism during “Pretty in Pink?” Why?). They’re legends and I’m not sorry I saw them...but I don’t think I need to see them again.
Janelle Monae in that venue is going to be something special if we get a good night, weather-wise.
I stood outside the Green zone for the first few of James' set but then my pal with knees that are 10x in worse shape than mine came and had ADA so I was sitting in there with her. Really great spot to see the show though and it preserved my knees as well! I thought I had seen Butler do that during PiP but thought my eyes might have been deceiving, definite turn off. He didn't seem that awkward while watching the show but looking at video afterwards it did seem his movements were a bit awkward.
I will be back at the end of August for Trombone Shorty, looking forward to coming back if the weather is good. At least it's fast to shelter if the weather does turn ominous.

I am shocked that The Struts sold out Pier 17. Got a ticket for about face value second-hand but figured they couldn't fill a 4k capacity place. Also shocked that Papa Roach is still (?) big enough to play the same venue.

There's also a few Barcade locations. Old school arcade games using tokens with bar/food. Definitely cheap but a good way to kill an hour or two before shows.

You know, my love of live music is in part about pursuit of singular experiences, and I have to say I have never had an experience quite as singular as being a straight man in his 40s, alone and totally sober, in GA at a Carly Rae Jepsen concert. :-) Amazing. She crushed it, too.
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?
UPCOMING SHOWS 4/4 - Young Fathers @ Brooklyn Steel 5/14 - Neil Young & Crazy Horse @ Forest Hills Stadium 8/17 - King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard @ Forest Hills Stadium 9/4 - Pearl Jam @ MSG 9/7 - Pearl Jam @ Wells Fargo Center 9/13 - The War on Drugs/The National @ Forest Hills Stadium

this excites me for tonight. Totally forgot my friend got us tickets back during finals lol.
No new Tame Impala in time for the MSG shows but should still be a good time. Impressive that Kevin can do two nights there without much new product in the marketplace but I suppose there are enough people who got into the band due to various collabs/shout-outs in the past 2 years that warrant the two nights.
Anyone else think Bon Iver will add another night at Barclays or somewhere else in the area? Bunch of open nights after the date.

I think they anticipated a second night for Bon Iver, but the first night still hasn't sold out.
So, do those bleachers at Forest Hills just turn to skillets in a heat wave? Think I might nab some cheap Weird Al tickets off stubhub, and if worst comes to worst I can just stand through it, but my gf prefers sitting.

I selfishly am hoping they add a second night so I can grab good seats for that night or good seats for night 1 cheaper. I assumed announcing a new album would do the trick but guess not.

Might try for a stubhub ticket to Weird Al in Forest Hills tomorrow. Depending on the price I'd love to see that show. Will see how I'm feeling in the afternoon.
Unless it's not happening this year (although from what little I've picked up it will be) we should be hearing about this year's Global Citizen fest later this week or next. Wonder if they are going to change the lineup formula back to how it used to be, after last year's panic. BTW, I am betting Panic! at the Disco will be part of it this year (because Brendon Urie is an ambassador of a climate group partnering with GC this year, although the irony is there too).

What was the "panic" you refer to from last year? Been to this event twice and, honestly, it just isn't worth it. Shortened sets, no way to leave your spot once you get there (even in the VIP area) and way too much lecturing for me to deal with even if I support/agree with 99% of the causes they're talking about. It should be a ticketed event of some sort with lower capacity and have at least hour-long sets for each act.
