People here are kind of making it sound like that not enjoying rap = being offended by rap (or being “scared off” lol). I don’t like 90% of rap that I’ve listened to. It’s just not my style. I totally respect it and even think it has a place at Newport. But if you’re going to host a folk-based festival and then make the headliner a rap artist after people have already bought their tickets... well, it’s pretty misguided. I just wanted to stress that I think people being disappointed by an unexciting line up isn’t closed-minded. Being rude or offensive to the artists involved certainly is. But people saying “damn, this isn’t what I wanted to see” are just being honest. Like I said, not even being much of a fan, I’d still probably enjoy seeing Chance. At least if the rest of the day was more appealing. As it stands, I feel like I bought a 3-day ticket for 2 days of worthwhile acts. Which is just making this festival feel more and more like a weak choice compared to alternatives

Beck, Jack White, and Flight of the Conchords aren't straight up folk acts either and we're announced for a folk fest after people bought tickets. I do t see much different with booking Chance. It's not exactly "folk" but it can be made to fit the same vibe and spread the same messages.
If you don't like the specific artist or genre that's fine. But I don't think NFF is being crazy or risking the future of the festival if they book a few hip hop or r&b acts.
Not sure what this does for anyone’s expectations but I was curious.

2016's final 5 tho...
Graham Nash Ryan Adams w/ The Infamous Stringdusters Elvis Costello Alabama Shakes Patti Smith
Hoping for some announcements like that. In my opinion, this is the most diverse, yet weakest lineup in my 6 years going. Something has to be up Jay’s sleeve.

I agree with some of this. But I feel like Bon Iver will Be in there.

Would love this lineup. That being said, I can't see them having an open slot where they could put boygenius without knocking someone out that they had already agreed to. I think more likely would be Lucy Dacus having boygenius join her. And/or having Better Oblivion instead of boygenius.

Not that anyone is asking for it, but they have my permission to shuffle EB the Younger into the Museum Stage to make a spot for boygenius on a main stage.

“I imagine it was the same for the Newport Folk Festival. You could have gone there to celebrate your 60th anniversary.”
“It changed so drastically that it wasn’t even the pretense of trying to be what it was at the beginning. It was new acts … I think nobody was pretending. I remember going back at one point and the Indigo Girls were there. Well, that’s a whole new world.”
Well that explains her absence on this farewell tour that is ending on 7/28 in Spain...
This makes me happier than a pig in shit! This is going to be an awesome set, and I almost guarantee you guys that he'll be a prominent guest during the Phil Lesh set.

Can imagine Lukas Nelson, Benmont Tench, Warren Haynes, and Phil Lesh as one long extended set on the quad stage where they all come and go throughout each others sets.
