I have a weird feeling were going to get Tool and it'll balance out 2 "softer" headliners (genre wise not in terms of draw). Like Taylor Swift and Elton, or Rihanna and a weird Bon Iver/Frank/VW co-headline. Just a thought.

Just caught a Foxing set and am reminded how it is an absolute scam they haven’t played the Sonora yet.
They're not my favorite band of the current emo scene (though I do love them), but they're for sure on another level live from the rest of them. They're pretty incredible live. If they're not playing next year, I'd really hope it's because they said no, not because they weren't offered.

Given Miley's recent festival appearances, I can't help but feel like she's an obvious 2019 headliner that we are overlooking. Her festival show is pretty damn good.
Her last tour isn't really an accurate indication of her popularity, since for Dead Petz she chose to play in smaller venues (even if that was the smarter decision, which is debatable). But she's billed high enough at other fests to be a reasonable headliner choice.

Saw her at Glastonbury. Fun show but not a headliner.

Agreed. She was only booked as a headliner at Tinderbox, and a replacement at another. Primavera she shared a top line with 2 others, and Glasto she was 8. Fun show but not a headliner.

You can argue this either way you want.
Her popularity stateside is undeniably bigger than overseas (not to mention she’s booked over artists we have argued here are potential headliners for Coachella) so while the only precedent we have at the moment it’s not a 1:1. She’s also undeniably bigger than most subs the past couple years, and would easily draw the Coachella crowd.
She also hasn’t had a megahit in 5 or so years - Albeit Malibu did great, Nothing Breaks Like a Heart was relatively big and Mother’s Daughter did okay. And her recent EP didn’t go very far.
A strong sub would be nice, but I don’t think anyone should be surprised if she gets booked as a headliner with her new album on the way.
I didn't realize Malibu was so big but it has more plays than any of her other songs on spotify other than We Can't Stop which it's barely behind. Slide Away the song she just dropped is good.
Also, her voice live (and recorded too FWIW) is pretty mediocre. She actually has a great voice for punkier/screamier songs, but not for anything halfway melodic. Not that this particularly matters for her theoretical billing.

Will Tool lift their "no screen video/stream" rule for Coachella? Jeff Mangum/NMH might have been the last act that got that from the Festival.
Maynard let them stream some APC shows including Coachella and they also recently gave into to streaming.
I mentioned this on the old Coachella forum that my dream would be a 3 hour NIN->Tool show where the production blends seamlessly. Trent did this in the past with Bowie and the TV award thing with QOTSA. Plus it would separate it from the gazillion inevitable Tool arena shows.
Nobody played from last years lineup I believe besides Diplo. I wonder what this means for Skrillex or if we get Dog Blood or just no Skrillex
I thought Louis the Child could be back with their debut album, but they have been here a lot lately
Sofi Tukker and Nora En Pure played too. That lineup has zero implication on Coachella.
You're right looking back at it
Just wish we were getting some more info on whose in and whose out.
Some guy on FB group is saying JT is confirmed, and headliners locked in. 20M open offer for Daft Punk in future. And 115M offer for the Smiths (maybe includes long tour if that number is correct?).
Either he is trolling or mistaken, but hes an active poster on there, not just a random. He is defending his points though
There was a smiths reunion tour offer rumor in 2007 for $75 million. With inflation and years going by, 115M may make sense for Coachella and a long multi leg tour
But here’s to hoping he was lying/given wrong info on JT headlining
With Ariana bringing out N'Sync last year, it really does leave you to wonder if JT is going to be booked this year.
I guess he could bring out Nelly Furtado and Timbaland instead as previous reports stated last year but it seems like a missed opportunity. (beyonce brought out destiny's child)
Think we get something to bring in more of the younger crowd with the presales not going quickly and weekend 2 struggling last year.

I highly doubt JT, or anyone really, would or wouldn't be booked based on the expectation of which surprise guest they are bringing out.
I have absolutely 0 interest in Ed Sheeran, but I have no clue if that would actually work for Coachella as a headliner.
Is he interesting enough of a booking for the masses to want to attend to see? I know he's like one of the most listened to artists in the world, but do people actually care enough about him to want to see him perform?
I think Morrissey has ruined any chance of The Smiths reuniting for Coachella.
I would agree but Kanye has massively divisive politics and they were going to book him so.......
Daft Punk and The Smiths have an open offer pretty much every year since forever. It's pretty much common knowledge that they would always be welcome, I'm sure the price fluctuates year to year but the offer stands. I'm skeptical about JT, but if this guy says they are locked in and that's true, then we should get a real leak soon. That being said, highly doubt he has any real information.
Morrissey is much worse than Kanye. Kanye is just a mushbrained “free thinker” who loves everyone, Moz literally supports Nazis.
Oh Moz is absolutely worse as he actually believes this stuff, and is unapologetic with no signs of internal conflict, and shows no signs of stopping.
That being said, in terms of # of news headlines about their behavior (which IMO GV cares more about than reality), Kanye takes the cake. Media attention on Kanye's descent into Trump Frump was pretty damn high.
If the rumors about GV offering to change some festival logistics for The Smiths are true (make most food vegan, donate/support Morrissey's weird causes), what the hell does that look like in 2019?
