not US related, but Sadiq Khan probably the most left London Mayor ever is now very live to be upset by the conservatives due to the Palestine/Israel war
I guess I don't understand British politics enough, but how is he under threat considering the Tories got blown out of the water in the local elections and Sunak is likely out if there is a general election soon? Is London full of NIMBYs?
Follow up, Khan won by 10% which is what was projected. Brexit was the Canary in the coal mine for how America's election in 2016 went, so I am taking these results as a good sign for 2024.

Generally good results for Labour across the board, and the general consensus is that this signals conservatives are going to lose control of the government on a national level, soon. 🤞
Do you want to dance while also thinking about all the ways you've failed as a human?

I didn't argue it's the morally right thing to not vote for him. You're putting words in people's mouths again. I have no interest in arguing I'm doing the objectively moral thing and others aren't. That does nothing for me. I said "on moral reasons." Speaking for myself, my morals, ideology and worldview. I don't actually think my single vote is all that precious but there's nothing in me that can cast a vote that in any way condones this administration. I'm not a Democrat. I do not owe the Democrats a goddamn thing.
I'm fine with you not liking that or agreeing with it. Just as I'm fine with you voting for Biden. Although I don't think many liberals are actually very good at arguing for him. I've voted the lesser of two evils plenty. I didn't vote for Biden in 2020. I have a long list of reasons for despising this motherfucker. I did vote for Warnock and Ossoff... in the runoffs and everything. Not doing it anymore. I have zero faith the Dems have what it takes to stop what is coming. I'm done wasting my time.
Whether you vote for him, against him, or abstain, you’re having an impact on the election. And if your morals are such that they don’t allow you to vote for Biden, they do allow you to give Trump a slight leg up by not voting.
I’ve spent many pixels in this thread explicitly offering a case for Biden as a valid vote in and of itself, not just as an anti-Trump vote, and would be happy to do so again. As I’ve said repeatedly, his response to Israel is easily the thing I’ve been most disappointed in him over. But abstaining in and of itself has repercussions, and it feels like you’re not considering the morality of those repercussions, simply the morality of voting for Biden. You’re banking on those repercussions not coming to fruition so you can feel good that you didn’t offer your vote to Biden.
I appreciate where you are coming from and I do 100% believe that voting is important. There are plenty of good philosophical and strategic arguments for it. However, your argument here relies on me being the decisive vote. Even in a swing state the odds of that happening are 1 and 10 million according to terrible pundit and good(?) math nerd Nate Silver.
So no, I'm not banking on anything just to feel good about my choices. lmao. I don't feel good about any of this. Any time Biden argues for sending more aid to Israel I don't pat myself on the back and congratulate myself for not voting for the son of a bitch. I just get angry that we are stuck with all these pieces of filth running the world. Like I said, I have plenty of reasons to dislike him and his party. I also do not owe them my vote.
I'm not going to be made to feel I need to consider voting for the genocide enabler more carefully. That's not going to happen. There are no repercussions for me not casting a ballot. I'm not going to feel guilty or worry if me not voting will turn the election. Cause it won't.
And if it did. It wouldn't be my fault. That would fall on one of the biggest political organizations in the world that somehow loses to a reality TV clown for a second time.
Edit: As to you making the case for him. I was more talking about liberals, in general, being smug and patronizing to people. Not really anything to do with the merits of your political analysis.

As if this wasnt obvious if you're paying attention but it's laid out here. The lies are getting worse as they try to find the right words to weasel their way around things. The lies about how all these young kids are just seeing photos and being overwhelmed with emotions but not understanding history or context or facts is just ridiculous and then Romney let's the cat out of the bag about why they really are attacking tiktok
Now, even more insane to me is why does Romney seem so upset and annoyed that "the PR is bad" from Israel. Absolutely no thought or mention about what they are actively doing and their actions but just why aren't they controlling the narrative better than they used to be able to?
That seems to be a common trend among a lot of these stories lately. The crumbling of the remaining credibility of mainstream media as they try to manipulate the stories into how they want them presented instead of just presenting the facts. The technology allows us to see past that and that's one reason they want control of the Internet. It's where the information flows
The only hope I have left is the Napster effect of banning tiktok. File sharing didn't die with Napster, it exploded when it shut down.
Off topic, but I actually liked KaZaa more than Napster. But once they started clamping down on them, every subsequent file sharing I attempted was malware and viruses. Like 90% shit rate. Especially LimeWire. But that was probably user error
And Romney’s insane point, the PR would have been as bad for basically every war in history if live-streaming and social media existed then as it does now. All wars are bad

I mean - my understanding has been that a big part of public opinion turning against the Vietnam War was driven by television depicting the atrocities into every home in America. Pretty similar. Wish we had a media that would still do this - I think of this often with gun violence, where the violence is never shown "out of respect for the victims" but in reality to shield viewers/readers from having to confront what's happened. If I'm ever shot down by an AR-15, I want my bloody body shown everywhere.

Unfortunately he's garbo on all of the other issues too.
At some point in the probably near future I'm going to lay out a stupidly long post of all the shit he's done but it's absolutely ridiculous to say he's garbage on healthcare, education funding/access, climate change, and gun control given all he's done (especially given the Congress he's done it with, but the list is long enough that it doesn't even need that qualifier), and whether you credit it to him or not, the country's moved in the right direction on economic fairness and opportunity more than any president at least since Clinton. Just because you want him to do more doesn't mean he hasn't done a shitload.
