Well we're going all out hoping people around us will be okay with it....hopefully they won't mind sharing with us. We are bringing a 12X 12 dining shelter and a couple of tarps. We thought that if we need additional shade we can rig them up around the shelter with bungee cords. The more people the merrier to hang out with us! ;D ;D
If you can take some bungee cords then you can rig the tarps off of your car and other people's dining shelters...just a suggestion.
We ususaly end up with a tent city with tarps and shelters covering most everything by the end of the weekend.
Shelter from the early morning sun is really useful for keeping your tent cooler. Bring a compass or make note of the sun when you park to determine where to place the tarps for best effect.
I've never had any problems hooking into other people's shelter poles or tarps to make a greater total area.
We cheated this year, my wife was deeply scarred by the heat last year! Psychologicaly at least, so we rented a pop-up camper, it has an awning on it so we should be ok.
My boyfriend and I bought a nice screen house... also specially designed a few tarp panels to fit along the sides in the event of rain or if more shade is desired. I got 2nd and 3rd degree burns on my shoulders last year from the sun, and I cannot let that happen again this year! Sunblock, sunblock, sunblock, and plenty of shade.

Okay, first things first, you gotta understand that the my dirty dozen travels like the queen's indian expeditionary force. We just subbed in cars and trucks for elephants. Sure it's technically "camping" but we don't lack for much.
If the plan goes right (which is not real likely, probably) we'll set up the popup on the east side of our little group to block maximum sun in the morning. Then someone else is bringing the folding car port, which should be extend from the side of the camper behind everyone's vehicles. Tents set up around that, with tarps off the edges of the car port tied off to the backs of vehicles or whatever else we can find, to cover them and increase our shaded area.
Hmmm...This is easier when I can draw you a picture...
We also have a couple of screen houses, in case we don't have adequate room for a 20' carport. Hopefully, though, we'll be able to talk nice to the neighbors and share space and shade. We'll be 4 vehicles wide by ourselves, so I think we'll probably get enough...
We learned our lesson about shade last year and vowed to do it right this year...
