just a note
we got in line just off the exit about 5 AM and were one of the last people to get placed in the back back camping area. Last year it was the 007 campgrounds. It appears if we had arrived 30 mins later we would not have had a 30 min walk to centeroo.
This may be helpful if you are not wanting to camp across the state line.
This year we plan to arrive about noon on Thursday. If you think about it, logisticlly it makes more sense to put the early ones in the way back so you don't have a ton of full camping to drive them trough. Like first in last out kinda thing if your a programmer. My bet would be this trend continues this year.

my friends and i have gotten in line around 10 or 11 thursday afternnon and gotten in around 2 or 3 in the afternoon with plenty of time to set up and get a load on. never had a terrible or great spot, but your spot camping is what you make of it. you can always meat great people around you and i have never had more than a 15 minute walk to the venue area. look forward to meetin some of you guys this year. see you in manchester
Here's the deal as I understand it: they don't intend to let people in until thursday morning. But every year a line starts growing at around noon on wednesday. My friend's arrived to the site at about 8 pm wednesday nite last year (which was about when I was departing on our 13 hour drive). They said people were partying on the side of the road, and the line was growing, so everyone got let in sometime wednesday nite. I arrived at around 9 in the morning and was in line for about three hours. When we got in, to my suprise, we had an excellent campsite. I was about 10 min from centeroo. Meanwhile, my friends who got in early had a much worse spot. They were on the other side of the stages (frequently not depicted in arial shots of bonnaroo) with a 30 minute, muddy walk to the stages.

Yeah that whole area out behind those bridges is kind of a bummer, but what are you gunna do with 80,000 people? Speaking of which it might be a bit better this year with 10,000 less...

yeah i have read a shitload about when people go, and where they are placed, and i think it looks like thursday mid day is the prime time to get a decent spot and get there on thursday. in addition to all that, avoid a horrendous wait in the line. a little wait can be good, but i have the attention span of a peanut so it would be hard for me.

on thursday is when you will have to wait in line to get a good spot. We waited 3 to 4 hours on thursday at 05 roo but when we got there on wednesday night about ten minutes before midnight we waited about 30 minutes to park no lie but alas we where stuck in the back camping i think it was green latern but it was a 20 minute walk to centeroo.

Ultimately, which do you think is better?
Having to wait in line for 3-4 hours and get a good spot? or waiting half an hour and getting a not-so-good spot?
If you think about it, those that come early have to leave last, too. Or, at least, will still have to wait for all those who came in after them... I dunno. I took off from Wednesday to Tuesday so I'm home free, I suppose.
Waiting for 3 hours doesn't sound so bad considering I"ll have just driven 14 hours down the eastern coast.
All right, last year we arrived in Manchester on wednesday early afternoon. Went to the Wall mart hung out with everybody, did some shopping and just took in the sites. Around 4 ish went to a near by restaurant and took in a great meal. Then got in line around 6 pm wednesday. We got in about an hour and set up and partied real hard that night. Probably the hardest, we were there that year. We were then able to rest from the trip down and get really situated so that we were rested and ready to go for the whole festival. We were about 20 minutes walk from the main entrance. I dont think it is a big deal. We liked to be in ready set to enjoy the whole experience. The previous Roo we got in at like 6 am thursday and waited in line for about 3-4 hours. It was tiring and then had to set up and rest for thursday night. It depends on what you want out of your trip when you should try to go in. We like to get in early, get set up, get some direction and then start to take in the whole experience. Plus it is fun to just watch the influx of people arriving when you are in early.
iv e gotten there early and theyve never let anyone in on weds where i was... it was always like 5 -7 am on thursday morning... also ive entered from both sides and one is signifigantly better then the other... with one entrance you will be at least a 20 min walk no matter what time ya get there (ours was more like 35 min. ) and with the othe we have only had a 5 min walk to centerroo...and we are early arrivers... like 2 am on thurs...so if your seeing walmart and on a country road yer gonna have a decent walk....at least by my understanding of the layout and my experiences the west bound highway 24 entrance is the way to go

I was wondering about the RV situation....will the Rv's get parked all the way in the back if they go in on Wed. night?? Or do they park them pretty close to centeroo?
I thought they weren't opening the campsite til Thursday morning?
Yeah, that's what we thought last year too. The tickets said that the gates would open at 9:00 am Thursday and the website said 7:00 am. We were betting on those times so we could get in line and sleep or party until the gates opened. We got there at 3:00 am Thursday and they waved us on in and way out in Camp M.
As for the comment above about first in, first out, we didn't find that to be so. Sunday morning people started leaving and it opened a path for us to get to the road. Once we hit that, the Roo staff lead us to a side street (before the bridge) and we were on the highway headed home within a quick ten minutes. Alas we missed a lot of great shows, but that breakfast we had at Waffle House that morning was spectacular.

RV's have their own lots - none of which are out in BFE. I'm not sure which RV lots they fill up first, but you can take a look at the aerial photos to see where they are.

there arent actually 10,000 less people this year. they just reduced the number of tickets available by 10,000. which is the amount they couldnt sell last year. so if they sell out it will be the same amount of people as last year. they just got rid of what they couldnt sell and charged more for what they do sell.
also ive wondered what would happen if ya got in weds. if at like 4 am you just got in your car and drove to a good spot and setup. do you think they would make you move? i doubt they would if you were in a reasonable spot in a corner where they would start anyways. it seems like it would be too disruptive for them to stop bringing people to that area until you packed up and moved

I've heard of several people doing this. The only problem I see is that you're probably trapped in by the people around you at that point. But if your neighbors don't mind tearing down camp to let you through, then it sounds like the best way to get close to Centeroo.

That's the primary reason we decided to rent the RV this year.
you can get in on Wed. ive gotten there on Thu AM the last two years and there were already tousands of people there.
and when they file you in, its like a snake, the early arrivers have just as good a chance as the normal arrivers. aside from wed arrivals and friday arrivals, this is pretty much the trend.
and if you want to see where thr RV parking is, check the trail map from last year. i think you can find it on the roo site. ive also seen someone post a pic of it here, like in the meetup thread or something. it might have been PoorVin that posted it, im not sure.
We are definitely going in on wednesday evening again. I like to get in and get set up and then be able to kick back and relax. We partied our ass off on wednesday night probably the hardest of the whole festival. We got up on thursday relaxed hung out rested and was ready for the fun to begin thursday evening. No rushing for us, we were set up for the whole weekend and most people still were not in and we were chillin
