I haven’t heard of them, but upon googling, saw they’re Christian rock. 😬 How preachy are they?
I've seen them at Newport on the fort stage in 2015 or 16 or something like that and they were great. One of the more lively performances of that day. violinist slamming all over the stage. The band was like 12 people and they were all yelling the words to every song.
I hadn't listened to them before seeing them there and never even knew they were Christian rock. I listened to their recorded music afterwards and found it nowhere near as interesting but live... should be a good time.

I can only imagine they were a youth group worship band or a church band at one point. They just have that sound. But they do sound better than you might expect given that comparison.
I believe they received a standing ovation for their first Quad Stage set. Which is what likely got them invited back a year or two after.

Sunday is easily the weirdest day at Newport Folk Fest I may have seen (so far of course, plenty of time for it to change) since the Ben and Jerry days.

It does on paper. But, it looks like atleast 2 Billy Strings sit ins and a Joan Baez sit in is in play, which is a big deal for me personally. I’ve also had Sierra Ferrel cancel on me 5 times In 3 years, so I’ve got some unfinished business and pent up excitement for that set.

But there is a ton of wack shit on there as well.
I have to think that the Sunday headliner might be a celebrate Newport anniversary set w/ Joan, Billy, Patti, Mavis, James, etc. Big names from all iterations of the festival. And it will be epic. But that the rest of the day’s lineup is being sacrificed for it.

I might be in the minority here, but if it was that lineup or something like it, I’ll happily accept a cut on the day to experience something like that, as I am a sucker for collaboration and once in a lifetime events. My favorite Bonnaroo set of all time the Jim James Superjam, so I’m all about a bunch of artist getting together for covers

Are they trying to push the demand for tickets down? haha, this is pretty wildly rough for me. I told my wife, cannot see us doing gull and stars after this.

I can imagine how pissed you folks might be. Y’all pay big bucks for that package and this is not remotely close to delivering.

They were even more fun when they played The Quad in 2014.
The oh hellos produced one of my favorite tiny desk concerts of all time and I've never seen them live, so I'm actually really excited about this addition!
All I know my last 3 years maybe my favorite set of the weekend (barring the big surprise guest and revue sets which always get announced last) have been sets that I literally had never listened to the act but was camping out for other stuff. 23 Remi Wolf, 22 Backseat Lovers, and 19 Jupiter and Okwess. Some of my other favorites are the last minute thrown together collaborative sets to fill in for last minute cancellations. In 8 years I can think of maybe 2 sets I didn't like and a handful that were a little boring. That's a pretty great batting average. It will be ok
We aren’t paying for them to deliver lineup announcements. We are paying for the experience of the weekend (and, in theory, to support your arts.). Let’s wait until the weekend is over before we start complaining. This is a May ritual at this point to hate the lineup and by the time the weekend is over we all have lifetime memories to bring home. And, there are several bands on Sunday that are great: I am really enjoying Tinariwen, look forward to seeing them live Family is digging Palmyra. Think they have a big future ahead of them. Particularly like “Park Bench” November Ultra has a crazy unique sound and it is beautiful. Friko is great. Going to have a hard time with conflicts at this point. Dropkick. Murphys and Oh Hellohs would be good/fun sets. Low expectations but joyful. One of those bands will crazy over deliver because it is Newport.
Let’s just chill in the negativity. It brings down the experience for others.

You made a great list for Sunday and didn’t include Mighty Poplar and Sierra Ferrell ?🥲 LA LOM is one of the openers for Vampire Weekend’s tour too, so hopefully that gives them some love.

Taylor Goldsmith out on IG stories posting about meeting up for a hike with Yim and the 10th anni’ of New Basement Tapes. I’d be down for a proper set of this.
T Bone has a new album this year, that heavily features Lucius, just wrangle up the crew already.

Could be likely.
Rhiannon Giddens is already there.
Elvis Costello is already playing NJF and could be booked for both. He is also open NFF weekend and ends his tour with Daryl Hall in the northeast a few days before the festival.
Jim James teased something with NFF with Monsters of Folk.
Dawes ends their tour on the 26th and is open Saturday and Sunday.

Marcus Mumford is open.
This could also give Joan Baez an in to perform a song or two since she’s reinterpreted many a Dylan tunes.

If anyone is looking at the Sunday lineup and thinking “I think we need more church worship meets pop-folk artists on Sunday” - Needtobreathe’s tour lines up nicely.
