It’s possible. Although I wrote off that same Relix article when they messed this up:
“Other major acts from recent years include The National, The Roots, Alison Russell, Randy Newman, Dinosaur Jr. and Brandi Williams & Friends, which featured Joni Mitchell’s surprise return to the stage after nearly two decades away.”

Haha. I just tried to make a mock and started laughing.
War on Drugs, Elle King, Welch & Rawlings, Orville, Joan Baez poetry, Killer Mike, Billy Bragg.
Who knows
My mock for that day so far is:
FORT: TBD > Elle King > Rhiannon Giddens > Gillian Welch and David Rawlings > The War on Drugs > TBD QUAD: BERTHA > Josiah > Hermanos Gutierrez > Orville Peck > Killer Mike > Joan Baez HARBOR: Reyna Tropical > Chaparelle > Samm Henshaw > Tre Burt > Craigie & Slim > Billy Bragg
I could see Newport relegating The War on Drugs to the Quad as the Quad closer since they’re louder (and more niche) and have Dave and Gillian close out the Fort stage. Not that I’d enjoy that, but it’s within the realm of possibility.
Like I said yesterday there’s a lot of precedent for a band like WOD to close the quad, but if they do I really hope it wouldn’t be against Gil and Dave, that would be a sound bleed disaster.

Pending the headliner, there's already a lot to like this day. TWOD absolutely rules, Killer Mike is a really cool booking, and beyond those "top 2" I like Orville, Herm Guti, Billy Bragg, and Craigie & Slim... I'm honestly not sure if there was any single day over the last 2 years where I liked 6+ artists before doing any listening/research.
The problem, of course, is that the schedule will look a lot like this mock and I'd (theoretically if i had tickets) have to pick 3-4 of them and skip 2-3.
Looks like Swamp Dogg has a Bluegrass album coming out.
Produced by Ryan Olson (Bon Iver, Poliça) and recorded with an all-star band including Noam Pikelny, Sierra Hull, Jerry Douglas, Chris Scruggs, Billy Contreras, and Kenny Vaughan, the collection is a riotous blend of past and present, mixing the sacred and the profane in typical Swamp Dogg fashion as it blurs the lines between folk, roots, country, blues, and soul. The tracklist is an eclectic one—brand new originals and vintage Swamp Dogg classics sit side by side with reimaginings of ’70s R&B hits and timeless ’50s pop tunes—but the performances here are thoroughly cohesive, filtering everything through a progressive Appalachian lens that nods to tradition without ever being bound by it. Special guests like Margo Price, Vernon Reid, Jenny Lewis, Justin Vernon, and The Cactus Blossoms all add to the excitement, but it’s ultimately the 81-year-old Swamp Dogg’s delivery—sly and playful and full of genuine joy and ache—that steals the show. The result is a record that’s as reverent as it is raunchy, a collection that challenges conventional notions of genre and race while at the same time celebrating the music that helped make Swamp Dogg the beloved iconoclast he’s known as today.
Been lurking for a while, but finally decided to jump into the fray. Needless to say, I've been extremely disappointed with the roll-out this year, particularly since this is the first time I've shelled out for Gulls & Stars, but the Tre Burt announcement today has me dreaming of a Swamp Dogg appearance. As Beaker pointed out, he has a bluegrass album coming out at the end of the month, and he's been touring with members of his new label (John Prine's Oh Boy Records) recently, including Tre Burt. Probably wishful thinking, but the chance to see a legend like Swamp Dogg at Fort Adams would make it all worthwhile for this folker.

He played at Margo Price’s aftershow last year so the connection is there. He was amazing. I hope he returns with Moogstar on Keytar!

Finally got a chance to listen to Tre Burt because Amazon Music wouldn’t recognize him among the multiple more popular Tres…
I can’t say how he is live, but I dig his newer, souls-y sound!
Anyway, they couldn’t have foreseen November Ultra canceling, but we’re down to 11 acts now for Sunday…now I’m starting to feel like there’s some real firepower left for that day.

Saw him in February with the full band. Sounded exactly like the record and oozed 😎. Great time all around.
Elle King is the most commercially successful artist on the lineup. I doubt she plays where the Eastern Medicine Singers played last year.
Maybe quad closer where Noah was last year originally? Baez goes before Billy Bragg on Harbor?
I don’t think she would close the Quad, Maren Morris didn’t even close the Quad. I place her at either 4th on Quad or 3rd on Fort. I still think it’s crazy that Kacey Musgraves was 4th on the Fort post-Golden Hour

I’m also hoping they’re not at the same time, I’d really like to see both of their full sets
Are they another bike stage artist returning to main stage this year? I seem to remember them on bike stage but I could be confusing them with another band.
Ocie Elliott makes perfect sense for Newport; they seem to be getting very popular too. Caamp Light. But another act I wish would have come up earlier in the announcement cycle because I’m expecting bigger at this point. (Which may be my own problem.)

Damn - Saturday too - that leaves us with just 1 Saturday act left. Definitely a lighter day than many of the days on previous year lineups.

That makes sense. They kind of stacked Saturday announcements early? At the very least, maybe swap WoD and them…I personally feel like Fridays should be for bigger acts?

Yeah they’re gonna have to make a splash with the last announcement. However I’ve been listening to them a lot recently so I’m pretty happy with this announcement

Unpopular opinion; I think Saturday this year is better than last year’s.

So no Sunday announcements at all this week. In the past, have they rolled out like this? Should we expect some bigger names that had to wait to announce? Maybe a rollout of artists that would give away what’s happening if they released it too soon? 🤔

I have no problem with Saturday from a curation perspective - I think there’s a lot of interesting stuff there. It just seems like a lighter day when it comes to star power, artists with recognizable songs, etc. (other than Elle King).

There have been rollouts with day discrepancies in the past. I think last year had a day that wrapped up (save the headliner) a lot faster than others. But I can’t recall it ever being this much of a difference. Still 1/3 of the Sunday acts left to be announced. I’m guessing that they may be related in some way that they’ll start hinting at a Sunday theme once they get announced.
