The searches, wristbands and etc. are at the gate. People will direct you to where you will be parked. If you arrive during the rush it could take awhile but isnt too painfull.
I've been struggling with when to arrive this year. Last year I showed up late thursday morning, probably 10 or 11. It was pretty bad, maybe 3 hours worth of waiting before we got to the gate. But at the same time, it was fun. There were a bunch of archetypical hippies in the car in front of us. They got out when the line started and began playing with hula hoops and frisbees. I met some people and chilled by the highway for a while. I suppose the "rush" is between about 9 am and 9 pm Thursday. Once we got to the gate they treated us gently. We popped the trunk for them, they shifted our luggage around, a guy looked around the car, but we were never taken out of the car or asked to open anything but the trunk. For the most part they are on the look out for nitrous tanks and glass containers (don't bring bottled beer or liquor in glass handles). They will confiscate drugs if they find any, and may also take your tickets. At the same time, this is generally infrequent, as they do not have the time to go through everyone's stuff.
So back to the point . . . last year I did have to wait awhile to get in, but my spot was awesome, 10 minutes tops from Centeroo. I had a group of friends arrive the night before (Wednesday evening, 'bout 11 pm). They got in pretty quickly, but they had to camp way out in 007 land. They were seperate from most of the camp area, had nearly half an hour to centeroo, and even then it was across a bridge and through a bunch of mud. I suppose this year I'm going to get there around sunrise thrusday, hopefully have a little less of a wait, maybe even camp closer (if not, i'm going into the "tent-only" section this year, you could hit centeroo with a frisbee from there). Drive safe.

Is camping in the "tent only" area tough or something? I notice a lot of people camp out by their cars. Is that just because it's easier as far as locking away valubles and whatnot goes?
You're basically right jerkface. People like to be by their cars to lock away valuables, protect their stuff, and jump inside for the occasional "air conditioning session". Plus it can seem awkward just leaving your car around a bunch of crazy fools and camping half a mile away. However, I've never really heard of people have problems leaving their car. If I go into "tent-only" I figure I'll go to the car at the beginning of every day, grab some cash, food, and start rolling around. Use the tent as a "home base" and sleeping area, and the car for storage/security. Also, there are some put off by the "tent-only" space because it is said to have higher instances of theft; although I have heard the opposite, and that it can in fact, be safer. Not to mention most newcomers have no idea about it; last year it looked like there was a lot of room, I'd have gone in but my spot rocked ;D.
