I havent been to bonnaroo sence the very first one in 02 and the wait to get into the fest was horrible for some people...it took my boyfriend and I less than 2 hrs but i heard alot of people waited 12hrs or more. How has it been getting in these past 3 yrs???
The short answer is: it really depends on when you get there.
I get there in the wee hours of Friday morning every year (most people get there Thursday at this point) and it has gone from 12+ hours in '02, to driving straight in last year. I think at this point the longest lines are on Thursday during the day but I'm not sure if that's the case or how long they are.
In any case, my experience has been that they have made huge improvements in this area since '02. The earlier they let people in and the more bands they put on Thursday, I think it really helps to spread out peoples arrival times. They definitely have increased gates and ticket booths as well.
Last year we arrived at Exit 111 at 3:00 am Thursday and pitched camp at sunrise. So I guess it took a few hours, but the line never really stopped and neither did the party. No complaints here.

Yeah i would say anything under 4-5 hours should be tolerable, but you hear about pleny of people practically driving right in (less than 1 or 2 hours) or waiting 2-3 hours... It does depend on alot on when you get there though...
So we are leaving Thursday in Milwaukee at about 4am and hoping to get in around 3ish. I know that there will be some type of a line, and probably a few hours wait. My question is, do they look past partying in line or no? A few beers possibly? Or would we be messing with fire?

While not an expert on waiting in line ( we always come in from the back which is an extra 45 miles but the wait is about zero) I have seen that partying is a major part of the wait - looks to be pretty much an anything goes situation.
On a more positive note - from the KOA we could see the interstate and traffic was moving for most of the afternoon on Thursday. It was the best moving traffic we have seen in 3 years.

i have gone in on bushy branch and off of the highway.. i will say that bushybranch is a much better party in line, its off these country roads and there are peoples houses on the street and they sell lemonade and whatnot, lots of drinkin, smokin, frisbees, and hacky sacks, however we got put in camp mushmouth and it was a long walk!!!! going in of of 24 is not nearly as much fun in line as it is the side of a highway, but we got in quicker and got a much better spot, but ive heard the opposite too.. i think it depends what time and what their plan for the year is

Just watch the people around you. If they are partying, then do the same. It seemed that Roogoers took on a mob-like mentality shortly after we hit the line. By 'mob-like mentality', I mean, who are the cops going to arrest when everyone is doing it? Ya know?
I will add that last year when we were in line, I struck up a conversation with a cop standing at the exit directing traffic. I asked if they were watching for drugs. He said, "You could roll up a joint right here and I'd tell you to smoke it. We are watching for meth-heads; they are a violent crowd and we don't want them here."

We get a hotel in Chattanooga Wed. night, and drive the last 45 mins to Manchester around 8am Thursday morning. Last year we were in and setting up camp by 1-2pm. I really think that's the way to go - we've always gotten a GREAT spot (very close to Centeroo, but not so close as to be in the flow of traffice).
Might be doing the RV thing for the 1st time this year though - we'll see how it goes
