ive never been to roo, but ive been to HFStival a few times and ill tell you... Medicated Powder is where its at. the powder keeps you cool and dry, the medication gives this nice cool feelin thats.... well......like gettin a hummer from a girl with altoids in her mouth. two birds with one stone........
Yeah, that's where the 1000 elves nickname came from.
I plan on setting up my camp in my backyard once or twice before 'roo so I can set up fast and make sure I have everything I need.
I also want to test out some breeze catching methods ive been working on in my head. You get absolutely no breeze in the crowded camping area, but I noticed that about 8-10 ft above the ground there's a good breeze going a lot of the time. My idea is to somehow catch that breeze and focus it on my canopy/tent area. I got this idea because in 04 we had a VW pop top bus without the canvas and when you opened the top it was like air conditioning in the back. It made for some good mid afternoon napping.

I'll tell you what I will not be doing this year. Selling beer and gatorades. The past two years my friends and I have spent around four hundred dollars on beer and gatorade to sell each year. We never have the patience to sell all the product and end up with a ton of leftover dank beer. The only cool part is that our cooler is filled with some of the best beers ever. But after I saw people getting their entire stash dumped out before being allowed in last year, I'm not taking the chance. I just wanna party and listen to the music this year. No worries.
1. This year I will focus on NOT freaking out, but rather enjoy every moment of the experience that is Roo. Last year the first day was full of panic attacks (you can read about it here -goingloopy.diaryland.com/050613_77.html - there are four entries w/pics - My best friend Kelly wrote it, but she goes by 'GoingLoopy' on the diary and I'm 'BFRB'.)
2. I will drink more - both water & beer
3. I will see more shows
4. I will find this stuff I never saw and/or found last year: a. I never saw Shakedown Street b. I never saw the Comedy Tent or the movie tent c. I never saw the Sonic Forest d. I never saw the mist tents e. I only saw one late night show f. I never saw the artists' signing area g. I saw the silent disco, but never tried it h. I never saw the playground
5. I will blow bubbles .... I'm currently looking for the glow-in-the-dark bubble bath to mix in with my bubbles.
6. I will meet tons of cool people & party with them - hopefully you guys will be a better group than the group we met up with last year. They weren't bad or mean people, they were just a tight click. We decided we weren't at Roo to relive that high school scenerio, so we wen't on our own.
7. I may not know my name, or yours, but we'll be having fun at the ROOOOoooo!!
It took me until 11pm Saturday night to realize this last year.... There is "Brewers Festival Tent" with something like 8 or 10 microbrews serving 30 or 40 great beers. How I missed this, I do not know. I spent the better part of three days buying 20 oz Budwiser for 5 bucks, when I could have been buying 16 oz tasty Magic Hat beer (try #9 and thank me later) for the same price (within one dollar). This year I will certainly take my business to this tent.
TickTrix - I don't understand how you couldn't have seen Shakedown! I've always had to walk straight through it to get into Centeroo.
Futurecowboy, we were camped out in BFE and thought that the vendors along the path were Shakedown. It wasn't until a couple of weeks ago when someone posted the Google Earth satelite photo with the landmarks that I figured out we never saw the real Shakedown Street. I was so bummed.

I am buying a 5 day cooler this year. I have 3 coolers now, but after reading all the posts about a 5 day cooler, I am making the investment and leaving the other coolers at home. You get more days out of your ice in this cooler. It sounds like a good investment, since it iwll cut down on running to get ice. Beisdes that, relax and party. Also, last year I bought a Zodi, portable heated shower, and made a "make shift" shower tent. It did not last that long into the weekend and started to fall apart. This year I am buying a new portable shower tent. I then can shower, in private and be squeaky clean.

Pittbob - I'd bring a 5-day and one normal cooler. FILL the 5-day up w/ ice & frozen water bottles to the BRIM before you leave, and pack all the stuff you'll be getting out normally in the other cooler. If you ONLY open the 5-day to get out ice to put into your other cooler, you'll still have ice by Monday.

differently this year? i think im gonna go ahead with the ice cooler idea, that spray on sunscreen thats not in an aerosol can is good stuff and not to mention, more everclear and gatorade.
what i want to do different is give myself more space. everyone should do this. when you pull in slow down and give yourself some room.there are 700 acres.lets spread out a little

um actually i would have to disagree... there isnt very much room at all.. and you dont spend much time at campany ways. take as much space you need for your tent and shade structure and only take what you need. this isnt a spread out kind of camping. its a lets squeeze everyone in and try to keep from putting people where they have to walk for an hour. there is nothing worse then maiking your mile and a half walk to centeroo and seeing dozens of spots where you could have squeezed you car and tent into. respect you fellow rooers and only take the smallest amount of space you need. the parking people regulate it pretty well and i have seen them make people put their stuff closer together when they tried to claim a big old space

There was way more room to camp (for me, I've always been parked pretty close to Centeroo) last year than there was the year before. Parking attendants were actually pretty chill. Should be EVEN BETTER this year since they cut the # of tickets (and are using the same amount of property).
I paid my $200 and I'm gonna be comfortable. I spread out as much as I can without totally screwing people over.
My impression from reading everyone's comments over the years is that if you are in the early arriving portion of the crowd, they are making an effort to squeeze people in more and by the time the tail end of the crowd is arriving they are a lot less proactive about it and it is easy to spread out. I don't take any more space than I need (Room for 1 shade tent + however many tents my group is using) but I've never had any kind of problem being squeezed as a relatively late arriver (Friday morning).
Last year my husband and I took the time to listen to a sampling of as many of the performers as possible. Then we went a little psycho-anal with it and made a color coded chart of what band had priority at any given time (just an excel spreadsheet with each stage represented as a color). The end result is a little like a rainbow. It seemed a little silly before we got there.... but we will DEFINITELY be doing it again. If something wasn't what we expected, we knew where our #2 pick was with a glance. Also, we each had our individual priorities, so it made separating and finding eachother again MUCH easier. It takes a little work, but I heard so much more last year than previous years.... and if you ask me, a little pre-roo work is a small price to pay for less stress and more music when you're actually there.

well youve been lucky to be close to centeroo... take a walk out to the boonies and see if you think its cool to walk to center roo and see people taking up more space then is neccesary in the name of comfort. it really pissed me off to see lots of spots that people could have squeezed together and made room for many more people to be close instead of haveing to be out in the boonies and packed in like sardines because they are running out of space cause of people taking up space to be comfortable. just my thoughts. your not there for camping. you will only be at your site to sit around and sleep... what exactly do you need this space for?? its a big farm with plent of areas to do things out of the camping area. what is it that you need for comfort??? sit up your tent and a shade structure that you can put some chairs under. what else do you need? please cram in as close as you can to keep everyone as close to ceneroo as possible. we all payed the same price for our tickets. and here is the info form roos website as to what the ticket buys for you.
Q- Where will we be camping / parking? Are we going to be able to camp next to our cars? A- Camping space will be provided in front of or behind each vehicle. NOTE: Each vehicle will have a camping area of approximately 10 feet by the width of your car. You will not be able to save spots. If you plan on parking/camping with your party you must arrive together.
please follow the plan so that everything can be as good as possible for as many as possible. and as for the ticket thing they reduced the tickets by the number they couldnt sell last year. so if this year sells out it will be the same amount of people as last year not 10,000 less... just be considerate. if you being packed in a bit means that more poepl can be closer then that is a small price to pay, plus it is what you purchased with your ticket. why should you get more hten what you paid for forcing others to have a long ass walk?
damn wheres the love and respect for your fellow bonnarooers

I don't direct traffic, and I don't decide who gets put where. They direct me in, park me, and I set up camp. It's not my fault that there isn't room in the boonies, when I'm not in the boonies. I've never taken up more space than is allotted by the width of my car and the amount of room behind it. I'm just saying that I have no qualms taking up the room I need to be able to do what I want for 5 days. That has never interfered with anyone around me, and they all did the same thing.

You really need to calm down.
agreeed on the calm down bit. the land is big enuf for all of us
Post by keithk1055 on Apr 21, 2006 14:11:08 GMT -5
i am not uncalm, i dont see how that quote can be answered with calm down. just pointing out some overly obvious points about courtesy and the actual bonnaroo rules... it just seems crazy to take up space for no reason. you guys gonna play baseball? just trying to point out that they pack us in for a good reason and they make the rules f how much space you get so everyone can fit. not so that they can cram us in and have tons of space left. i assume that if your near centeroo you dont understand how packed in they are in the boonies and how far of a walk it is... just take what they give you and if you need more then that buy another ticket i guess... not trying to start anyhting... it seems like common sense and common courtesy to me. how much space do you need to sleep?
and if your spreading out to what you feel is comfortable instead of setting up in the samll spot that is givin then you are responsible for there not being space in the boonies even if you arent there
i cant believe i am getting shiit over this. where is the common sense??? this isnt a state campground its a music festival

jeez, look what i started. i wasnt saying i need a half acre lot. last year was my first time and didn't know how things worked. we were packed so tight we barely squeezed our two tents in behind my truck. i love meeting the neighbors and new friends. peace and Bonnaroooo
