Hey Roovians,
I've read a lot of responses along the lines of the Roo experience not being all there if you don't camp but I'm looking for some feedback on the difficulty of day parking. I plan to sleep in the car for Thursday night but will be hitting a hotel for the rest of the nights (or should I say mornings). This plan is as much for the other 79,999 people as much as it is me (because I can be one grumpy, downright ornery person if I don't get some sleep). Well, that and I like to take a couple of showers every day....but enough about me. Can someone tell me about their experiences in trying to get to a hotel each night? Tullahoma in particular....
Thanks Peeps, can't wait to be part of this experience.

I am normally very cranky w/o good sleep too, but at roo i got only a couple of hours a sleep a night/day and felt no effects. The adrenaline of the weekend takes over. (some "stay awake meds" help as well).

Thanks pigsnzen (kool Janes moniker btw) I read those posts before and maybe my question was overkill....it's just that......I CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT THE ROO!!!! So many bands that: I've seen and want to see again, always wanted to see or I hope will be a happy musical surprise. Oh, then there's the party, having fun and making a whole bunch of new friends.
This is how I used to feel about Christmas when I was a yute.....two more months....UGH!!!

I would say that if you really want to see all the bands that you do, you should find a way to make staying ON the grounds an option... Staying off site is going to add ALOT of complications to your Roo' adventure... If you havent gotten the hotel yet i would get on it... and be prepared to have to be thinking about driving to that hotel at the end of each night, Roo' can be pretty overwhelming in alot of ways....

Actually, my experience with a hotel last year was exactly the opposite. I was able to see every late night show for the first time precisely because I could sleep in until 11:30am every morning (instead of waking up at 8am drenched in sweat after getting only 4 hours sleep). Yes, it was a fifteen minute drive back to the hotels in Tullahoma @ 4am (with absolutely no traffic) and we had to designate a DD each night, but being able to sleep in so late and get cleaned up really kept my energy levels up to an all time high.
That said, I'm probably going back to camping this year. I camped every other year from '02, and I missed the grilling out and having a home base to operate from (instead of having to cart everything with you to Centeroo from Noon to 4am).
The best of both worlds to me would be setting up a temporary shelter in the tent-only area to hold a cooler, food, and some chairs but still staying in a hotel at night to allow sleeping in later and showers. This might be what I end up doing. However, camping is a activity near and dear to my heart. It's just that doing the hotel thing allowed me to see more shows, which in the end is why I come to 'Roo in the first place. I can go camping in much more serene locations in Kentucky any other weekend without the hassle of the lines and noisy neighbors.
I just checked out some of the local hotel packages. For about half the price you could upgrade your roo tickets to VIP. Get showers and the amenities that might make camping and being a part of the fest a workable option. I'm really ramped up for the music and all at my first roo but I'm thinking there is just as much fun to be had hanging with everyone else for the entire weekend. I'll be ready to come back to reality on Monday. til, then Coleman shower wipes....
here is a first-hand account of a Bonnaroo vet who has rented a hotel in Tullahoma:
"I also want to follow-up to what I orginally said about this topic. I stayed at a hotel in Tullahoma in 2004, the Executive Inn. It was about a 20 minute drive. That alone made me tired each day. I felt like I wasn't "part" of the festival that year. It was in 2005 at the KOA that I finally started to feel as if I was meaningfully participating in the festival. That is why I am psyched about going this 3rd time because I am camping at the main festival campground. It also gives hippies and wookies the chance to see that there are non-hippies at Bonnaroo just as passionate and crazy about the music as they are. Also, one thing that newbies should think about is trying to befriend as many vets as possible to make your initial experience that much better. I met some great people that first year but I felt lost until Sunday.

I would like to thank you all for your input and suggestions. I actually already had chumped-out and booked the hotel package on Day one, so I'm on the hook for the cash anyway. Amen to the comment by the esteemed Kemosabe, Esquire. I dig where you're coming from but, as pigsnzen pointed out, the refreshing sleep and shower will charge me up for the long day (I hope). My buddy will be the DD other than on Thursday when we both plan to get tore up and sleep on-site. He will also be tasked with making sure I don't disappear...lucky him, bound to be a full time job. Don't think I'll have any problem feeling as if I'm meaningfully participating in the festival; I'm a very outgoing person...I also have some things lined up that are sure attention getters and cause for hilarity. Oh yeah, there's a party goin' on! The countdown continues......roo, tick, roo, tock.

Hi everybody, my bofriend and I purchased a hotel package "Jamerson Inn" we still need to purchase air tickets. I'm thinking about upgrading to vip air/hotel or renting a car. I'm worried there is no shuttle service to the hotel from airport and shuttle to Bonnaroo from the hotel. Any advice.........
