Whenever you want man...
I've got alot going on this summer so i've been planning and buying tickets/gear/supplies and figuring out finances and transportation for the past month or two... I always start buying tickets and stuff months in advance so i can make sure i have as much paid for as possible before festie season rolls around... Dont wait till the day before you leave though cause it will be hectic and you WILL forget something hehe...
I start packing and buying non-persihables a week or two in advance. It gives me something to do while the nervous energy of waiting for 'Roo really steps up.
I try to make some sort of progress every month so my schedule and wallet don't go into shock in May. For instance, this month I will buy Wet Ones, glow sticks, batteries, water, new fanny pack, low-backed chairs, etc. I really hate running errands, but like Hobbes said, it helps with the nervous energy that builds up as the Roo nears.

Are you kidding? I am already buying all kinds of shwag,Bought a little battery operated fan yesterday, If I keep this pace up might have to tie my wife or brother to the top of the car to make extra room.
I started buying stuff about three weeks ago. Every time I go to the store I purchase some type of food product, I've purchased some glow products and I had some Gatorade left over from a fest this past weekend (http://www.waneefestival.com/). You get the idea.
I put all these things in a box out of the way to lessen what I need to spend money on in one big lump before we leave in June. I'm about to start on a second box.

I'm so happy you said that you bought a fanny pack. I love fanny packs and I've been trying to bring them back. It embarrasses my boyfriend, but I don't care, fannys are awesome. Heh.

I have a fanny pack that actually has a built-in water bottle holder - which can be great. I've since abandoned it b/c it will just fly out if you get down too hard -- I generally go the back pocket route now.
fanny packs are usually gay, but theyre almost necessary at roo.
you cant worry about how you look at roo. its all about functionality.
btw, i started buying stuff in 2004. the only supplies i really need to buy at this point is stuff that runs out each year, like food and beer.
heres some advice for those that are buying camping supplies for the first time: buy good ones. if you plan on going to any more festies or camping at all in the future, iuts worth it to just buy the good stuff so it lasts you. that way each fest you go to you just pack up your gear, pick up some grug, beer, and ice and just hit the road!
Well, I'm assuming you're a guy, and if I'm right, then you won't have the same problems I had with a backpack. See, it's hot there. Really hot. I took a stack of t-shirts, but every morning I would look at the stack and say, "hell no," and wore tank tops instead. Well, the backpack was rubbing with every step I took.
During the day as I needed stuff out of the backpack, we had to stop walking and my friend had to help me out of it. Once it rained, I couldn't put it on the ground and dig through it, so I had to hold it while impared and searching. Dancing was a problem, portapotties were a problem ... next thing I knew I was cranky. Cranky is not allowed at Roo. Almost everyone has a backpack on, and you really need one, but this year I vow to find an alternative. Boo to the cranky and boo to the backpack says I.
im a backpack guy, dont feel comfy without it in there. it can carry so many perfect supplies. switch to t shirts instead of tanktops, then your shoulders wont chafe as much in the sun and rubbing. and put it under a poncho if it rains, i bring so much rain cover, i never want to miss a show because im uncomfortably wet, and that is always possible. you need to be 100 percent comfy, haha.
