I haven't seen a thread about this so let me know if there is one. I'm flying in and I'm not sure what to do about water. I was thinking about packing a cooler with like 6 gallons then checking it at the airport, but then i'm worried about taking up too much space on the shuttle and having to lug that thing around from the airport too our camping ground. What have people done in years past? Can I get by bringing a couple empty gallons and filling them up at the campground? What's the overall water situation like at bonnaroo, is there enough or is it very limited?
There is plenty of water at 'roo. They have stations set up throughout the campgrounds and centeroo. Bringing empty containers should work fine (if space is at a premium, try the colapsible camping ones). The water does have a somewhat unpleasant sulfur taste but it's drinkable.

Leo's idea for getting some of the free, potable water may be the best solution for you. I have seen some collapsable water totes at the camping stores, which may be easier, lighter and less bulky for you to pack and fly with than empty gallon jugs. Having said all of that, the water is pretty gross and you might want to just buy some bottled water once you hit the campgrounds.
a word of warning. the water at roo is extra sulphury. it is completely drinkable. they test it everyday to make sure. but it isnt the most pleasent tasting water in the world., you can always find people in the campgrounds selling bottled water. ususally a dollar a piece. which could get kinda expensive but is definetly an option if you dont like the well water.
ya that is a decent price. i was just going in relation to getting 24 bottles for 8 bucks at walmart or something. gas station prices for water are ridiculous. not as bad as gas and ciggarettes but still crazy

yeah, its rediculous how some peopel can sell water at such rediculous prices. pleasant, drinkable, non tap water should be paid for by the government and free to civilians
For those of you driving keep your eyes out in the Sunday paper for deals on bottled water at CVS and Walgreens. I just got a "28" pack of 1 pt. bottles at CVS for $4.69 - no quantity limit. I see Walgreens in our area (Florida) has a similar special this week.

I washed and cooked with station water last year and filled my camelbak with spring water from the general store for $6 a gallon... I drank 4 gallons from Friday to Sunday... Throw some ice in the camelbak and it will stay cold for suprisingly long...

so what's the deal with camelbaks? can we actually bring them into centeroo already filled up with ice cold water?
i think i would cry if they made me dump it out and pay for bottled water inside
The info guide for 2006 says that you can bring in camel backs so long as they are empty. You can also bring in sealed bottled water, meaning you carry your water and fill the camelback once through security.

i was hoping to bring it in full of ice with a bit of water to keep it cold though, that's not possible?
crazykittensmile, i'm just givin it as i read it in the guide. I agree it's pretty bogus, but it seems to be the rules. of course, what else are rules for but to be broken?

Apparently not. You have to bring factory sealed bottles in to Centeroo and then empty them in to your camelbak. They usually check to see if the bladder is empty. Sometimes people fill those things with alcohol, they also want you to spend your money in there.

I had no trouble last getting into Centeroo last year with a full water bladder. Each time I entered I opened my backpack to show them the inside, but before entering the line I'd tuck the straw and mouthpiece inside my backpack. Waa - laa! It worked for me, but my bag looks more like a day pack than one of the reservoir style camelback packs. Good luck!
my wife and i are water drinkers and we've gotten by w/ 4/24pk the last two years.. used the most in '04, in the heat, which i think w/b in full force this year..
i've also started to freeze the water bottles i buy at the store to have, usually fill a coooler w/frozen bottles for the trip..
also save the alcohol for after the sun goes down, i learned the hard way.
peace
p.s the melted ice in your coolers is good to rinse off with after a long hot day.. so coool and reefreshhhinngggg..

I've never had a problem getting in with a full camelbak, some security peeps you have to prove to them that its just water, a few will be anal about it enough to make you empty it... As i've said before, find the lines that are moving along at a good steady pace... The ones that seem clogged up are, and you can probably guess why....
just remember if they tell you you have to empty it. or if they try to take your bag or pipe just turn around and walk away. ive done it a couple times to keep from pouring out a water bottle full of grey goose. they wont stop you and they wont come after ya. just walk to anohter entrance or wait a few and try a differentl line away from the prick.
