Hey guys, I have a question about tent sizes. My friend has a really nice tent, but it's kind of big. Probably around 17x10 or so. If I'm camping next to my car, is this too large to bring? I read that the camp space we get is 10' by the width of the car... which seems VERY small. Anyone know?

So, skimming that topic... I should park like an idiot, try to get smoozy with with the guide, and communicate the need for space with my neighbors. Not trying to be a jerk, but do you personally think that a tent of that size would be too large to bring (for four people)?
Also, leo, I totally made a flagpole today using your guide. I'm a bit worried about it leaning so much, but maybe I just needed to hammer the base into the ground more. Nevertheless, it's badass, and was fun to make, too.
If you want to get "smoozy" with the guide, I'd maybe point out the fact that there are four of you in the car and you'll be sharing one tent. They really don't give a sh*t though, so don't fret about the size.
I honestly don't know if the tent would be too big, I haven't camped by my truck at roo. I'd say it probably depends on the guide like aq'drunk said and also luck (if you get put at the end of a row, if you hit paydirt and pull in next to me or someone else who bugs out for the tent area, etc.). I'm sure some of the others here can chime in w/ their experiences. Welcome to the board

You know, as you roll in to your spot being guided by the dude, jerk the car over a foot or two to get some room from your neighbor. They won't make you move it, man.
Also, sometimes, just sometimes, you can talk to someone in line near you on the way in and sort of set it up--'hey, wanna beer, and can we bogart your space?"
People bring some BIG damn tents. There was a $600 screenhouse near me out in BFE that must have been 16x24'. BIG. And they got it worked out.
Best advice other than that above is just be very proactive with the neighbors as soon as you hit the ground. It's a tricky time, so reserved respect for all is probably the best play for the result you are looking for.
The line went out to the trees to hold the tent stable. It was our marker every night in the dark walking back to camp; it was the only way to tell when to turn.
See that green-tarped-in area? Yeah, rumor had it that that part was air-conditioned by a generator. See the vertical electric fan between the two coolers? They had a great set-up!
