Last year I went to roo for the first time and while my neighbors weren't rude, they weren't as friendly as I thought they would be. I'm going again this year and hope to meet more people. Maybe spend more time walking around.

we met up with a group of my friends, and their friends last year. while my friends were camped nearby us, their friends set up a screened in canopy and pretty much stayed in the tent the whole time. we were partying down with all the neighbors except them, they stayed in the canopy the whole time

We always try to befriend our neighbors! Last year on one side of us we camped next to Yanni's sound engineer (if you read this HI!) and i can't even express how hilarious it is to hear crazy stories about yanni when you are tipsy at 2am. But they were awesome people! Then on the other side of us there was a group basically only at roo to see Tool they didn't even go see anything else and sat by their campsite being snotty the whole time.
But on the subject of appearence at roo, it's not as heavy on the jam scene as it once was so I expect to see all kinds of people...the only weird looks I ever gave anyone was people that were super dolled up (like high heels and full makeup looking like they were going clubbing) for camping...it is camping after all!
For me getting to wear "hippie" things like skirts and patchwork is a weekend and festival thing since during the week my dress code is a suit....EW. But I think that's why you see a lot of people dressing for the scene it's fun and festive and a rare chance to be yourself!

For me every now and again I like to dress up but also every now and again I like to just wear the weirdest crap. Honestly I would be one of those people to give someone in nice clothes at Bonnaroo a weird look. Because the way I see it is those clothes are very nice but they have no place at bonnaroo, it's like wearing a suit and tie and then jumping in the mud. It's not that I have a problem with people that wear different types of clothes it just that I would NEVER want to get my nice clothes dirty in a place like 'Roo.

Yea, actually i was thinking about that today, since in my studys of history we are doing the counterculture, and now how the "counterculture" isnt in fact that counter all, and rebelling against the "establishment" isnt very cheap.
You are correct...to a point. Bonnaroo isn't the counter-culture, paying $200+ for a festie ticket isn't cheap...but there are people who actually do live the counter-culture, i.e. don't have jobs, travel from place to place panhandling for food and gas money, selling 'treats'...these are the people who truly don't care what they wear - most of their clothes are hand-me-downs or something taken out of a rescue mission - they can't be too picky with that. These are not the people who spend $200 to go to Bonnaroo. Sure, they may be at the 'Roo, but they didn't pay - at least not the full price.
And if you've ever heard of the Rainbow Family ... well that is where you see the meaning of counter culture, and how cheap rebelling against the establishment really can be.

That's a bummer... when i asked my neighbor who he was really hear to see, and the first words that came out of his mouth was TOOL... he had been to every ROO since 2003 and was a super chill/nice guy.
i'll admit, Tool was a selling point for me to check it out last year, but so was Keller Williams, ratdog and all the other "Hippie" bands... where else can you see jam bands all day and then see a killer Rock/Laser Lights show at night?
