Anyone else into this band. I follow a lot of the 60's, 70's sounding psych stuff and I had heard a few things, once I heard the roo addition I decided to get an album. I got the album 1999-2001. It has 3 songs and its 45 mins long. It goes all over the place and is very interesting. The fist part of the opening track sounds like a Beatles kick back. The it jams out with some jazz influences. The Flute comes out, its just everywhere. Just want to know if anyone else out there has heard any of this? These 15 min long songs are just amazing.
I picked up Ta Det Lungt after the Roo announcement and love it. I definitely get the Beatlesy vibe in places too, and when they rock out the thing it most reminds me of is Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix Experience drummer). It definitely has that psychedelic 60's drum thing going. I would really like to see them get a late night slot and I don't think its impossible.

Ta Det Lungt is excellent!!!! Very unique and an awesome blend of many styles. I highly reccomend them to anyone who hasn't heard them who enjoys The Beatles, Pink Floyd and a maybe even little Opeth
I got turned on to these guys about a month ago. A friend of mine told me about them and then I saw they were playing Roo. What a happy little coincidence. Anyway, these guys remind me a lot of some of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. These are some guys I'm will be seeing.

Dungen is incredible and i've read that they really "jam" the tracks out live so this will be very interesting for those into the traditional "jam" scene, whatever that is.

i've only heard two songs, but i like 'em already...i'll be at the little brother's show for sure (probably my favorite venue in columbus)
I agree, its such a cool place. They always get good gigs. I'm just pissed cause the new Basement venue. They are stealing a lot of the people who should be playing lil bros. You know when bands call around and they are to small for newport they just stick um at the Basement since its the same company. Sucks!
I know what you mean...I guess it's just easier to use Newport/Promowest Productions since they have multiple venues to work with. And p.s. who decided it would be a good idea to rename Promo "Lifestyle Communities Pavilion"? Ridiculous.

I have been getting more and more into this band....I feel like I really have to listen to the songs. There is a lot of stuff going on in these songs. I like how it goes from flute to distorted freak out, back to flute and cymbols, its all over the place.

Also pitchfork has news on the tour and some other text, check out the review for there newest album. Pitchfork gives it a whooping 9.3!! (the review is from Aug 2005)
that link may be a bit messed up, scroll down to read the article.
I had to paste this section from the album review since I attempted to explain the sound of the music previuosly and this sums it up really good.
"Interested in pushing pop glitter to its limits, Ejstes doesn't go as far afield into psych-pop cliches like chirping birds and hippie atmospherics as his elder brethren, but his equally vintage garage sound allows a definite space for ethereality in the form of funereal dew-drop strings, free jazz breakdowns, brief whiffs of AM radio tuning, flute minuets, lushly cascading pianos, prog time changes, florid medieval chimes, sky-melting freak outs, church organs, fuzz-guitar jousts, doubled mountain-top whistles, roaring six-string solos, and autumnal instrumental interludes. It's obvious his songs are painstakingly arranged with a sense of depth, gradations, and tonal three-dimensionality redolent of something as off the charts as Pet Sounds."
I cant wait for the sky-melting freakouts at the roo.
I hear the 70's echoes in Dungen, but they're definitely not derivative.
Kind of like parsing a good wine...
Badsang, Bortglomd = Deep Purple ("in rock" vintage) Sjutton = Doobie Bros ("long train running") Sluta Folja Efter = Beatles, Eagles ("hotel california") Gjort Bort Sig = Beatles ("magical mystery tour" vintage) Christopher = Santana Du Ar For Fin For Mig = Neil Young ("String Quartet From Whiskey Boot Hill") Another song (forget which) echoes "I'm So Afraid" by Fleetwood Mac
