Well obviously there are going to be a decent amount of people coming this year that are first timers and who are die-hard radiohead fans. Myself included. Just like to say we're all real excited to meet all of you, seems like such a welcoming crowd. But yeah, theres been much talk on the radiohead message boards about b-roo and we're stoked.

I'm a diehard Radiohead fan myself, but I really love all the bands there.
Radiohead fans are a nice bucnh of, mostly level-headed people. ;-) I'm sure it will be great. I just read recently a quote from Thom talking about how he enjoys playing new songs live, so I am guessing as well that there will be plenty of new songs. I'm so happy they are playing I could really care less what they play, I love every song anyway.

How long a set do we reckon[er] they will play? The only reason i wonder about new material is because its a festival and i thought maybe theyd do more crowd-pleasing sorts.

there was a radiohead fan on inforoo that went through all of their festival sets and the longest 1 was 2.1 hours and the rest were below 2 hours. with 1.7 hours being the shortest of the bunch. so it seems they are pretty regular with their set time. hopefully they will bust out a longer set for roo with the new songs and all

excuse my bad pun.
Radiohead will be given a four hour slot to play as the headliner. And I've never seen the headliner take a set break. The longest break they should take will only be to introduce a guest, if they have one.
Also, I've never see Radiohead and am super stoked. Not so stoked about Tom Petty.
Anyone know how long their Glastonbury '03 set was?
Cuz im hoping Bonnaroo 06 is the next epic radiohead set.
They played 19 songs at Glasto 03, appx 2 hrs...
During the OK Computer era (97-98), their full sets ranged between 19-23 songs, about 2 - 2.25 hrs
Around the time of their Kid A/Amnesiac tours (00-01) and HTTF era (03-04) their full sets (non-festival) were almost always right around 23 songs, about 2.25 hours
Their recent festival headlining gigs have consistently been a little shorter... about 19-20 songs, appx 2 hrs. They played 20 songs at Coachella 04 (about 2 hrs, 10 min) where they headlined the main stage and could have played longer (i assume). Then again, Thom was still recovering from a throat infection...
I've seen them 10 times and the longest sets of the gigs I've seen were both 24 songs, appx. 2.5 hrs (Hollywood Bowl 03, San Diego 03)
If I were a gambling man, I'd put the over/under of their Bonnaroo 06 set at 25 songs, and 2.5 hrs. I'd be pleasantly surprised if they played longer than that.
They may have played a 3 hour set or 2 at some point... but I am unaware of it ever happening...
Also, they typically do 2 short encore breaks. The first one followed by 2-4 songs, the second one usually followed by 2 songs
I've been pestering their tour audio engineer for any hints of what to expect this time around. Particularly whether their lighting designer, Andi Watson, has anything new up his sleeve. Andi Watson is THE MAN. He's way better than Chris Kuroda! (just kidding Phish-heads)
Regardless of how long they play, theyre going to MELT OUR BRAINS! they always do.

i was the one that posted that i think. im just going off of what i observed. they are not going to tear down and set up lights for each act. it is actually a very good thing because that means everyone has the kickass lighting.
Are they going to have their own light show? It was said earlier that everyone at Bonnaroo uses the same lighting. I was hoping that was false.
They WILL have their own lights. Andi's lights are an integral part of the rh live experience. Their crew gets there early the morning of the show and sets it all up, and then the other bands that precede them on the main stage set up their gear around it. That's how it's worked at both festies I've seen them play. That's typical festival protocol, headliner's gear is priority. if they're on their own tour, sometimes the opening band gets to use some of rh's light gear... and jonny greenwood has been known to occasionally work the light board for their opening acts (he does everything else, so why not?)
I'm just wondering if they'll have something new on display this time. I'm guessing not, because their current setup is so versatile, it can achieve a lot of different "looks" They might try something with a more traditional video display behind them, but I doubt it, since it's been done to death by other bands. (technically the Pixel Line wall they've been using recently IS a video screen... just a very very lo-rez one, with 2 feet between pixels instead of 2 inches)
I dont want to come off as Mr. Pessimistic, but since they are doing a "small" venue tour I would not think that they could get as elaborate with their stage set up, specifically the lights. Which is going to be slightly dissappointing, but how dissappointed can I get if I am watching Radiohead.
I hope that they play a three hour set, but I have become resigned to the fact that they just dont do that. So I will be happy with your typical 2 hour set, overjoyed if we get to two.five hours, and crying as if my imagined son just got drafted number one overall in the nfl if they play for three hours.

i dont want to come off as argumentative either. im not trying to be. and ya that is how it would work on tour. but roo is different. all of the openers play in the daytime anyways. everytime i have gone the lights seemed the same for all of the headliners. i am 99 percent sure that all of the lidhts are in place on friday and remain in place all the way through sunday. and they use them all not just some for certain acts. i could be wrong but that is how i remember it and it also seems to make the most sense.

man i know that when the lights fired up for dave last year they were physically pushing me backwards. it was amazing. i had some "enhancement" but it was still incredible
I don't know about the lights, but I can assure everyone that Radiohead, as the headliner at bonnaroo, will play from 8-12 pm. That's how bonnaroo works. All other musical acts stop for the main stage headliner.

i would have to disagree. dave didnt use his headline time up. in 04 it seemed really short to me. i would almost bet a nut on the fact that radiohead will not play 4 hours. i hope they do. but it dosent seem to be something they ever do

All that being said, nice work on the info Kampy.
Thanks...
you make a good point, but I'm pretty sure Andi Watson designed the previous light setup to be configurable to fit different size stages. the 5 curved finger trusses that are the centerpiece can be set up closer together or wider apart, and the pixelline wall can have the end sections removed to fit smaller venues...
but I'm thinking they might have something completely new, it's been over 2 years since coachella... the last time we saw their full stage setup. we'll know more in less than 2 weeks when they play Denmark!
btw, I hope I'm not coming off as a know-it-all when it comes to radioheads lighting. It's just that this is an area I've always been interested in since i saw U2's zoo tv tour, and lately I've been thinking about trying to get into this field. There have been a few rh shows where I've gotten there really early and up close in the pit and had a couple hours to sit there and stare at the stage setup and figure it all out. And Andi Watson is like, my hero. Much like Chris Kuroda is for Phish fans. Andi has been part of radiohead for 12 years. there's no way they'd play a gig without him and his lights. but i could be wrong.......

i must admit that even over youtube radioheads lgihting looks incredible. hopefully they will have it all there and all of the headliners will be using it. i heard last year that dave brought all of his lighting and wsp used it too i believe

Yep, hopefully it will be something new and incredible. And you definitely seem to know your bulbs. We will find out soon enough, like you said from the Denmark show.
