This will be my first time seeing BECK, but I have all his cd's. i really enjoy the old school favorites, but was magically taken by sea changes! I was really hoping for a flaming lips add. I love when their his backing band. How Fun???
On a second note, SO MANY ARTIST GET NO TALK ON THIS FORUM!! Jackie Greene is a one of the most amazing young artist I've ever seen. He open for Taj Mahal and stole the show. He has Dylanish Lyrics, but the voice of a legend and he can make the piano-guitar....hop!!! He;s young, and will be around for a long long time....Please someone come chekc him out..I' bet we get front row...because no one seems to know him!
i cant wait to see beck. i havent seen him yet. i hope he dosent do alot of that gameboy stuff and waste time saying its not working. i just wanna hear his music.
Saw Beck at Berkeley Greek Theatre a couple summers ago - great show opened by Black Keys. Got Radiohead tickets for Berkeley the weekend after Bonnaroo.

Beck is amazing, for sure... and you're right, that Vegoose set was crazy fun. For those of you who weren't there, their stage was decorated like a boy scout campsite, complete with trees, shrubs and plastic animals.
Beck is right behind radiohead on my priority list for roo.... hopefully they'll be back to back on saturday.....
Alright guys, I've never been much of a Beck fan, but I don't dislike him and am excited to see him.
Could somebody give me a list of albums to try out? Which is his most accessible album? A list of a few of his albums in a good order for me to check out would be super awesome .
I know there seems to be some debate over him "jumping the shark" or something along those lines, but any suggestions would be appreciated!
I like Mutations as a starting place. It's pretty mellow, but with some variety to the music. I know of several people who list Odelay as their favorite Beck album, so that might also be a good place to start. (I like it, but I've never given it as much time as I've given some of the others.)
Midnight Vultures is a really fun album, very upbeat.
Sea Change, on the other hand, is beautiful, but it can be kind of a downer. (I think I read somewhere that he wrote a lot of the songs right after a bad break-up.)
Guero is the newest one. I've only listened to it a couple of times, so it's hard to say where I would put it.
All of them are excellent, though. I guess the only thing I would say other than that is that I wouldn't start with stereopathic soulmanure. It's interesting, but it's a collection of "various lo-fi recordings." Worth listening to if you find that you like his other stuff, but not where I would start.
-He'll probably be playing alot of stuff of this, his latest. It's really good, I don't know who's talking about "jumping the shark".
-This is probably his most popular cd among the masses. CLASSIC.
-This isn't like the other 2. It's more folky acoustic like, but with that special Beck touch. Very underrated, and a definate favorite of mine.
This is a good place to start. I don't think he has a bad album. Sea Change, Midnight Vultures, and Mellow Gold are quality as well. But if you've never heard him you should start with the above.

Man I am so stoked to see Beck for the first time! I always spin him obsessively @ my desk at home while doing the bills -makes it so fun to drain bank account. (Odelay & Guero) Plus it's my birthday the night he's playing! Sheesh- I wanna put a big bow on him.

It'll be my first time to see Beck live as well, and I'm very excited. Matt Mahaffey (Self) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matt_Mahaffeyis a musician from Murfreesboro that was playing guitar for Beck on his last tour; I'm kinda curious if he'll be back this tour. Lately I've been enjoying the Guero remix, Guerolito.
^^^ Clap Hands is my favorite song off of Guerolito. It's the only place to find that song. I REALLY hope you guys get to see that live. When I saw him back in Nov., they played it and all of them were banging on various objects. Alot of them were sitting around a table, banging on glasses and dishes and whatnot. He puts on an amazing show, and I'm sure he'll bring the heat for Roo.
Beck has finished recording his next studio album and will release it this fall via Interscope. While there is no official street date for the as-yet-untitled effort, it comes only a year-and-a-half after his last full-length set, "Guero," hit stores.
According to Beck's Web site, the new album was produced by Nigel Godrich, who has been behind the boards for such prior releases as 1998's "Mutations" and 2002's "Sea Change."
Beck will be previewing new material this month during a 10-date North American tour, which also visits Tennessee's Bonnaroo festival. In August, he will hit the European festival circuit and open two dates for Radiohead in Edinburgh and Dublin.
"Guero" gave Beck the highest chart position in his career when it opened at No. 2 on The Billboard 200. It has sold 800,000 copies in United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

I haven't seen Beck since, well, Lollapalooza '95 so definately stoked here.
Has anyone seen him recently? What has he been playing?
I'm hoping he sticks to his more funky stuff and stays away from a lot of the sea change'ish tracks.
I saw him May 29, short set. Beck played 3 new songs, covered "do you realize," a ton of guero, classics from odelay, clap hands, maybe a song or two off mutations, 1 or 2 sea change, and only 1 midnite vultures (mixed bizzzness). but yeeahh JMJ is back. leatherman baby.
