Whether it's your first Bonnaroo or you’re a music festival veteran, we welcome you to Inforoo.
Here you'll find info about artists, rumors, camping tips, and the infamous Roo Clues. Have a look around then create an account and join in the fun. See you at Bonnaroo!!
Late Friday afternoon looks brutal to me. Oysterhead, Death Cab, and Robert Randolph. I also was hoping to catch Nickel Creek for a little bluegrass, but they're at the same time.
I'm planning on catching Randolph. Do you think his crowd might be relatively light due to Oysterhead?
I'm catching RR too instead of Oysterhead. I know everyone is pumped about Oysterhead playing, but their album doesn't do that much for me and Robert Randolph is incredible. I'll either try and catch the end of Oysterhead or I may head over to American Minor....I've been meaning to check them out and what better place than Bonnaroo.
For me it's either Ben Folds vs. Seu Jorge, Beck vs. Blues Traveler, or Robert Randolph vs. Oysterhead.
Here's how it broke down.
1. Ben Folds, I really really wanted to see Seu Jorge in hopes of hearing some of his Life Aquatic David Bowie renditions, but this is the first chance I've had to see Ben Folds and I've been a big fan of his for years.
2. Beck, this really wasn't that hard. Blues Traveler was only in my would like to see if there were the only ones playing category.
3. Oysterhead, this was maybe the hardest choice. Oysterhead only wins this one, becuase I'm unlikely to ever see that band again.
It's definitely Friday late night for me, but I've known it was coming for so long I've gotten used to it.
My personal order of priority for the late night is:
1. Lyrics Born 2. MMJ 3. Umphrey's/Bisco collab 4. Blackalicious 5. Umphrey's .... then Disco Biscuits and Common
I'm planning on being on the front rail at midnight for LB to start off the hip-hop tent (I'm assuming he's first but not positive) and watching his whole set or about 45 minutes depending on how its going. If he's playing with a band (which I would guess is likely) I'll be a bit dissappointed and might not stay as long (I prefer the LB, Joyo and D-Sharp setup to the full band). I'll probably peek at the Umphrey's tent at that point and then watch the last half of MMJ. I have yet to be impressed my Gift of Gab (Blackalicious MC, my favorite studio MC) live, but I would like to give him another shot and check out Xcel. I'm sure the Disco Biscuits and hopefully some Umph/Bisco combo will be going all night so I'll save that for last.
I'm afraid I might miss Blackalicious and Umphrey's with this plan but we'll see what I can manage. Two of the best openers I've ever seen were MMJ's One Big Holiday at Roo '04 and Lyrics Born's Bad Dreams at a Chicago show, so its really tough to choose which to start at. Without knowing what the Superjam is, I'd rather see any of these three tents than stuff going on Saturday late night, but ultimately I'm really looking forward to that too.
I'm having a tough time deciding what to do Friday late night as well. I may end up over at the Preservation Hall Jazz tent for the majority of the night since I can't make up my mind about MMJ/UmphBisco/Hip-Hop Extravaganza.

Friday latenight was the easiest choice for me... My biggest conflict would be Dr John vs. Superjam, i'll probably get sucked into Superjam and not want to drift around cuz anything could happen...
Humanity has advanced, when it has advanced, not because it has been sober, responsible, and cautious, but because it has been playful, rebellious, and immature.
I may be a bit odd - I didn't find the pre-headliner shows too hard.. my most difficult choice is the first show of Saturday:
The Magic Numbers/Grace Potter & The Nocturnals/Dungen
I really enjoy listening to all these groups immensely, and none of them ever make it out to the Milwaukee area, so I'm quite perplexed... I was thinking about splitting Grace Potter and Dungen, but the Magic Numbers are just too infectious to ignore (in a good way.) Does anyone have an opinion as to who puts on the best live show of the three?
Honestly, You'd probably be picking the worse two of the group live. Don't get me wrong. I love Elvis and CYHSY, but in my opinion, both leave much to be desired live. CYHSY are fun and young. They aren't great live yet. And Elvis...well, part of the strength of his recordings is how he always hits that peak, that part of the song you love, and then never returns to it. Not so live. In theory, an 8 minute live version of "Pump It Up" might sound fun, but in practice, it gets old about the 10th time he repeats the chorus. And a lot of the instrumentation he uses with the Imposters sounds more than dated....it sounds downright cheesy.
Both shows will probably be fun. You will probably come away thinking how glad you are that you chose them. But that's only because you don't know what you're missing with the other guys. Frisell and Guy are two of the more well respected guitarists coming to Roo this year, and Rusted Root shows have a reputation for being high energy. On top of that, both the Costello and CYHSY sets will be overun with people. Personally, I'm seeing Buddy Guy. If I wasn't seeing him, I'd see Frisell.

I am headed to Hot Buttered Rum then Umph/Disco. I have no desire to see MMJ.
