Okay...maybe Its all in my head as a rabid and first-time-seeing Beck fan...but did it seem like Beck just didnt care to be there at all? I mean he showed NO energy what so ever, and the fans knew it...
I mean they played Loser without him even on stage.... can someone enlighten me on this cause I am really looking for some explanation
I wasn't impressed at the Beck show...I thought it was really weird they played loser without the band....but I am a little bias because I was at the front of the stage trying to work my way out of the insane crowd that pushed their way up front for the next two acts. I thought that he was suppose to be a really energetic dancing fool onstage, he didn't really do anything.

I saw Beck in September and thought the same, but you can tell not only by that show but by each recent CD that he's not the same person (he's old). He probably had some pretty insane shows back in the day, but I was wholly entertained by the puppet show/video and the acoustic set with his banter. The only problem, I thought, was the somewhat flat encore. It seemed like something was wrong with the bass distortion pedal during E-Pro.
As for Loser, it's essentially what "Creep" is to Radiohead--everyone knows it, everyone loves it, and Beck is tired of it. When I saw him before he unexcitedly played a verse from it and stopped. I thought it was kind of a funny replacement when the puppets played it instead, even though I'd love to see him play it.
Everytime I've ever seen Beck perform......on television....he danced and went pretty crazy. I didn't see much of that at the Beck show at Bonnaroo. Maybe he is getting old. Thom Yorke is pretty old....and he was freaking out dancing like a mad man.
I'd never heard Beck live before, but I thought it was an incredible show! Even though he wasn't very ANIMATED, that doesn't mean that he didn't project an energy to the crowd. He just did it differently, that's all. I was VERY impressed.
Second favorite show of the weekend, topped only by TOM PETTY!!! Love you, Stevie Nicks!!

This was probbly the tenth time I've seen Beck live and he has always put on an awesome show... IMO, Saturday evening's Bonnaroo performance was no exception!

it was hot as hell out, I don't blame him for not getting super nutty. I thought it was great. I wasn't close enough to really say what I thought of his energy,
I enjoyed the performance and the puppet video but I thought the set was diappointingly short (and abrupt, did he even say anything when he walked off?)... my biggest complaint would be that he didn't do the Prince voice during Debra.
/huge Beck fan
/may not have a high enough Thetan level to understand Beck's ways...
shit it was as hot or hotter for ben folds and he rocked the fuck out. im glad i caught mmw. they were awesome and was a real high energy show. i wanted to see beck. but form ewhta i can tell a beck show is a beck show is a beck show. i can see that anytime. dj logic and g love with mmw dosent happen everyday
The energy level did seem a little toned down from other times I've seen him......BUT, the puppet video and the friggin bear suit were awesome. Puppets=Genius ;D
hell ya he was! i was really happy when he came out with mmw. we were like 20 feet away for the wood bros show. iwhat a way to satrt the weekend. that crowd was fired up. i got some good pics at wood bros. ill get them up soon
Beck comes in two flavors: party Beck and troubadour Beck. Party Beck was last tour. This tour he's troubadour Beck again.
I don't have many complaints about his set. I don't get the feeling he was out to play the best show of his life like some acts I saw. I think he was just out to have a fun aside from the tour he's currently on, do something different than other people and on that level, I think he succeeded. Personally, I wish he did less off of Sea Change and Guero and more off of Mutations, but that's just me being selfish. Good show. Nice opening act for Radiohead. Probably could have gone to a higher quality performance somewhere else at the same time, but then I wouldn't have gotten anywhere near as close as I got for Radiohead.

Beck's stance didn't bother me because he had that other guy doing the psycho dancing, and he did a great job of it. I thought the song choice was too hit-heavy, but the way he presented everything was pretty sweet - the puppets (which I didn't initially realize were live on stage), the meal, the dancer, the video during set break, it was all really cool.
I think the best explanation for the lack of dancing is not Beck's age, but the puppet. Can you imagine what it would feel like for him to be rocking out on the same stage where that little puppet of him is dancing? If you think about it, this might shed some psychological light on Beck's stillness.
I saw Beck at Vegoose and at roo this year. Ya, we didn't stick around for the length of his set this time. I think Beck's stuff just doesn't translate that well live. :/

saw beck at vegoose and he was a madman. seen him twice this tour and it hasn't been nearly as good. who knows what's up. my biggest complaint... we saw like 8 sea changes songs and 2 midnite vultures song (one played solo acoustic so it doesn't really count). owell, i still enjoyed but he didn't deliver like most everyone else.
I've seen Beck multiple times, from the days before Mellow Gold was released to the Midnight Vultures tour and I am agreeing with you dude, Beck blew the whale penis at Bonnaroo.
I really hate saying that too, but I wish I'd gone to Cypress Hill. We just kept waiting for him to get into the show, and he never did = (

while the music might have not been great, i loved beck's set. it was one of the most entertaining one's i saw all weekend. the puppets, dinner break, video, encore with the bears, and the giant boom boxes were all hilarious
and for those saying he wasn't into it, did you not see the encore? he was running all over the stage MCing in that bear suit. i loved it
