One thing that I saw that made me smile was on Sunday. I started by watching Brothers Past and Refugee All-Stars and the crowd was mainly hippie/marley heads. Then came Matisyahu and I saw a lot more of a more preppy crowd. Then I walked over to Sonic Youth where everyone was donning the buddy holly glasses. I just thought it was so cool that all these crowds had something to listen to all weekend. I didn't see any altercations and I swear I think I met more friendly people this year.

with 2 exceptions, the crowds were very friendly this year.
the two exceptions are radiohead and brighteyes. i understand if eitheir one are your favorite band, but there is no need to push and shove, and stand right on top of people just to get 5-10 ft. closer to the stage. not everybody can get front row for every show

Yea, I was definitely one of theose people who wantin to sit and chill till the show started and my friend did point out that he thought more people this year were a lil rude about tryin to get to the front and standin in front of people. Man, those Sonic Youth fans are hardcore....I got a lotta real dirty looks leaving their set early...people just kinda like...you dumbass lol. I thought that was cool though, I woulda shook my head at anyone leaving Radiohead too lol. Id say it was a lot of peoples first fest and maybe they'll learn a lil festival crowd etiquette before next year although I didnt think it was horrible this year. I went to the first Summer Sanitarium Tour......now thats bad crowd ettiquette, saw a guy get knocked out by a steel toed boot someone was throwing in the crowd, funny at first but then i was like shit, coulda been me lol.
i just assumed all the crazy radiohead fans were gonna be trying to get good seats so i just planned on chillin near the back, i think it was a good plan.
I met more good folks this year than my past two years, didn't see quite as many creepy people roaming the crowds, and I didn't come across one serious problem (fight, violent freakout, etc.) which I can't say for years past. I know this is just a sample opinion and others had their issues, but for me, this year was pretty flippin great.

Yea man, the people seemed really cool this year. I met a guy and girl before Radiohead and talked TOOL for like 30 minutes....then she goes....so whats ur alls names cand where u from cause we've been talkin for nearly an hour about TOOL. It was cool just to be able to have cool coverstaions with people id never normally get to meet. Our neighbors this year were way cool too. One lived like an hour from us in Knoxville and the others like 3 hours away in Bowling Green....so it felt pretty homey in our camp. I met a real cool dude and his g/f before Refugee All-stars, he was rolling his own cigs which I thought was funny when 79,999 other people where rollin the wacky tobacy. THe soccer game USA vs. Italy was hype. THat crowd was awsome, now if the US didnt suck it woulda been etter.

I'd have to agree with you there, every single person I met this year was so cool ;D everyone was soooo super nice and I really didn't see anything tooo tooo shady or out of the ordinary! I guess I just got lucky..
I saw a guy get grabbed by security. Then he heroicly broke free and ran his ass off. Shakedown was the shadiest of all places, but I guess that's to be expected.
i also saw a guy get arrested after stealing a car and trying to drive away. on friday. in the car camping section by pod 3. they took this guy *down*.
Well, no matter what crowd I was in someone was smokin' something at least 5 feet from me at all times. Honestly the only time I talked to just random people was when I was waiting in line at the Comedy Tent. Every other time I just hated every other person in the crowd because 1) they were in my way 2) they were probably smoking and/or on something and might not remember the concert like sober me would if they just stop bobbing around even when there's no music 3) I'm short and I always get stuck with a 7ft man right in front of me who just has to have his hands behind his head with his elbows out the entire concert and 4) there are WAY to many of them out there! Would anyone else besides me be willing to pay $30+ more just to have 10,000 less people attend? Just seems like I'd have a little more legroom camping, waiting in line, standing at a show, waiting for ice, waiting for the johns, walking on a path, getting into centeroo... if just 10,000 people weren't at the fest. But, maybe I'm just not much of a people person. I do however talk to almost anyone at some of the local festivals I go to... bonnaroo just seems way too impersonal. (which is why the Sonic Stage and Troo Music lounge quickly became my favorite stages...)
well if you go in all high and mighty im too good to talk to someone smoking and having a good time with my sober self then thats the time you will have. and if the music keeps playing in my head even after it stops and i feel the need to enjoy the sounds within my head i dont see how t should bother you. god forbid you enjoy the show. ive been smoking and on somethings everynight at roo and im full of 100's of the greatest memories anyone could ever have. too bad i wasnt sober so i could have the awesome time you did. it sounds like roo just aint for you... no room for hate at roo. and very little room for sobriety.

those are some of the most trite complaints about crowds I've ever heard... you're at a festival..the festival... there are tons of people there.. deal with it.. you don't like someone smoking "something" next to you? move else where. are they still smoking? go elsewhere. still smoking, you say? well then, you must have forgot where you were... YOU'RE AT ROO! that's what most people do there! if you can't handle people on drugs or people smoking around you, then Roo, or should I say most summer festies, are not for you.
I personally met some of the greatest, friendliest people this year than almost any other festival I've been to, and that's saying alot.
I actually enjoyed all the crowds; even took pictures of some. There's just something about walking down the street, looking up and seeing thousands of people on the same plane as you. It's a community, and I embrace it!
The only thing I didn't really like was the Radiohead stampede. I'm a Radiohead fanatic, insane really, but that sh*t was just ridiculous.

I thought Shakedown was pretty damn tame this year compared to the the past, the crowd was much more diverse and there didnt seem to be as many freaks roaming around... It was definately a changed scene at Roo' this summer... I will say that i thought the vibe was lacking a bit...

I enjoyed the crowd. it seems that with 80,000 plus people you're bound to meet a shady fellow or two. for the most part the rif raf were in there tents by the late shows and the vibe was great at night. I talked to everyone i met whether or not they wanted to. the radiohead crowd was a bit too aggressive for my tastes, but at 6 foot 5 i had no problems with room cuz no one ever wanted to stand behind me.

I definitely felt a vibe of hate towards the glass dealers and rightfully so. Those guys were taxing this year I thought. I heard way more, "thats too much" this year. Im just babbling and trying to BS to get another post on the notch.
for some reason i didnt even check the glass this year. ive got so many pieces that i only want to get really nice ones now and i didnt have the loot for a nice one. i pretty much knew i was spending all of my money on edible/smokable fun so i didnt even risk the temptation.
now, I have nothing against people smoking anything. In fact my girlfriend smoked a little while we were in some of the nicer crowds. I just can't stand people blowing it in my face. It's not terrible, it's just rude. This IS an all ages fest, so you shouldn't just be smoking around anyone, I think. The crowds weren't terrible either, but at almost every show where I had a moderately good spot, some 6-foot drunk asshole would shove his way into the 5 inches of empty space directly in front of me, and then somehow try to dance in that 5 inches of space and get pissed off when I was in HIS way. This happened at almost every show I went to. Some shows (like Oysterhead), I just gave up even trying to see the stage because every minute there was a chain of 8 people holding hands trying to work through a path that wasn't there. Some people just need to accept the fact that they can't be at the front of the stage! The Radiohead crowd was also agressive, I agree. I swear there was a chain of 15 people holding hands trying to get to the front of the stage, and each one shoved right into me as they passed by. I eventually just cut them off and said "no, that's the end" and broke their chain. Also, did anyone see the giant Cheetos guy some assholes had at Radiohead? I'm so glad I didn't get stuck behind them. the thing was like 7 feet tall, and they for some reason kept lifting it into the air, blocking any possible view of the show that anyone behind them had. I'm sure there would have been plenty of people who would have loved to have that spot in the audience that the cheeto guy took up. Plus the group kept yelling during the show. It's just rude. Sorry, I know this is a huge festival of people who do a lot of illegal substances and can't tell if they're being considerate or not, but I still have a right to complain about the type of asshole who sprays me with a water-gun at night when I'm freezing anyways.....etc...

hahahaha... You havent been to very many fests have you?? You'll get used to it...
I did NOT enjoy the crowds at Ben Folds. People were really aggressive, and it was impossible to do anything but sway back and forth trying to avoid being knocked over. We were in the very back for about 3 songs, and it was still really crappy back there, so we left. I'm a huge fan, and luckily I got to see him on my birthday 2 years ago, otherwise I would've been severely jaded.

The Clearchannel/Fox-sponsored gated imaginary seat festival may be in the works, but when 90,000 people are on 700 acres with 90 bands plating nearly around the clock, a little balls cupped by some understanding of the situation could help...... as I blow smoke your way to blind you from me snatching your stoner girlfriend

Ben Folds has been my favorite artist for a long time now, but I wasn't crazy about his show either. The crowd was pretty aggressive and I think I was just in a tired/cranky mood. I was also disappointed because I just saw him a few months ago and the set he played was very similar. It's funny how he was the original draw of Bonnaroo for me but I ended up enjoying myself so much more during other sets.

I love the people at roo, I will rarely open my mouth and talk to a stranger at a show or anything (not being rude, I just dont talk much) but at bonnaroo it's fun to talk to people. I loved waiting for my girl to use the bathroom and talking to all the people hanging around. I didn't see as many people smoking "something" this year. I would like to see everyone!
I've been to smaller festivals and offered more drugs at a younger age. I've been going to music festivals (mostly around michigan) since I was really young because my dad is in a band. And I agree, the Ben Folds audience was probably one of the worst. I had to get all the way back near the bobble-heads because there was no room to get into the audience. Some friends and I tried and basically got shoved into the area behind the soundboard that can't see the stage... so we moved way back. I still listened to the show, but couldn't see the stage at all really. It was a very nice sounding set. I didn't like that stage in general though, I never once got any closer than the tree-line for any of the shows I saw there. Did anyone notice that certain tents just seemed to be in a better situation than others in general? The tent I visited most often was That tent, and The Other tent wasn't bad either. Of course getting a spot at the What stage for any of the later acts was nearly impossible, but I actually got pretty close for Phil and the audience was very spread out during moe. It was nice. Next year I am definately checking out the artists playing the Troo music lounge ahead of time, because one of my favorite shows was Corn Mo at that small tent. Does anyone know of any festival with just like 20 small tents running constantly with semi-unknown acts? I think I'd like a fest like that instead of one full of headliners... (and this one had a great lot of them!)

I stumbled upon Liquidrone in the Preservation Hall Tent Friday night at the start of Petty and that shit was crazy. Granted I was in a stoned stupor, but they were good enough I bought a $5 beer and didnt mind missing Petty.
