a Talking Heads reunion at Bonnaroo would make my entire year... I don't know if I could handle it, to tell you the truth.. I think I'd have heart failure or something... that would be the one and only time that I'd be willling to scrap the rest of the music and squat for the headliner all day long.
2 out of: Phil Lesh/The Dead, WSP, DMB, Trey/Phish, Allmans
1 out of: CSNY/Young, Paul Simon, RHCP, The Boss, Cream, Pearl Jam
You got it about right. Rather than try to make the crazy pick for next year, it seems that the most obvious picks are:
WSP Dave Pearl Jam
And it just makes sense - nothing bold and unpredictable, just what you might expect.
Oh, and Allmans will be there, unfortunately they have never been, and will be unrightfully kept out of, a headlining gig. I don't get it, but it happens every other year.

Maybe Tool headlining will never happen, but they certainly have a big enough following to fill that place as a headliner. Tool are pretty huge worldwide. It really is hard to come up with bands big enough to fill a headliner spot at Bonnaroo.
i really disagree with you there. i'm sure there more than 20 bands every year that they could bring into headline, and none of them would have any problem filling in the headliner spot. the thing is that they bring some of the BIGGEST headliners out of any festival
Tool and Keller/SCI? are you kidding me? a headliner has to be one of the BIGGEST bands that are at 'roo. this past year, Radiohead & Tom Petty were easily the two biggest names there. if Tool or SCI headlined, there would have to be alot of bands missing next year to make them the biggest names.
Headliners for next year:
2 out of: Phil Lesh/The Dead, WSP, DMB, Trey/Phish, Allmans
1 out of: CSNY/Young, Paul Simon, RHCP, The Boss, Cream, Pearl Jam
agreed.
the Dead ALWAYS make a pressence at Roo (not always headlining though; Ratdog & Bob Wier in 05), and I've heard the Dead will be touring next summer so that's pretty much a definite (and the Dead WILL headline if they're there). WSP, DMB, or Trey will also be one because that just makes sence, but I don't see DMB doing another festival; maybe Dave & Friends but I'd rather see DMB because they jam out. That leaves 1 spot.
My vote goes to a few... CSNY would be GREAT, but I don't see them doing something like Bonnaroo. Same with Clapton/CREAM, who I'd love to see. Incubus would be awesome (they put on a f.uckin great live show), but I'd rather see Pearl Jam.

I think Gilmours solo stuff is no good...The Flaming Lips would be a good choice, I've never seen them but hear they put on a good show.
The lips would be awesome but their live show just isn't versatile enough to play a 2 and 1/2 to 3 and 1/2 bonnaroo headlining slot. they really put a lot into synchronizing the audio/visual which normally ends up in very similar, shorter sets.
I deffinitly think Tools head on. Even if it doesnt happen they've got the pull to fill the role for sure. I've always thought of them as the "Radiohead" of the more avant gard metal scene, verses the whole indie-outthere, whatever you wanna call it scene Radioheads king of. They both hold very paralell roles in the communities they dominate, and even tho the demographic Tool cators towards isnt historicall "roo friendly" that doesnt mean superfly isnt gonna look to draw them. Keep in mind folks, Superfly has made it very clear that the necessity of roo being a jamband festival is out the window, theyre in it for the long run, and seem to feel that consistantly switching thigns up and constantly moving in another directions is the way to do it.
I see it being that way too.. BUT it's too simialar to 05 and Superfly is trying to change things up every year. we'll just all have to wait until january

It's nice to know I'm not the only one who thinks this

Tool would certainly mark the heaviest sound ever at roo. I think that's the biggest hurdle in my mind. Their sound is waaaay outside the roo norm. That's not to say I wouldn't love to see them but Dungen and Sonic Youth are probably the hardest sounds we've had there yet and Tool is much heavier in sound.

I just Les down here in Ft Lauderdale last Friday night. Awesome show, however, I haven't seen a skinhead mosh pit like that in a long time. Some pretty bad vibes there.
I think someone in this thread made the point that this year's headliners can be split into three categories: The classic rocker (Petty), the hipster/modern rock band (Radiohead), and the jam-band (Phil Lesh). Doing it this way seems like a good compromise, draws the largest number of people, and certainly made for a great Roo. So, I bet they'll do that again next year, with the following possibilities:
Classic rock: Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Neil Young Hipster/Modern Rock: Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, R.E.M., Pixies, White Stripes, Tool Jam Band: DMB, Panic, Dead, Trey in some form
The other question is who will be on tour in 2007? Is Pearl Jam still going to be touring then? What about Tool?
And finally, I know its an extreme longshot, but The Who just announced their first American tour dates for their new tour. It'd be quite a coup for Superfly to get them as a headliner.

I recently saw a NIN show, and loved it, so im all for some heavier headliners at roo. What about the white stripes though, im kinda suprised no ones mentioned them. I dont think rhcp will headline because of lollapalooza. How bout some tenacious d, thatd be pretty sweet, but not long enough, and not happenin. Talking heads would definatly be sweet. I think the gorillaz would be another awesome headliner, never tour, but i dont know if theyr popular enough. After this year the door has just opened for what kind of band can headline. I'm having troubles trying to limit it but for a guess now il go with:
The whole problem with Tool is thier RABID fanbase. The Tool Army wouldn't fit too well at Roo, methinks. Seems like oil and water to me. Plus I think they'll be done touring by next summer anyhow, after this supposed fall/winter arena tour.

Gorillaz is a good choice for a 2nd stage/tent I hadn't even thought about them I don't see them headlining though.

Agreed. I would love to see them there, but I don't think they would be a good headliner.
As for David Bowie - he puts on a great show and I think would be a great headliner. I saw him and NIN a LONG time ago and NIN would also be great to see but not sure about the vibe there.....
