i have seen dave 21 times, i mostly try to get only pavilion to avoid the majority of drunk assholes and sluts, don't ever go lawn at a dave concert, unless you are the asshole or slut who doesn't give a fuck, then don't even bother coming cause your giving daveheads a bad name and you're killing the scene and vibe, thats why you go see jimmy buffett, bon jovi, toby keith, and kenny chesney, you're not there for the music anyways, all 4 of those artists have shit for music, go there, stay away from dave shows, assholes and sluts!
Daveheads?! Dude, let's reserve that heads suffix for fans of real bands(i.e. Dead, Phish)...Not sure how Dave got included in that company...
Second, the scene has been ruined for years. You were just too drunk to notice at the shows.
well hopefully dave will hadline and you can stay home. i think id rather party with dave fans like your hating on then whatever the hell kinda fan you are.

Unfortunately for me, that may be a possibility. I would hate to think of missing a Roo, and in the past, other bands have been good enough for me to forget about Dave. But, this year, if he headlines I would need something special.... Way to go Dudewheresmyroo, jinx Bonnaroo and basically request the worst Roo ever.

well if great music is enough to keep you away from roo then its probably not a good place for you to consider going in the first palce.

Everybody calm down. dudewheresmyroo??? I'm sorry but most people in here are right. DMB for the most part has a bunch of assh*le fans who only go to get drunk and "be cool". The music has progressively become worse over the years. I used to love this band. I still do like them, but I in no way want to see them headline Bonnaroo.
If I was garaunteed that they would do something special, and not just put on another one of the 60 shows a year they play, I would be all for it. Dave and crew though have unfortunately lost their spark. Their shows are routine now. Don't believe me, here's a list:
-Dave will several times walk up to the microphone and mutter/grumble gibberish into the microphone, and "Dave fans" will eat it up and scream and holler. Would it be that much harder to really talk to the crowd?
-Dave will say "thank y'all very much!" several times a show.
-Dave will shuffle his feet about, knowing that the crowd will go crazy regardless. Now I like his dancing, but most fans cheer more for this than any other thing at a concert, and it gets very annoying.
-Very similar situation with Boyd. He used to be able to play in tune, and play some nice solos. Now he just flails (sp?) around on stage, and sends his violin way out of tune, because he knows the crowd is going to go nuts.
-Most DMB fans (not including the ones who really do love the band) will and do scream at the top of their lungs at the stupidest sh#t. Leroi can play a 10 minute solo, and the crowd will be talking on their cell phones, to each other, or just ruining the experience for those who care, because they are bored. As soon as Dave shuffles his feet though, they explode in applause.
DMB has really sh#tty fans, and it isn't their fault entirely, but they could stop doing gimicky sh#t just to appease these fans, and they still would have a good fan base.
Last time I saw them was Bonnaroo '05, and it was a good show, but nothing spectacular. Like I said in a previous post, they had the oppurtunity to pull off a career defining show. Instead they phoned it in. You want an example of kicking ass, and taking names, see Panic's shows that year at Bonnaroo.
The last show I saw before that was in '03. I was at the front of the lawn with a few friends. The band was in the middle of Lover Lay Down, and Leroi was playing a beautiful solo. No one around me was paying attention, so much in fact that the kid behind me started singing. His friend told him to be quiet, and he replied, "but it is such a good song, and I bet you no one here even knows it." So he quiets down for a second, and then proceeds to start singing again. So I turn around:
Me-Can you please stop? Him-Huh, Stop what? Me-Stop singing Him-I wasn't singing. Me-Yes you were. Some song about fireworks, that no one knows. Just please stop.
So I turn back around, and I hear him start complaining to his friend. So I turned back around to him, and said "Look you wanna sing fine, but right now I'm paying like $50 to see them on stage (I pointed to the stage). When I pay $50 to see you, you can sing whatever you want, right now shut up."
The worst part of the whole thing is, the kid WAS NOT even drunk. Just another assh*le fan.
Now I know not all DMB fans are assholes, but you even have to admit, most are. That all being said, I will see Dave again, but I should not have to pay the extra money to sit pavillion to avoid the assholes (and that's not even a garauntee to avoid assholes). I have seen the band 16 times, and they were by far my favorite once apon a time, but the whole scene and the band are sh#t right now.
so everyone should quietly sit and drink apple juice. and boo dave when he talks. its a party. if you dont like screaming, drinking, a singing i dont know what your doing at a concert. but to each their own. seems like most of the people that bitch about dave are the ones with the issues of "being cool"

^^^^^^ greecian, I agree with you; I've seen them 30+ times, and tire of them getting progressively worse.... Especially the mailing it in at concerts; like at Roo 05 and the show was just boring...In closing, I do hope, a little that they are there; because it will make or break one of my buddies Roos'....You know the people I'm talking about...

you guys have seen him 20 and 30 times. and you hate on him. of course somethings gonna get stale. a rollercoaster is fun the first 3 or 4 times. by the 30th time its gotten pretty boring. but its all good. nice thing is that last year they had small acts playing during headliners. i truly did wanna see tishamingo but im glad i went to radiohead because it was one of the best shows ive seen. so youll have options if crappy old dave is ruining bonnaroo for you. and for the rest of us there will be more room to see dave, trey , warren, robert and whoever the hell else he brings out for incredible music.
you say you have been to 30 shows but you dont like his music because of his fans. that just seems beyond stupid to me. those fans arent even at roo. seems like youd be excited to see some one youve seen dozens of times without that normal element that you hate so much. and with all the amazing guests. does a dave called in performance always contain so many great musicians? if so ill have to give him my number.
oh well im done talking about it. you guys go live in your too cool for dave bubble where no one drinks and cheers. sounds like a great place.

No, no, no! People party at Bonnaroo too, but they do not ruin other people's experiences. DMB assbags do. As far as it being a party, this is true. Problem is, people come to party, not listen to the DMB.
And please, show me where any of my points were not true, and I will have a discussion with you. I told it like it is, and you come back at me with a garbage post like that.
Also, if you actually read my post, you would see that I said the kid was singing during Leroi's solo in Lover Lay Down. Singing the words to another song! I'm sorry but this is not what I pay money to hear.
You want a party throw one. You want to go to a concert, go, but please don't tell me the way DMB fans (not all) behave should be considered acceptable.
I still like the band. And, I am still hoping that they can somehow put out another great record, I just don't think it is going to happen.

It's obvious that you've had some fun at a show or two. And you've probably really expanded your mind and had some real enlightening moments at Dave shows. lol But by your rationale, the majority of people seem to recognize that whole Dave thing was hung out to dry long ago....
most people have just tired of having the same conversation with the same type of people. thats where i am at with it too. so have at ti.. if you do come to roo and dave is there do everyone a favor and keep your holier then thou attitude at home.

Things that, contrary to popular belief, are not required at or to enjoy a concert:
1. dancing 2. yelling 3. having conversations with friends 4. pushing to the front of a crowd 5. drugs 6. drinking 7. repeating steps 5 and/or 6 with any of the above
I'm not trying to dump on anyone, and neither am I condemming any of these (although some are more suspect than others). However I don't like the notion that a concert cannot be enjoyed just by itself. There have been many concerts in whcih I've have a wonderful time without taking any of these steps. They really are not necessary to enjoy good music.

Then I pity you. Again, they're fine and can be a lot of fun, but it's silly to think that every concert can be even better if you add them. When I go to a sit-down jazz club, am I supposed to order ten beers, take my shirt off and do the wookie wiggle? No, the music speaks to me just fine as I sit in my chair and listen.
i didnt include beer in my musts. just dancing and cheering. we are talking about dave. and bonnaroo. not a sit down jazz club. if your not danicing and cheering then your just a boring and likely selfconscious person. and i pity you.

All acceptable, if you are not being a c#ck about it.
1-Dance all you want, just don't fly around smashing into to people, and not even have the decency to say sorry.
3-Talk/whisper with your friends all you want. Just please not too loudly. Just because the music is loud, doesn't mean you need to yell over it, when you could just closer to your friend and still be heard.

I think Steveternal was just trying to say that, contrary to the consistant actions DMB fans, there is more than one way to have a good time. I can't agree with Greecian more. Do your thing. Enjoy whatever. But don't think that every show follows the Dave Matthews-pre-requisite-formula of uninformed kids acting obnoxious.
